1 My Professor is a Demon

1. My Professor is a Demon

"Hey, are you all right?" I heard my best friend's voice beside me. I didn't take a peek at her face. She's clearly concerned about me, but I can't look at her right now. Especially when my face is etched with fear. Especially, when I know that thing, that monster is staring at me...

I can sense his eyes on me. His abnormal crimson eyes, almost like a vampire, watching me carefully, slowly, like a predator watching his prey.

"You look pale..." She said, looking at my complexion. "Why don't I bring you to the infirmary huh?" She asked, but I shook my head, telling her no.

My friend frowned, "Why not? You can rest there if you want."

"I-I can't go there. I just can't..." My entire body trembled as I answered, my palms sweating like a waterfall because of fear.

I can feel Mavery's confusion as she looked at me with worry. She didn't know why I was acting like this. She must thought that this morning I looked fine, but now I looked like I saw a ghost.

Well indeed everything went fine for me this morning. But that was until I saw his face. His abnormally devilishly handsome face.

When I saw him my subconscious was yelling at my body to run. To take action and bolt to the door. But I couldn't move. I can't leave in the middle of a class discussion. But now there was no one else left in the classroom but me, Mavery and our professor who was gathering his stuff.

I've got to leave this classroom now... I have to get the fuck out of this university... Away from him. Away from his watching eyes.

But my limbs have become useless so unexpectedly, they wouldn't listen to my commands even if I wanted them to.

Mavery sighed and stood up, offering her hand towards me to help me up. I look at her in wonder. Mavery gave me a look.

"C'mon, Alice, don't be stubborn." She said, giving me her hand. "Take it. I'll take you to the infirmary."

I leaned away and shook my head, "Don't bother. I'm not going to the infirmary. I'm going home..."

Mavery looked at me like I had lost my mind. I know what she was thinking. It was Monday, and we still have classes left for the whole day in fact. And I wanted to go home? Just like that? The me she knew who was obsessed with grades was going to skip school? Ridiculous right?

"Alice, this is not highschool anymore. This is college. Why would you-" she stopped, "You know, we still have another class with Sir Liam this afternoon, right?"

Sir Liam's class was important. But I couldn't care less about it because I wanted to go home.

I nodded. "Yes, I know."

"Then why?" Mavery obviously couldn't understand why I was doing this. But I can't tell her the reason why.

"I-I just don't feel like doing to his class today." I said but Mavery didn't buy my poor excuse.

"I've known you for 5 whole years, Alice. You can't expect me to believe that overly farfetched lie of yours."

I sighed. She knows me too well. I really can't lie to her. "Mave, please believe me just this once, okay?" She didn't respond. "Please...?"

She crossed her arms in front of her chest, "What's going on, Ally. Tell me."

"I-I…" I can't tell her. I can't involve her in this. This is my problem. I have to take care of it on my own. "I just want to go home. Take a break, that's all..."

Mavery stared at me and didn't say anything.

"You sure you're going to skip class?" She asked and I know that she's determining whether I was serious about my decision or not.

Before, whenever I miss a class or an assignment I look like I've lost the lottery. But now, I was different. Why? Because she does not know that apart from the fear of receiving an unsatisfactory grade and my parents' disappointment, I was also afraid of death. I didn't want to die...

"Okay, all right. You win." Mavery sighed and gave up.

I breathe a sigh of relief and smiled, "Thank you." I stood up and quickly give her a kiss on the cheeks. I really love her. "You're the best, Mave..."

I can still remember when I started to avoid anything related to death. That's why I decided to be a teacher rather than becoming a medical doctor like my parents.

I didn't know how this fear sprouted from. But I just woke up the next day, dreaming of me falling to my death from a high place wearing a hospital gown.

The dream felt so surreal that right after I dreamt of it. I started getting afraid of anything that was related to my parent's occupation. I never visited their work place ever again and I stopped aspiring to be a doctor.

"Yeah, yeah. Now, I'm the best." Mavery rolled her eyes at me, "Whatever. I can't stop you anyway." She said.

I look at the teacher's desk and no one was there. He's gone…

I suddenly felt relieved knowing that he left even though I didn't see or hear him leave the classroom.

Without another word, I started stuffing my things inside my bag. I gotta go. "Text me if something else important comes up, okay?" I told her.

"Important?" Mavery lifted her eyebrows inquisitively towards me, watching me pack my things. "By important you mean...?"

"Yeah. Like assignments and stuff."

She smirked. "Sure. Who else is going to do it for you other than me." She joked and I chuckled, shaking my head.

"Don't forget the notes too." I added. "And if they ask about me-"

"Yeah, yeah, I'll tell them that you're sick. I know..."

After zipping my bag close, I hugged her, feeling thankful for having a friend like her in my life. "I'm going to text you later."

"Yeah, you do that. Or else I roast your ass." She threatened and I laughed. She won't do it literally but she'll definitely make me suffer in more ways than one.

"Got it."

I quickly left the room, leaving my bestfriend inside since she has to finish her essay before she goes to the cafeteria for lunch. I felt goose bumps growing from under my skin as I walked through the hallways. I've got to get out of here, quick!

I raced down the stairs as quickly as I could when I heard a voice saying behind me.

"Running away, I see..." Crap!

I froze and cursed inside my mind.

I didn't dare turn around to see the person's face. Not because I didn't know who it was. But because I was terrified.

I remember that cold baritone voice very well. I dreaded the thought of confirming my guess because I recognize that voice. I recognize that cold baritone voice...

It was the same. The same voice that does the best lectures on campus. No other person in this university has that kind of voice because it belongs to the youngest professor of Heathland University which is also my world history teacher, the person with those scary pair of crimson eyes I feared so much.

The person hunting me down...

Yes. The person standing behind me was Professor Liam James Moriarty, the one with the terrifying pair of crimson eyes I was afraid to look at. The one who is tracking me down like a hunter. The one who I discovered by accident... that he was a, in fact, demon.
