7. Small arguement

CHAPTER 7 : THE SMALL ARGUMENT

"Was the patient hit on his head? Or maybe he bumped his head into something when his car met with an accident?" Eleanora asked professionally.

"Our car was hit from the backside by another vehicle and Boss was sitting in the backseat." Mason instantly answered.

Eleanora nodded, her assumptions coming right.

"What happened!" Irelyn could no longer stand her silent behaviour.

"These men didn't give me enough time to even run some basic tests and investigations on the patient. I suspected he had some head injury and thankfully operated on him on local anaesthetic and didn't give him any sedatives as well.

We will wait till his vitals are stable before sending him for CT scan. He might be having some injury in his head." Eleanora explained patiently.

"Will that be a serious issue for brother?" Evander asked.

"What he is suffering from is called Diffuse axonal injury. If his case is mild, he might only suffer from a little vision blurring or headache and dizziness. But if this is serious, he might land up in coma-" Eleanora was still speaking when suddenly Irelyn lost her balance and collapsed on the floor.

Eleanora and Evander helped her back to feet, before making her sit on a bench.

"Madam, please stay strong. I am just explaining to you the outcomes. For now we can only make assumptions as your people didn't give me enough time.

As a doctor, it is my responsibility to explain to you all the threats and complications even if a patient will never suffer them. Let's not lose hopes till we have the confirmatory results on those tests." Eleanora said before walking away, not understanding how she was supposed to react to this.

"Ellie!!" The moment Eleanora turned towards the corner, she could hear Ethan shouting from the barrier of men in black outfits.

'Of course they would seal down this area.' She thought to herself before walking towards Ethan.

"Are you alright?" Ethan immediately hugged her tight, his heartbeat raised considerably.

"I am good, Eth. Just a long day." She said in as casual a tone as she could.

"I heard he threatened you with a gun?" Ethan broke his hug before kissing her forehead, trying to compose her as well as himself.

"Dramatic it was." She smiled weakly.

"The hospital staff isn't very approving of this. But don't worry. With me here, nobody can question you." Ethan said before holding her hand, walking away from the corridor.

"Guess I can trust you with this, right?" Eleanora tried cracking a little smile, not wanting Ethan to worry about her anymore.

Anyways she was done operating Alexander - the beast. She was sure that the hospital committee would assign another doctor on the case and she wouldn't see him again.

"I will take over this case." Ethan said, making her freeze on the spot.

Ethan who was walking suddenly sensed her unease and turned to look at her.

"What happened? Are you afraid of them-"

"You are not taking this case." Eleanora had never been this harsh with Ethan, which shocked him as well.

"I know this is dangerous but-"

"No excuses Eth. This is my only request." Eleanora said, cutting him off again.

"You know that the hospital management trusts me. Plus who else can handle a neuro-surgery patient better than me?" Ethan asked matter-of-factly.

"Dr. Rutherford can handle him." Eleanora answered.

"He is my junior Ellie. He is not very experienced." Ethan explained.

"Look Eth, I don't care who takes over this patient. But it is definitely not you. Either you listen to me or I am not talking to you again." Eleanora said, knowing how bad of an idea it was to remain even slightly in touch with Alexander.

"Seriously Ellie? You are literally talking about either choosing you or that patient? Why are you being so immature? What's the big deal?" Ethan asked, his tone rising a little.

"Then why are you so hellbent on treating him? I know you are talented but any other doctor can take over! Why are you getting so involved with him, to the extent that you are arguing with me?" Eleanora asked back, her voice higher and angrier, as she jerked her hand out of Ethan's.

Ethan looked downwards, something changing in his eyes. For a moment, the chilling aura he emanated even scared Eleanora in a shocking way.

She was used to this murderous aura, but not from Ethan Blackwood! This was how the all-time-murderous-Alexander-Laurent was.

Though Ethan was quick to shut his feelings, Eleanora knew that the chill she had felt down her spine moments ago was not her hallucination. IT. WAS. REAL.

Ethan instantly held back her hand, though his grip was a little tighter than necessary.

"Fine. I won't take this case." Ethan said monotonously as both of them made their way back home without speaking another word.

Ethan had already known about Alexander's identity when Eleanora was operating on him. He had wanted to avenge Eleanora's accident. This was why he was so stubborn about being his consulting doctor, so that he could understand him from close proximity and act at the right moment.

But Eleanora's statement had given him no option but to relent, making him lose his temper.

"Good night Ellie." Ethan wished her as Eleanora stepped out of the car, but she simply closed the door behind her before making her way inside her house.

Ethan kept waiting on the same spot for a long time before finally stepping on the pedal and racing away.

Next morning, Eleanora had planned to wake up late, wishing to utilise her sick leave properly when she was made to wake up from a call.

"Hell.. hello." She had picked up the call in her sleepy state, not even watching the caller.

"Dr. Rosenheim." The voice sounded from the other side.

"Uhh hmm." Eleanora replied, still sleepy as her voice was all raspy on the call.

She rubbed her eyes before yawning and turning on the other side, her phone still between her ear and shoulder.

"You do remember you have a patient, right Dr. Rosenheim?" The voice on the other end asked, making Eleanora lose all her sleepiness.
