4 The Manager Doesn't Care for Roleplay

Things were looking up for our little demon lord. Her first shift went off well enough, not to mention that there was now an amazing source of food she had access to for free. That would certainly free up some resources for them to worry about other matters, such as the rent.

Because of the calculation in regards to Rame's job and pay. Mifuru had no need to find work, and instead could handle the dealings of their housing situation. It had only been a few days, but things were looking a little tight while they waited for her first paycheck.

"Looks like it's the end of the first week here for you." Juuto stated as she entered the store to begin yet another shift. "Don't worry about the check, I'll make sure it gets to you before you leave."

"That's great, boss." She was glad to hear that. Hopefully, they weren't going to have to survive on that near empty fridge for much longer. So going to sleep with their stomachs growling was going to be a thing of a past for them soon.

"You really don't have to end every sentence with the word 'boss', you know?" He informed her. Sure, it was cool for him at first, but the term was beginning to grate a little on the ears.

"Sure thing, bo… I mean, you got it Sakai." She responded, making sure to referring to him by his last name. Apparently that was another things she needed to get used to. Though to be fair, most people on Enatis only have one name. It's a good thing that there wasn't that huge of a population, or else repeats would've happened pretty frequently.

Speaking of her old world, Rame had kind of stopped caring about her revenge. Sure, it wasn't like she forgot what happened. It was more that she found something else to desire more.

"Hey, can I go grab a hot dog?" She asked.

"You just got here." He replied. "Could you at least wait until your first break?"

"Aw… Okay." She hung her head down in sorrow. While it pained her to be patient. Rame knew that he was the one that commanded control of this store, so he was the one to get the final say.

"You know, if you like that stuff so much. Why don't you just make it at home?"

"Eh? Well, it's just that money's a little tight right now." She cursed her current situation from holding her back. When she moved up in this world, the girl knew she was going to have to make up for lost time. "But how can I procure such supplies?"

"By going to the market?" He said with a bewildered look on his face. That was a really strange way of wording that question. Her name made it sound like she was from here, but maybe she was raised in a different country. Yeah, that was how he rationalized her weird behavior. Because he otherwise didn't care about it and wasn't going to bother digging into it. "Oh, unless you meant you didn't know what ingredients to get."

"Right." She accepted his explained and took it as if she meant that all along. "Like that wonderful cheese sauce. It's one of the most delectable things I've ever eaten."

"The stuff we have here isn't sold in stores. But I'm sure I can help you shop for a better alternative." He said. "Oh, uh, don't take that as me hitting on you or anything. I just figured that you must be new around here. So if you needed any help, I could lend a hand."

Rame didn't know what he meant by hitting on her. Since it didn't seem that he was going to attack her with any weapons, then she could accept his aid. In fact, this man to her was kind of like that guide whenever someone ended up falling into Enatis. That sort of stuff happened way too frequently for a system like that to not have eventually popped up.

Now that she was thinking of it. With how much he had been telling her about the area. Did this world have the same system? No that couldn't be it. He wasn't aware of her status, so this must be pure happenstance.

Work went on as usual. There was a rhythm that she had gained during her first week here. Similar people would come in, grab some drinks and snacks, then pay for it. It was simple. Then about halfway through, it was time to make sure everything was stocked for the later shifts. That also was very simple, and rather easy thanks to her strength.

Once she had taken care of all her duties, Rame was finally free to do the one thing she was most excited for. Hot dogs. Though, when she went for it. That was also the time when someone familiar entered the store.

"There you are my lady." It was Mifuru. "It appears you aren't currently working, so I'd like to discuss something with you."

"Not now." She tried to brush her off. "I might not be working, but I'm still on shift." Of course, that was the spoken reason. The truth was that she really just wanted to enjoy her food in peace without being bogged down in the details of their life.

"It's just that I'd like to make sure you'll be receiving your paycheck soon." She ignored the obvious sign that the girl would rather be left alone. "We just ran out of food, and I cannot go shopping without funds."

"Yeah I'm getting the money when I'm done here." She hastily took a bite of her hot dog. "Don't worry about it. The great Pluto never lets anyone down."

"Hey sorry to interrupt your…" Juuto walked up, only to be greeted by the sight of the person she was talking to.

Now, talking with customers is all fine and dandy. It's just that… Well, Mifuru was wearing servant's clothes. It made sense to her, since that's how she viewed her role. But it would certainly catch anyone living in the modern world off guard just by seeing her.

