3 The Dog

"aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"…

"It's dark! I can't see anything! Somebody help me! Get me out of here! I don't like the dark! I'm scared! Please! Somebody, help!...

"gahhhhhhhhhhhh!", Mia exclaims as she wakes up from sleep. She was confused as she wakes up in her bedroom cozily wrapped up in the comforter. She thought it was a dream, so to recheck, she opened the window to see if it rained. But to her surprise, the lawn was completely dry. She checked herself, she also, was not wet. Her clothes were all dry including her hair.

"Huh? It really must have been a dream. That was one heck of a dream!", said Mia as she calmed down a bit. She slapped herself in the cheeks and went into the bathroom to wash up.

As soon as she opens the door she sees a dog in the bathtub. It was sleeping peacefully. It had silky, white fur which was shining when the sun rays fell on it. It looked magical. It was so beautiful that Mia was in her own world, trying to take a picture of it in her mind so that she can paint it later.

But then, a sudden realization hit her. she jumped with an "aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!".

With her scream, Mrs. Carson came running into Mia's room with a broom. "What?! what is it? Why did you scream? Did someone break into our house?" she started rambling on exaggeratedly.

Mia quickly closed the bathroom door as she said, "It's nothing, it's nothing, I just saw a roach, that's it."

"A roach??!!" Mrs. Carson exclaimed! "Where is it right now? Where did it go? Tell me! I need to kill it or shoo it out of the house before it causes any trouble!" she said as she was looking around the bedroom.

"Calm down ma! It's long gone. I'll call for you if I ever see it again. okay?" says Mia as she tries to calm her mother down. "Okay. but you must shoo it away as soon as you see it if you can't reach me. It will cause a mess if it stays in our house." Mrs. Carson replies. "Also, wash up and come down for breakfast. it's already 7! You'll be late for school. It's your first day, you can't be late on the first day of school! Hurry!" "Okay, okay. I'll be right there. Just give me ten minutes." says Mia with a "Phew!" as she closes the door while shutting her mother out. Mrs. Carson mutters, "kids these days...phew...", as she was standing in front of the shut door of Mia's room.

Meanwhile, in her bedroom, Mia was wandering restlessly in front of the bathroom door while thinking, "What was that inside? I think it was a dog.... it was so cute!" again, she slapped herself tightly so that she won't get distracted and think about what to do next. "Okay! Let's be brave! you can do it, Mia! don't get distracted by its cuteness and focus on the important part! you need to get it out of the house first and then find out how it came in here in the first place!" she thought to herself as she was opening the bathroom door.

"creak"... the bathroom door made a loud creak when she was opening it slowly. She first peeked inside, to see if it was still there or if she only imagined it. When she peeked into the bathtub, to her surprise the dog was gone.

She started laughing while muttering to herself, "Wow! what is wrong with me today? First the weird dream and now the dog? Seriously, I must be going crazy--aaaaahhh!" she was shocked to see the white dog standing on the shelf right behind her. It was staring intensely at Mia, as if it would burn a hole through Mia's body.

Mia froze. She didn't know what to do next. It was as if all the confidence she had before just vanished into thin air. She also, like the dog, was staring right at it without blinking an eye with a blank expression.

The dog moved a bit and started scratching its neck. That's when Mia flinched and came back to her senses. Then, the dog jumped off the shelf onto Mia. She was startled, but when she saw the dog cuddling in her arms, she relaxed a bit and lowered her guard. She was dazzled by its cuteness. "it's so cute" she thought.

She then thought to herself,"No! I need to focus!", and came back to her senses. She placed the dog back on the shelf. Then, she started talking to it, "Hey, how did you come into my bathroom? This is the second floor, it's not like you came in from the window..." and like that she fell deep into her thoughts.

But, the dog did not give Mia time to think. He immediately jumped onto her and started licking her face and coiled himself in her arms cozily. Mia smiled and decided to think of a way to get him out of the house first.

If she would ask by her parents for help or go seek out to them on this matter, she was sure that she would have to swim in an ocean of questions and that they would have her give him up and leave him in some shelter, but she did'nt want to do that. So, she decided to come up with a plan and make sure to get it out of here without getting spotted by her parents.

After thinking for a long time in the shower, she finally decided to stuff it in her backpack and take him with her. After finalizing the plan, she carefully put it in her backpack and closed the zipper, half-open, hoping that it won't suffocate. Then, she carried it carefully while coming down the stairs and while putting it down near the breakfast counter.

"What took you this long? It's already 7:30! You will be late! Hurry up and eat your breakfast. Your dad made waffles for your first day of school." Says Mrs. Carson, as she drinks her coffee. "Sorry...! I was lazy so I played around with my phone.", replies Mia while making excuses.

After Mia finishes her waffles, Mrs. Carson says," Are you ready to go? I'll drop you off. Your school is on my way to work."

"No No, it's alright I want to go by myself. It's just three blocks away, I don't need a ride, and besides, I just had a heavy breakfast, I'll walk so that I can digest it." Mia gives excuses over excuses while laughing nervously.

Mrs. Carson then leaves with a sigh. Meanwhile, Mia immediately checks on the dog as soon as she hears the door close. She was worried about it all this time.

Finally, she leaves the house. On the way to school, all she could think about was what she should do about the dog when she is at school. She finally decided to keep it near her, even during classes.

At school, all she cared about was to make sure that no one hurts the backpack. Then, she finally reached her locker, where she opened up the backpack in the locker, to make sure that the dog was okay. When she saw the dog, still nibbling the waffle she gave it before leaving the house, her heart was skipping a beat because of its cuteness.

Suddenly, she hears someone whispering in her ears," what have you got there?"...
