4 Chapter 3

I run into the bathroom and turn on the sink water just as I heard Chase flounce on my bed. "If your fat ass breaks my bed, your gonna buy me a new and more expensive one." I call out playfully yet seriously. "Ouch. This is pure muscle. But I'll happily buy you a new one because this one's a rock." Chase comments back. I chuckle at his response. I wash my face to get all the makeup and grime. Turning off the sink, I finally get a good look at the dull figure in the mirror. She had a few scars and a huge bruise on her stomach. Her brown eyes had a faint shine of them. It was an accomplishment. For many years they had been empty. They still had their days of course when the memories surfaced and the world was too much but We knew everything would be fine. I turn on the shower and get ready to reminisce about the fight but of course Chase had a different idea. He came into the bathroom and sat on the back of the toilet. "Chase why can't you just sit on the top of the toilet like regular folks." I say with a sigh. I don't know why his sitting habits became a more pressing matter than why he came into the bathroom in the first place. "I think we both know that I am anything but regular or normal. Well, maybe 69.9% normal but that's about it." He says as a matter of fact. "Well at least it's more than half." I giggle. He had to be the biggest kid I'd ever remotely met.

*Time skip to after shower*

I told Chase to leave my room so I could change. He stood outside my closed door rambling about how complicated it is to be the next alpha. In all Honesty it didn't sound that hard but it did sound like a lot work for one person. Even with a Beta around there's still piles of stuff to do at the end of the day. I put on a oversize hoodie and shorts. I can't imagine being a Beta let alone and Alpha. My temper would probably snap like a twig and Clarity would run them like soldiers. The pack would be strong but those who question power and authority would end up exiled or killed. At least, this is what the books say. I have no doubt that some of that is true but definitely not all of the truth. Chase on the other hand would be a great Alpha. He had all of the traits and the power. Dare I say he was stronger than his father. There was no denying that Chase's father, Marlin was a great leader but it was time for him to step down. After all Chase is old enough but to his father he could be seen as a bit too immature for the title as Alpha. I told Chase he could come back. Now it's my turn to flop on the bed. I get under the covers and lay on my back. I feel the bed dip and saw Chase lay on the end of the bed facing me. " You know , there are a lot of other bedrooms to choose from other than mine. I have a letter C collecting dust because you won't claim a room." I start to ramble. Chase let out an acknowledging hum. I turn my head to look at him. He looked zoned out. Probably mind linking someone from his pack.

I didn't say anything and just stared up at the ceiling. Chase had offered to let me join the Crescent Moon Pack but I had declined his offer. Joining the pack full of wolves and hybrids would be a huge threat to my secret. I could silence a great deal of wolves and other creatures but that doesn't do shit about trust. I would always be seen as a threat if I were to rise to a high rank without question or proof of my whereabouts before I arrived to take on the role. Besides, I have this feeling that there is something waiting for me. I can't describe the feeling other than a calling. If I join Chase's pack, I would be this mysterious girl that invades the pack and automatically becomes the Beta. No one would know remotely anything about me unless I blew my cover as a fighter. This would give me the trust of a warrior and general but I lack people skills and order. I won't risk it. There would be so many questions and no answers. The Crescent's are a very friendly and down to earth Pack but they didn't have a naive or stupid bone in their bodies. I have to stay one step ahead of everyone. "Numquam sciant deinde tuus movéntur." I mumble.

I felt Chase stir and I looked over. He had already fallen asleep. I wonder who he was talking to and what. It worried me a little but he is capable of many things. That was a conversation for another time. I admire Chase. I would be lying if I said he wasn't cute. I run my fingers through his chocolate brown hair. He pushed his head into my hand. He is just like a little kid. Chase and I had a dysfunctional family dynamic. So it wasn't wrong to sleep in the same bed or cuddle. Chase was the only sort of brother I'd ever allow myself to get close to. He never gave me much of a choice when we first met. Those times had long since blurred for me but Chase always had a better memory so I'm sure he could tell me about most of our conversations from our younger days if I asked. When it's time for the younger generation to take over their parents rein, he will be ready. That was my last thought before a dose off to sleep and forget today's events.
