The Intruder

Edna blinked. She glanced at her master's back once again.

"What did he just say?" she asked in disbelief.

A smile graced her lips. Edna was confused about why she felt so happy. What her master said was the basic compliment a master probably said when he accepted his servant, but… it felt like she had a sudden urge to dance.

That night Edna could not sleep. Even though she felt more relaxed now, her body still refused to fall asleep before three in the morning. She kept waking up and spending the night with a smile on her face, looking at the brown roof of her room.

Edna even forgot about the condition of the Westfall family, which had previously weighed her mind.

She felt that now her master was more relaxed around her. Although at breakfast, the man still spent his time silently, there was no more tension between the two of them. Her master also bought her some new servant uniforms. Edna looked more fashionable now. With her green uniform, she appeared even brighter.

Even though Edna was treated more fairly now, her work did not lessen. She still carried all the groceries bought by her master, was in charge of cleaning the mansion they lived in, cleaned his master's room, and made some refreshments.

However, Edna did it more calmly. She was also allowed to speak now, although she had to get permission first.

For example...

"Excuse me, Sir. I ask for your permission to speak…" was the sentence that Edna always said before she started to speak.

Her master's answer was only two.

"Say it," meaning she might speak.

"Tch." An annoyed squeal meant that it wasn't the right time for Edna to speak, and she immediately buttoned her lip tightly and wouldn't let out a single sound.

After five days had passed and Edna still hadn't seen Luca, she was curious and wanted to ask about the man. Her master was sitting by himself in the back garden and refused to eat his dinner, but Edna still stood behind him.

"I ask for your permission to speak, Sir," said Edna in a small voice.

"Hm, say it."

"I… haven't seen Luca lately. Do you know when he will be back?" she asked.

"I don't know," Maximillian replied curtly.

Edna closed her mouth again. It looked like her master was in a bad mood, especially in the last two days. The man looked more restless than usual. Even yesterday, he went out all day and came back pale.

Of course, Edna was curious. Even though her master started to act nicer to her, the ice wall between them still stood strong. Buying her a few pairs of clothes and having a short talk wouldn't immediately break the wall between them.

Her master's hatred for humans couldn't be shaken up. And Edna, a human being, dared not bid her luck any further.

"You can go back to your room. Get some rest because tomorrow I need you to work," Maximillian ordered, and Edna immediately returned to her room to rest.

Maximillian was starting to get annoyed because in the last two days, he couldn't trace Luca's whereabouts. In those two days, their communication was also cut off. Maximillian would kill the young dragon when he came back later.

Clearly, Maximillian ordered Luca to look for a man named Jonathan. A man who suddenly disappeared after his wound was completely healed. They had a hard time looking for that human, and now he couldn't trace the whereabouts of his subordinate.

Moreover, Maximillian also felt uneasy because only Luca knew how to make a potion that could lessen the strange heat raging within his body. He needed that potion as he felt his body temperature was rising again. Maximillian didn't like this condition.

The man sat all by himself in the garden until midnight. He was still trying to connect his telepathy to talk to his subordinate, but there wasn't a single sign indicating that Luca could hear him.

"I will kill that rascal if he dares to show his face one more time after this."

"KYAAAA!!!"

Maximillian glanced back. He frowned upon hearing the shrill screams from inside his mansion. Taking no time to run, he teleported directly to the door of his servant's room.

The sweet scent of blood filled his senses. Inside, there were some banging and sobbing sounds. Maximilian tried to ignore the sweet smell of blood and opened his servant's door, which was locked from the inside.

"Help!!!" shouted his human servant once more.

Something within Maximillian was burning. Flame blazed throughout his body, while his eyes flashed with anger. The man simply touched the wooden door in front of him with the palm of his hand and the door caught in flame, turning it to ashes in an instant.

Inside the room, he saw a man in a black mask pinning down his servant with a sharp knife pointing at the boy's neck. Blood dripped from Edna's injured palm.

Maximillian walked over. His every step carried an extremely powerful killing aura. The knife in the masked man's hand loosened up a bit. His hands were shaking because he had never felt this intimidated before. All the events in his life were played in front of his eyes. A sign that he would never be able to live after this.

With a sudden urge to survive, the man stood up and lunged at Maximillian.

Maximillian only had to stretch out his hand. He grabbed the man by the neck, while the man held Maximillian's large hand, trying to break free from his grip. Blood slowly came out through Maximillian's fingernails that began to sink into the masked man's neck.

"You… lowly human. The most disgusting creature I've ever met. Destructive creatures unfit to live on earth. The most pathetic creature. You don't have any power. You have absolutely no grace from the gods. How dare you… the filthiest, stinkiest, ugliest creature… infiltrate into my mansion…"

Maximilian glanced at his servant who was trembling in fear behind him. His grip on the masked man's neck tightened. "How dare you breathe in front of me?"

Maximilian gripped the man even harder and snapped his neck in one try. Edna screamed in surprise at the sound of the neck bones breaking. The blood pouring down the masked man's neck splashed onto the floor of her room.
