5 He's all I see

I went back to the law firm channelling my emotions into my work. I analyzed my latest case and finished all my paperwork early handing it to my boss. "Wow you're on top form today Maria, any reason why?" She asked me, accepting my paperwork glancing over it with confounded eyes. "Just a passion for the job miss" I smile through my lies. She dismissed me and I returned to my office. With no work left to distract me, I sat in silence thinking. I couldn't get Victor out of my mind. I grit my teeth in annoyance, why him of all people? I ran my hands through my hair racking my brain for any shred of information that could help me. I sighed deciding to go home early today.

I left in a hurry ignoring Oliver's pressing questions as to where I was going and why I was leaving so early. I pulled my cream overcoat closer walking home with a melancholy presence. "So you're friends with Theodore and Vincent. I should've guessed really, I assume you've worked with them before" that familiar voice called from the shadows again. Screw this. "What the hell do you want now." I snapped towards the alleyway. Now was not the time.

He growled slightly before pulling me in like last time. "Something's obviously upset ma cherié otherwise she'd know not to take that tone with me," he said roughly. "Fine, if you want to be like that. I'm tired that's all." I said switching my attitude, "Yes I'm friends with Theo and Vincent. Can't we talk somewhere other than a gross alleyway" I grimaced. He gave me a look of slight confusion. "What? You expect me to like dark alleyways?" I said shaking his grip from my arm. He looked at me for a moment before smirking. "Fine, we can go somewhere else." I don't know if he expected me to regret my words or not. "Okay, lead the way" I smiled sweetly knowing what I was doing. He looked to me cautiously before brushing it off and leading me to a sleek ink-black car. I put the edge of my coat up and put my head down as I got into the car. I sat still and made no attempt to reach my phone. "What's got you acting like this ma cherié?" Victor finally questioned as he signalled to the driver to drive.

"Because I have questions for you and I don't want to ask them in a dirty alleyway," I said turning to him. His defined features seemed to soften at my lack of ulterior motives however he still seemed cautious. "I know you were expecting more defiance but really where would that get me?" I asked settling into the immaculate leather seat. I was true to my word, I really did only want to talk to him and I believe if I act right no harm will come to me. After all, he's the one that wants me, not the other way round. Just as we got familiar with the comfortable silence my phone just happened to ping. Not once, not twice but non-stop. Victor gave me a suspicious look as I went to reach it with annoyance.

I sighed, "It's Theo," I told him. My phone was flooded with "Where are you?" "Oliver told me you left in a hurry" "Are you okay?" "Please tell me you're safe" "Text me where you are, I'll come get you" I scrolled through them all with a look of irritation. "I'm going to tell him I'm fine and I left because of a family emergency so I won't reply for a while. That sound believable?" I asked Victor. He seemed surprised that I even checked with him. "Yes." He said watching me type. I hit send and turned my phone off. "Sorry about that." I apologized slipping my phone into my coat pocket. I leant back in the seat with a smile.

The car was extremely clean and the driver's suit was almost as crisp as the one Victor wore. I let my mind wander, does he always wear suits? I wonder where he buys them. I also wondered where he was taking me. I turned my head to him. He was leant back in his seat more relaxed than the last time I saw him. My gaze wandered over him. His light waistcoat chain contrasted his navy suit that stood out against his pale skin. The suit fit him perfectly, I wondered where he got it measured. By now I was unaware of his gaze fixed on my wandering eyes. "Like what you see ma cherié?" He said with a smile. "I was admiring the suit that's all," I said ignoring the warmth of my cheeks.

"Oh Sebastian got me this, he's my right-hand man. I think you two would get on well." Victor's smile never faded. I gave him a slight smile trying to ignore the shine in his eyes. Don't grow too comfortable Maria. I mentally kicked myself for forgetting whose presence I was in. "Mm-hm keep telling yourself that" he smirked leaning back in his seat as the driver told us we were nearly there. "And where is there exactly?" I asked Victor who looked deep in thought for a second. "You shall see ma cherié" I rolled my eyes, of course, he wasn't going to tell me. The car stopped a few minutes later outside a rather large house surrounded by pretty trees. How far out of the city were we?

Victor opened my door for me offering his hand. I took it politely as he led me into what I assumed was his family house. He smirked at my rather astounded facial expression. The house was beautiful inside and out. The walls were a soft beige and a beautiful chandelier hung in the corridor it's lights a soft mellow colour. My hands traced the engravings in the mahogany side table in awe. A series of little engraved crows could be seen flying up the bannister that followed a sleek staircase. "It's pretty right? I designed most of it" he said with ease. I nodded slightly forgetting who he was for a moment or two. He led me into a living room. The fireplace illuminated the darkened room with its soft orange hues as he gestured to a leather seat opposite what I assumed was his seat. "So you said you have questions for me ma cherié?"
