2 Daydreaming today as well

As the sun was getting close to his prime, it was possible to see from the window of a house a man cooking, his height might make people confuse him with a bear but he is just tall nothing more nothing less.

"Can you get the salt for me, boy?" said the man wearing dark green clothes, his red hair could be called crimson without a problem and his voice was so manly that could make the body of his victim shivers if he were to fight, "It's at the left shelf"

"Understood..." the boy who was sitting on the floor near the dinner table got up and walked to the shelf, he opened it and got two flasks one with salt and one with sugar, then he took both and offered them to the man, "Here..."

The boy who seemed to be expressionless gave a faint smile that seemed to be forced, but it was not, but the man was so concentrated in the kitchen that he did not notice, he soon took a bottle from the boy's hand without looking at the flask, opened it and sprinkled a little on the food, after a little more mixing he tasted it.

"Blurgh, whate- boy!" he looked over his left shoulder to see the child and finally noticed the smile on his face, then stopped in the middle of the sentence, calmed down and said in a low tone while patting the boy's head "You really need to learn to read, boy"

After lunch the boy would always look to a random place and stay still like that for about an hour just daydreaming, as it happened every day the man paid no paying attention, if they were a normal family, the father would worry about the chances of his son being an abnormal or having the ability to see invisible things. But the man wasn't so close to the boy, but as long as he doesn't get hurt, he doesn't have a problem.

As it just so happens that the boy can do cleaning as well but the old man always does it by himself for some reason, that was truly a big mystery for the boy, considering how he had been treated until now.

At this time of year, most people are having their holidays to enjoy the festivals and visit their relatives, after all, it was almost the Annual Day of Broken Rule. But for the man who was now training his fists using a wooden doll covered with boar skin so as not to hurt his hands and legs, when he paused for a moment to catch his breath and looked at the open window, the boy who was supposed to be there, wasn't.

*crack* The sound of glass falling on the floor and breaking made the man sigh and go inside the house.

"Ok, if you are going to break something every time I turn around, then i will have to maintain you stay in my vision field all the time" said the man while cleaning the pieces of a broken glass-made bottle and when he finished it, he took the boy with him outside and started to teach him how to fight.

The problem was that the boy tries to imitate the man by punching and kicking things inside the house and tend to break things, so this decision of keeping him on his vision field would show to be a great one later on.

First he taught the boy how to move properly also the best position to stay during a fight, then he had the boy run some laps around the house which was bigger than one might think if seem just from the front, because the house has a yard which contained a large field to grow their own vegetables and some fruit trees.

Later when dusk came, they went home, ate some dinner and after brushing their teeth and then the man began to teach the boy how to read, write and a bit about the gods.

After learning some words the man would tell the boy about the gods that he prayed to, the first is Gandas the god of conflict and law whose blessing is given to hunters and warriors for their bravure. Next is the siblings Rai and Torai, they supposedly are responsible for the weather the next day and the people who the main work was cooking food using fire.

After some more lessons about the other gods, he tried to teach the boy how to read some important words like the man's name.

"This, boy, is how my name is written..." said the man after writing his own name on a piece of old paper from a blank book, there was really nothing written in the book but it had a cover, so he didn't care about using that book to have the boy learn words, he also had some others old books "Can you read it?"

If one were to see this scene it wouldn't look like a father teaching his son how to read but a demon forcing a child to form a contract with him, not that it really matters anyway.

"Ka-" the boy stopped mid-sentence and corrected himself "Can… Canie" after saying it he looked to the man with an expression that seemed to ask "Did I get it right?", that's just how much of a silent type the boy is.

The man named Canie was surprised because the boy learned this in just a few days. If it were a rich or noble family, they would think that their son was a genius and would send him to the best school. But they aren't, then he just thought of him as a good learner and coincidentally forgot to correct the boy, the man's name is not Canie, to be honest, it was just an abbreviation of his name, but to him this was not something to worry about now, it might be that in a few years the boy will start thinking about things on his own and notice that Canie sounds like a woman's name but for now it's not a problem.

The boy who now seemed like a five or six years old kid actually is three years old, and his name from birth is the kind that people would have to wash their mouth if said near a church so Canie just called him boy, but as it is unfortunate for a kid to remain like that, he decided to name him with an old friend's name who had already died.

"Boy, your name from now on will be Talls Faestus," said Canie while cooking the lunch for both.

Either way the kid would still need to meet other people to use the name he was given so there wasn't a need for him to care about it, for now, the place they lived was supposed to be a village but they were the only ones living there, they owned the biggest house that was the one near a cave by the foot of the mountain.

While they live there Canie would often leave Faestus to train and study alone while he went outside the village to hunt food, he often took advantage of the traveling merchants that usually passed by the run-down village to buy spices and others utilities from them, and sometimes did sell the things that Faestus and he make by themselves.

And it was like that that they lived until Faes completed five years old.

It was mid-autumn as they went to sleep, as usual, Faes would brush his teeth and pray to Rai for tomorrow be a sunny day, as Canie had promised him to teach how to hunt when he accomplished some requirements, and today he had finished it.

『You have obtained the Martial Arts: Kick Technique, Artisan, Cooking and Training skill』

Skills are really important for people but as Faes himself don't understand how they work, Canie had him train until he obtained the Martial Art one, only telling him that they were the most important thing during a fight, not minding it and only by thinking about hunting alongside Canie, he went to sleep with a smile on the face.

It was a great night of sleep for both of them, after brushing their teeth and eating breakfast, they started to wear some gear made of a hard leather, and went outside the house, before stepping out the front gate they kneeled and prayed to Gandas hoping a good hunt, after getting up they looked to each other with a cheerful expression in their face, and as they went in the direction of the forest then Faes looked back at the house that was getting farther and farther and thought.

"This will be… fun" and he started to walk again, without knowing that fun is not that easy to find but sadness is.
