13 Profiling

“Nothing. Just waiting for you.”

“Oh.” Jen didn’t look like she believed him. The rest of the detectives stared with more discretion than he did.

Sean’s mind wandered back to finding Ken. Grief swept over him for the loss of his partner and a friend, albeit not a close one.

“The scalps are souvenirs,” she told him.

As if she’d read his mind, Sean stared at her then realized she was talking about the pictures. “Right. Neat. Organized.”

“He’s clean.”

“Vacuumed before he left,” Sean said.

“So nice of him. Takes away the trace evidence. Bet he took the vacuum bag, too.”

“You’d win.”

She went silent again, her needles stowed on her lap, she flipped through the pictures. Her brow knit and she frowned. Souvenirs? But how could they have ended up in Ken’s house? Sean couldn’t believe that Ken would kill anyone. The killer had to have framed him.

Sean stood as questions swirled around in his brain. “I need to talk to some people.”
