“I run a clean establishment,” Bill said. “No one gets paid off. I’m clean.”

“Then how come, when we tried to speak to one of your managers, he ran out the back door? Could he have violated his probation? I’m sure that would go over well with his probation officer. You’d have to hire a whole new one. The training. The time. You’d have to actually get out of this ivory tower office of yours.”

So he wanted to be a hardass. Jen decided it might be fun to join in the game. “If we delve into some of the other employees who might we find? This could take time and you could lose business in the meantime. No one wants to go to a bar were the cops are hanging out.”

Bill put up his hands as if in defeat “Okay I’ll make sure everyone cooperates with you. As for my manager, the runaway, he’ll be there when you need him,”

A smile broke on Sean’s face as if the man had done some great favor instead of what he was supposed to do.
