Maximillian Gave Edna One Last Chance

"Sir, give me and Luca one last chance."

Maximilian turned again. "No. You two are both useless. Get out of my sight."

"If I get what you are looking for and what Luca failed to get, will you give me a second chance?"

"You won't be able to do it. You're just a weak human. Not even a dragon can do that."

"You sound pretty pessimistic for a majestic dragon."

Maximilian turned his head quickly, throwing a death glare at Edna.

"What did you say just now?"

"Nothing," Edna replied with an innocent expression.

She had already crossed the line. Pushing her luck further would make no difference.

"Are you underestimating my judgment?" asked Maximillian, holding back his lips from curling up.

The man believed that the helpless human before him was holding onto the rope of despair. Opposing him only made it worse.

Alright, Maximillian would see what this little human could do. With that tiny, fragile, and easily broken body, he was sure that his servant would give up sooner or later.

And Maximillian would be the one who laughed over his servant's grave, looking at her lifeless body.

"No, Sir. I will never belittle your judgment. I'm just asking for a chance to prove myself. I will take Luca's position to complete your mission."

"And if you fail?"

"If I succeed, I only ask that you keep your promise. That is, to take me away from this kingdom."

Maximillian swore if there was a human who answered his question like his servant, that human would not have lasted a second. His hand would already strangle and break them in an instant.

"You are very optimistic for a lowly human," Maximilian replied in the same manner as Edna.

Edna smiled simply. "If that can prove my usefulness, of course, I should be optimistic."

Maximillian's crooked smile slowly faded. The man looked at his servant intently. There was something he didn't want to admit every time he saw his servant's smile.

"Whatever. I don't care. Do whatever you want, but if you leak anything about me being here, I will kill you with my own hands."

"Yes, Sir. I understand," replied Edna.

Maximillian only looked at Edna when the girl lowered her head and asked to leave the room Without glancing at him at all.

Seeing it, something inside him roared up in disappointment, especially when Edna closed the bedroom door, leaving him alone in silence.

Maximillian didn't like this mixed feeling...

Edna returned to the room where Luca was being treated. She sat on a chair and watched Luca who was trying to fight the pain. She had already made a decision. Edna would go to the Westfall residence. To get the thing left behind by Luca and prove to her master that she was useful.

Edna needed to focus on finishing this task, so she could leave this kingdom as soon as possible. She already knew what happened to the Westfall family.

Her master had told her everything. About the looting in the west warehouse, rumors of Jonathan who was injured and recovered overnight to Lucy who fell victim to the looting incident.

Edna looked at Luca once again. She wondered what happened to the man.

Why did Luca get hurt? Was he caught and then held captive? Edna found that hard to believe, considering that the Westfall residence didn't have such a skilled knight.

Also… wasn't Luca a dragon? The man should be able to fight them easily, right?

Edna spent the night looking after Luca. She also gave him medicine because the man had a fever.

The next morning, after Edna prepared breakfast for Luca and Maximillian, she decided to ask her master permission one more time.

Edna stood behind Maximillian. "Sir, I ask for your permission to speak."

Maximillian, who was enjoying his meal, stopped his hand movement. He put down the plate and fork and let Edna speak.

"This morning, I will leave for the Westfall residence."

"This morning?"

"Yes, Sir."

"You remember what I said last night?"

"I still remember it well. I am not allowed to say a word about where you are and who you are if I am being held captive."

Maximillian refrained from looking back.

"Up to you."

Maximillian was about to continue eating when Edna placed a bag on the table. The man then looked up.

Edna immediately stepped away after realizing she had approached her master without permission.

"I promise I will return. You can keep this as a guarantee that I will return after four days."

"If you don't come back?"

"I will definitely come back," Edna replied firmly, making Maximillian raise his eyebrows.

"Whatever. I don't need those cheap jewels. Get rid of them."

"Alright, Sir," replied Edna who took her bag back in a hurry.

After finishing his breakfast, Maximillian returned to his room. From his room, he could see Edna who had passed through the gate of the mansion.

"That brat really doesn't understand the concept of danger," Maximillian growled in annoyance.

Edna walked all by herself. She had prepared food for four days. Before infiltrating the Westfall residence, she had to observe the situation and make plans. That was why she asked for four days.

Edna walked down the road. She was lucky that no one in the city recognized her. It turned out that not being allowed to leave the house brought her some benefits.

After observing her surroundings, Edna just realized that the abandoned mansion they lived in was quite far from the city. It took a few hours using a carriage. And with her master teleportation power, it only took seconds.

In the evening, Edna took a break at one of the night pubs by ordering only a glass of water.

She slept for an hour, then continued on her journey. The girl had been through a lot. Walking alone in the middle of the night didn't scare her anymore. She even buried a body once, so something like ghosts wouldn't frighten her at all.

Luckily, that night, the moon was shining so brightly that Edna didn't feel lonely. Actually, another purpose for traveling alone was to clear her head.

She couldn't think straight when she was near her master. Every step of hers made Edna ponder.
