Chapter 16: A Visitor

Malia POV:

The next hour was a whirlwind. The store owner, Delphine, a slightly hunch-backed woman, outfitted the group with entirely new wardrobes in the latest and finest Aeonian fashions—all on the government’s dime. She dispatched a column of men to fetch and bring back rack after rack of items.

Lucie helped Malia. She tied a wide, violet scarf around Malia’s chest and knotted it in the back. She fitted silk bracelets around Malia’s wrists, a clear, velvety necklace on her neck, armbands, mesh thigh highs and a skirt. Grace donned a more conservative ensemble. Todd threw on a tunic.

Delphine planned several dignified, traditional robes for Charles that befit a diplomat. But before dressing him, she asked that he pose wearing the bathrobe so she may sketch him in it.

“You should just keep wearing the bathrobe, Charles,” Malia said. Lucie agreed. So did Grace.

“Do you think Chloe Monet would like it?” he asked.