"Is this your friend?" He asked. It was hard not to stare at her wearing this… Maid outfit.

"Ah, you must be mistress's employer." Mifuru didn't consider this to be a strange meeting. "I am only her humble servant."

"Don't say that." Rame whispered to her. Of the two of them, the demon lord was the one to acclimate to human life here. That's pretty much what happens when her servant spend so much time at home instead of studying the ways of the land. "She's my roommate, actually."

"Uhuh…" He responded. "Look, I don't really care all that much what you guys want to do in your private lives. But can you please keep your roleplaying to yourselves? I don't want to scare off any customers." Truthfully, he didn't like it at all. But it wasn't as if he was going to be all that mean about it to his subordinate.

"Right, and I'm sure that my... Friend... Is going to go home now." Rame said out loud, not facing at Mifuru. Though those words certainly were directed towards her. It would appear that embarrassment was going to be a common emotion she was going to feel the longer she spent time here.

"I shall make my leave." Satisfied with the answer she got from her master, she walked out of the automated doors. Juuto was beginning to not be a big fan with all these new faces he was going to have to get used to. Something about that fact seemed strange to him, but he brushed it off as him being a little upset at the natural order being disturbed too much.

As she left, another one entered the store. One that Juuto was quite familiar with over the years. "Ah, Mrs. Nagaya. I figured you'd be coming soon." He said, returning back to the register to prepared her usual order.

"Ah, Juuto. I keep telling you to just call me Morin." She told him as she slowly approached him. "We've known each other for years now. There's nothing wrong with being informal." She was here for her weekly errands of collecting some 'adult' beverages, and some magazines for her husband. "I forgot to tell you last time, but congratulations on the promotion." She told him as she paid for her items.

"It's really not a big deal." He responded bashfully to her words. "I didn't' really do all that much to get it."

"Oh, but you deserve it." She said. "Hmm? And you must be the new employee." Morin noticed Rame as she followed Juuto.

"That's correct miss."

"Yep, Kuzuhana's the one that hired her to replace my old position." He informed her. Mainly just to let her know that he had nothing to do with the hiring process. Not that it stopped her next remark.

"I have to say…" She leaned in to keep it away from the girl's ears. "She's pretty cute. Have you thought of-"

"No, of course not." He stopped her before the old lady had the chance to finish her question. "Anyway, I hope you have fun with Mr. Nagaya." He ended the conversation, not wanting to continue anymore teasing from anyone on the topic of his relationship status.

"Always so serious." She sighed. "I hope that one day, you'll find someone who makes you feel as good as I feel with my husband. And have a nice night to you, young lady." She winked at Rame, as she walked out of the store.

"I don't get it. Why did she wink at me?" She said once the two of them were alone again.

"Sorry about that." He responded. "It's just that everyone around here just wants me to finally find love." He chuckled at what he considered to be a ridiculous concept. "I'm fine with what I got. So I'll just stick to what I like doing the most."

"What? You can't just settle for something like this." Considering her past, she never thought that wanting to run one little store was all anyone would just aspire to. "I mean, you could try to take over the world."

"Phff." He scoffed at the suggestion. "I see you like to read too much manga." Of course, she didn't. So whatever he just said flew over her head in terms of understanding. "But you're right that I could probably find myself a better job." There were plenty of opportunities for him. He could've found a small office job, and probably work up his way there. Or maybe being manager here long enough, he might be able to run a branch or something.

But it's not really the type of thing he wanted to pursue. Admittedly, when he first took this job. It was because he wasn't sure what his future was going to be, so this was supposed to be temporary until he got his life on track. That was before he learned just how right it felt to be standing right here, doing this job right now.

"But it's nice you got ambitions." He said. "So don't worry about me. I'm just a stepping stone for your future."

Rame wasn't sure how she felt about his statement. She felt something that she had never felt before, when he seemed so content for his life. But, what was it supposed to mean?

Before she had any time to process her thoughts, the ringing of the door meant they had to get back to work. It was that man again, the one that told Rame to try out the hot dogs here.

"Oh hey, it's you again." She said, looking pretty happy to see her first familiar face. "Here for some more hot dogs?"

"No…" His response sounded really strange. It was the complete opposite of his homely and kind tone he had when he first meet her. "I'm here… To kill ya."
