13 Chapter Thirteen

"Tristen it's dinner time, come down from the tree." Jesa yelled looking up at the thick branches. She couldn't actually see him but knew he was still up high, he had yet to come down.

Tristen gave the skyline another glance. It was the highest and oldest tree on his property. It reached such great height Tristen felt like he could actually see the light outline of the Northern territory. Sighing, he leaped out of the enormous tree and retreated to his home.

He walked into the dining room and was greeted by his friends before he sat down to eat dinner. Damien was away on a business trip so his two human friends decided to stop by for a visit and cheer him up.

As soon as Jesa fell asleep Michael and Sarah had a determined look in their eyes.

"Tristen you can't keep going on like this." Sarah said. Her eye's filled with pity, Tristen growled and looked away.

"Feh whatever…"

"My friend, day and night you stay by the portal or up in that tree waiting for Rina to come…we barely see you anymore. The only time we do see you is when it is time to eat and that's if you feel like coming." Michael said

"It's just that…I have a nagging feeling that something really bad happened to her. She would have at least told us she was leaving or she wouldn't have stayed this long on the other side. It's been almost two years! Why did she have to lock us out?" Tristen huffed in aggravation.

"I know how you feel, but let's just say if-when Rina comes back she'll be in for a surprise." Sarah replied as she played with her wedding band on her left finger, a small smile graced her lips as she thought of Rina's reaction.

"I just don't get it even her family won't tell us anything." he whispered.

"Nathaniel honey we have to go now." Rina said folding her arms

"But mom can't I train just a bit longer with uncle Kacien?" Nathaniel pouted.

Rina huffed in defeat. "Fine," she said while walking towards the God Tree.

She sat on the thick roots to watch them train. God Trees were very rare. They were lucky enough to have two growing near their house. It was originally her fathers childhood home away from the palace.

The few God Trees that survived the demon war were protected in the Northern territory. They provided protection to those in need. The aura emanating from the tree purified poisonous gases and lesser demons that approached with killing intent. Demons across the nation made it their mission to destroy them. If a battle occurred and a holy person was injured the God tree would heal them as well as repel any demonic aura approaching.

Rina sighed as Nathaniel did a small flip. Even though the four Lords honor the treaty between them that is hundreds of years old, that didn't mean they volunteered information about themselves. Especially the average growth of a demon child. In wartimes humans normally didn't participate until they were eighteen years old. From what Rina could see a demon child took much less time to mature to adulthood. It was demon custom to not reveal their younglings until they were less vulnerable.

Ever since Kacien started taking combat training seriously, Nathaniel wanted to learn how to fight. But given his age Rina was reluctant at first for fear of him getting hurt. In reality Nathaniel was almost one years old but looked like he was a four year old human boy…well with his concealment spell he did. Rina had to conceal all of Nathaniel's demonic features including his claws, pointy ears and demonic markings.

'Like his father' she thought warily.

He looked exactly like his father, but his eyes. He inherited them from her with specks of gold around the edges. She couldn't risk the knowledge of his heritage coming out before she was ready. A holy person producing a demonic child was unheard of.

Her hands trembled as heat flushed to her core. As soon as a stray thought went to Damien her body reacted. The pleasure he invoked in her body made her shudder. Her thoughts fluxed between her denial of her want to understanding why there was a point she welcomed his touch.

The reaction was progressively becoming worse with time. She wasn't how much more she could take.

"Mom, I'm done for now where do you want to go?" Nathaniel asked.

Rina giggled in reaction. He was so mature when he spoke sometimes Rina felt like she was the child and he was the adult.

Confused by her reaction he tilted his head to the side. "What's so funny?"

"Nothing…now let's go get you fitted for some training outfits!"
