A First Vision

On Sunday, November 10th, 2024, I never thought that what was going to happen to me was even possible. That until then, my life was all a lie.

It was a cold, and rainy day, like most of the time there in Seattle. I was walking down the damaged street to go to my childhood best friend's house: Alice Rupert; known all over the country for her talent in bow & arrow shooting; she never missed, and that saved my life once, when at her practice, a man stole my bag, she came running, bow to her hand, and shot. He's alright now but he obviously won't steal anymore. Alice's parents took me in when my parents died; gave me a home, fed me, took me out to the park.... They did everything for me.

The cold breeze brushed down my face as I thought that one month later, on my 16th birthday, it would be the tenth anniversary of my parents death. I always wondered what my life would of been if they were still here. Would I be the same?

After ten minutes walking, I knocked on Alice's door. Compared to the other houses near, it looked huge, and rich. The door opened almost immediately, leaving in front of me my best friend rushing to take me in her arms whispering:

"God, Cara where were you?! It's almost dark and you know very well I hate when you'r alone. Come on in."

I stepped inside. The smell of cookies pleased my nose. Ana, Alice's mother, always knew how to greet me. She was the kindest person I knew. Ana was beautiful for her age: perfect skin, lightly tanned; at the opposite of Alice, she had dark brown hair cut short, hazel eyes, and always a kind smirk glued to her lips.

"Well look who finally arrived; hello darling!" she said as she walked in the room.

"Hey Ana," I replied, "You know you don't have to cook each and every time I come here, and that is four times a week; give yourself a break, you deserve it."

"Oh believe me I know, but I like doing this for you don't worry for me. I'm more than happy with you coming over here each week!"

I chuckled,

"If you say so."

We all went to the kitchen where Ana gave us some cookies and milk, and we sat down at the fancy table with a deck of cards. After a few moments, Alice looked at me and asked:

"So, about your B-Day... Can we do a party this year? It's been for forever since you even went to a party and 16th birthdays are really important. Please...?"

I sighted.

"You know how badly I hate my birthday don't you? Well, fine, but the smallest possible; my social skills are not that great," I answered.

She laughed,

"Yea okay perfect!"

I looked at her with big eyes.

"No seriously I get it: the smallest possible."

At the end of the night, I was feeling a little under the weather, so I insisted on going back home. Alice landed me her car so I wouldn't be alone in the streets at that time of the day. Driving back home, I started to feel a little dizzy; I needed to hurry up a little. I felt my eyelids wanting to close slowly. "Just one second" I thought. As soon as I closed my eyes, there was a flash, I couldn't see, and then I saw in front of me a piece of my memory that was the most painful: The car, my parents, the accident.

I opened my eyes as wide as possible and lost control of the car. It was still rolling on itself when I blacked out.
