6 Epilogue

A few weeks later, when the house lay shrouded in slumber, Lord Edward reclined in his bed while in the depths of his basement, a blinding light materialized in the musty darkness. Flickering in a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors—purple, yellow, green—and finally settling on a deep, ominous blue, the circular portal calmed after unleashing a chaotic dance of fractured beams. Emerging from the portal stepped a man clad in a long leather coat patched with darkened material that concealed old tears in the fabric, a tattered white shirt, and an elegant paisley waistcoat, showcasing the chain of a fob watch nestled in a small jetted pocket. His thick brown hair billowed in the turbulent air stirred by the portal's force. In the dim glow emanating from the mystical gateway, he surveyed the machine he had been relentlessly pursuing for weeks. Raising his hand, he closed the portal with a controlled motion, rotating his wrist slowly, all the while keeping his unwavering gaze fixed upon the contraption. It shrank and vanished, leaving him alone in his enemy's basement. Before him, two glass tanks housed the preserved bodies of two young girls, suspended in a thick liquid, their dresses swaying forlornly. His eyes lingered on the umbilical cords extending from their necks to a wider pipe, resonating with a hum of power that traversed its length, leading to the machine. Wide-eyed, he beheld his coveted prize, the object of his longing. Its power stirred a deep yearning within him—a primal thirst for knowledge, for the ability to unlock the world's secrets.

"This is what I require," he murmured softly. Turning to the lifeless girls, he addressed them as if weaving a tale. "This will tip the scales in our favor," he declared. "The Royals will be powerless against the might I shall derive from this contraption—everything we need lies right before my eyes." He paused, pivoting slowly to face the purring mechanism. "Never had my wildest dreams encompassed such marvels," he whispered, approaching the machine with measured steps. "Through this, I shall birth a Morter capable of harnessing the long-lost powers. Utilizing you, unfortunate children," he turned back to the tanks, his voice tinged with both malice and reverence, "I shall annihilate them all."
