1 Her Beginning
"Hah..." A young girl sighed while drawing money from the A.T.M making a distressed expression. Standing outside the A.T.M booth, her long black hair gently flowed down to her waist. Her red eyes twinkled under the sunlight, as she delicately frowned. She had unknowingly attracted the gaze of the people around her because of her beauty.
The girl slipped in the money in her hands in her bag.
She got on a subway bus and came to a small apartment. She pushed the door open and went inside.
"I've only got some money left in my bank account. Now with the rent paid, I can only afford food for a few more days…" The girl mumbled to herself.
This girl named Athena was currently facing a huge problem. Ever since she graduated from University majoring in Mechanical Engineering a few years earlier than her peers, she had yet to find a place to intern in.
It was true that she was 20, much too young to be graduating the University, but it was because she had a high IQ and was very intelligent okay? Why was she being rejected everywhere for being underage?
Weren't they all her age once?!
Athena indignantly sighed at her ill fate.
She was an orphan, so she had been relying on her Uncle and Aunt ever since she was born.
She graduated early and came to this city so that she could stop being a burden on them and support herself.
However things weren't looking too good for her, it had been months and miraculously, she hadn't found a job!
With her money finishing and her Uncle's disapproval, if she didn't find a job by the end of this month, she would have to come back to her Uncle and Aunt back at Z City.
This made her a little sad. She had lived in this city for some time now and not being able to stay here would be quite regrettable.
"Ugh…I give up" Athena groaned to herself after thinking of her circumstances.
Finding a job was harder than killing someone!
She took out a box of instant noodles from her kitchen cabinet and microwaved them. Then she sat on a sofa and turned on the TV.
While watching a cartoon she liked, she was lazily eating her noodles.
However suddenly, the breaking news cut in, stopping her cartoon.
Reporter: "Breaking News! A great series of unnatural events have been taking place all over the country!"
Ah?
Athena raised her brows and curiously looked on.
"Earthquakes have hit north of the country at city X, N and W! Furthermore, at the same time, City V has been attacked by a strong typhoon! These events are not ceasing at all, the entire country is in turmoil! It is suggested to-Ah...What!? Viewers! A meteor has crashed into city Z!!!"
Bang!
The cup on Athena's hand fell on the sofa and the soup and noodles sprawled all over her clothes.
Yet she didn't bat and eye, and Athena anxiously got up and keeled beside the T.V.
What the hell is...
What's happening?!
Unnatural events?! Floods and Earthquakes?! A meteor?!!
Is this... is this some sort of prank?
She hurriedly changed the channel, yet every channel was telling the same news!
Athena hurriedly dialed her uncle's number, hoping he would pick up. After all, the news relayed that a meteorite crashed into Z city!
Just what was happening?
While the call was ringing, Athena's mind was going blank.
After dialing a few times, her uncle finally picked up the phone.
"Athena dear! Are you okay?!"
"Uncle! I'm fine, where are you?"
"Athena, I'm on a flight back, I was in R Country and heard the news. I'm rushing back now!"
"What about Auntie? Is Auntie with you?!"
"No, No she isn't! She's still in Z city! Athena, sit there and don't move! I'm coming as soon as the flights start!"
"Sit back?! Uncle, how can I sit back?! Who knows how long the airline will be out? Uncle, I'm going to Z city for Auntie now!"
"What!? Athena, don't-"
Athena abruptly cut off the phone and grabbed her bag. She didn't even change her clothes and rushed outside.
As soon as she reached the streets, she saw people hurrying in their houses. Panic had already ensued.
Not caring for her own safety and not thinking about anything, she ran opposite to the crowd towards the Railway lines to rush to City Z.
Her phone was repeatedly ringing, the word 'Uncle' flashing on it. But she ignored everything and ran continuously towards the railway.
In her panicked state, she didn't notice the extremely loud screaming of the people around her, and further didn't notice the blazing object flaring in her direction.
Boom!!!
A huge meteorite crashed down wildly on the road, shaking the entire city!
The meteorite although crashed slightly further from Athena, the impact still made her fall far back and crash into the ground. She groaned in pain and her mind became dizzy and muddled
She slowly got up on her knees, and her eyes widened uncontrollably.
In the place where the meteorite had crashed, a huge fire was burning!
The fire burned viciously, swallowing up everything near it getting closer and closer. Athena slowly stumbled to her feet, feeling numb all over.
She felt the heat yet she did not run and just stayed rooted there. She felt a bank sensation. She didn't run-no she couldn't run.
Suddenly she saw a silhouette amidst the fire. A dark shadow slowly emerged, blending in the horrifying flames. The shadow's entire being was black, yet he revealed a pair of blood-thirsty burning red eyes, like a demon awakened from his slumber.
Athena, being stared at by those eyes, felt she was paralyzed. Even the sounds faded, and only those eyes remained in her vision...
Suddenly, someone shook her shoulder, making her regain her senses.
"Miss, please get away from here as soon as possible! We'll handle the fire!" He seemed to be from the fire fighting department.
She looked at the man near her. Then turned her gaze back to the silhouette in the fire, but it was no longer there, like it never came.
Athena was dragged back to her house as the flames were put out. The fire fighter told her to go back inside and to not come out, but she didn't hear any of it.
She staggered back to her house, shut the door and then collapsed leaning against the wall. She had no idea how she got back here.
She played the image of the vicious fire and those deep beautiful eyes in her mind. She felt scared, too scared.
Her body started trembling violently at the near death experience. After all, she was just a normal girl. Something like this will naturally frighten the wits out of her...
After a good five minutes of calming down, she remembered the situation at hand. Her Auntie was still in Z City, life and death unknown.
Her phone had been damaged, so she didn't know of her uncle's situation.
Right, now wasn't the time to panic.
She still had to go to Z city!
