Chapter 4 (3): A new pet

I went into the den, and came across the wyvern's nest pretty quickly. There was an egg, and it was shaking a good amount. After a bit, it cracked open, and a small yellow lizard, maybe 30 cm from its snout to the tip of its tail, crawled out, looked around, then lunged at me, ripped open my uniform, and started to suck on my nipple, drawing a bit of blood and a lot of milk. I carried it like that out of the den, much to the amusement of the others.

"I think it considers me to be its mother. I got there as it broke out of its egg, and so... Well, there are some wyvern riders in some areas, so I think I'll be able to keep it" (Ryuu)

"Yeah... but... why is it still trying to suck on your tits, even though nothing is coming out but blood?" (Bradley)

"Uh... female Demon Lords can produce milk if they want to, even when they aren't pregnant or a mother, so I figured I might as well feed this little one, as it wants it" (Ryuu)

"I... I see... Could I try some a bit later?" (Bradley)

"Uh... no" (Ryuu)

"Why not?" (Bradley)

"Because you're a pervert who thinks with something other than his brain" (Ryuu)

With that, we began to return to the capital, and after almost three hours of walking, just before we got there, the wyvern finished drinking and fell asleep, so I repaired my shirt to hide my breasts. We went to the guild, I explained some of what happened, and got permission to keep the wyvern, because I had spatial magic, which has the summoning subset (which is different from a derivative element in that all users of spatial magic can learn summoning magic) so I could have her hidden in a pocket space, like storage, but without the timestop aspect, and summon her when needed. By the way, I checked at the guild, so I know that the wyvern is a female. For the subjugation of two greater wyverns, the party got six large gold coins, four of which were forced onto me because I was the only one who did much of anything besides Ninya's finishing of one of them, which wasn't needed. I eventually managed to get them to only give me three and a good meal, and have them spend some time looking for someone who could help me raise and train my new wyvern, who I named Verene, or Ver for short.

After that, I went back to the school, talked to the headmistress, and got permission for her to stay in my room with me, but the school wouldn't help me take care of her, be it feeding, cleaning, or anything like that. After that, I went back to my room, and explained to my roommates while Ver was having her second meal.

"So, how does it feel to be a mother?" (Char)

"I'm not sure yet, I've only had this feeling for a few hours. Ask me again in a few days... hmm... I don't actually know how fast she's going to grow, or how often she's going to need to be fed. I should look that up" (Ryuu)

"How? I've never heard of books you could just find somewhere that talk about that" (Mae)

I didn't reply, and just opened the Eternal Library to grab a few books on the subject.

"Well, let's see... here we have Of wyverns and their habits, as well as How to raise your dragon and The tamer's guide to S rank monsters. I also grabbed the guides on B and A ranks, just in case, but greater wyverns are S ranks, so I will start there" (Ryuu)

"Uh... what just happened?" (Char)

"Was that... the... Eternal Library?" (Elise)

"Yep" (Ryuu)

"But... That takes a massive amount of mana to open for a few seconds, and you held it open for a minute or more! How... how much mana do you actually have?" (Char)

"Hmm... About 500 million?" (Ryuu)

"Why did I expect an answer other than a nonsensical one?" (Char)

"Because you forgot about who I am, even despite the wyvern attached to my breast, I think" (Ryuu)

"Fair enough. Anyways, I'll leave you to read, as it's pretty important that you do so" (Mae)

The three left me to read, Ver still filling her gluttonous stomach. Seriously, how does she fit it all inside her tiny body? I decided the first thing for me to look up was the feeding of them. The answer was...

They eat meat from the moment they are born, though they also like goat's milk, if they can get it, as it's close to their mother's milk. They consume three or more times their body weight a day for the first week or two, before settling to half of their body weight a day around a month old, and it falls again at around half a year old

However... She's already consumed almost four times her body weight in milk, just in the last five hours. I guess she's more of a glutton than most. Still, it's not like this costs me anything but some of my time, so it's fine. I do need to get her to start eating meat, however, because I don't want her to be dependant on my milk alone when she reaches the same size as an adult, which is about 20 meters from head to tail. At that size, I probably couldn't keep up with the demand, no matter what I did... and her mouth would be large enough to swallow me whole, so her sucking on my nipple would be hard to do, and would be extremely comical if seen from the side.

After I read that, I just went through the entire book on wyverns and the one on dragons, as well as the wyvern and dragon sections of the S rank monster book. From there, I learned that wyverns are very intelligent, even to the point of being able to solve complex mathematical problems in their head, as well as being able to learn to imitate the language their master uses. Some of them can even learn telepathy, though that's quite rare.

They also can learn to adapt to the actions of strangers they are fighting with for better coordination, and they have specific elements they can use, just like humans, however, what elements they can use depends on what elements they are exposed to through their food. Considering that Ver is drinking what is basically my mana in condensed form, she's probably being exposed to all of the elements a lot.

They grow quickly, mentally speaking, such that they are often as smart and mature as an adult human by the time they are a year old, sometimes as early as a month or so old. They can learn to understand when they can and can't ask for food within a week of hatching, which is a good thing. It means I could take her to classes without worrying that she'd attack me or someone else while looking for food. I also learned that they tend to sleep for a few hours after they get fed, once they reach a few days old and their appetites settle down somewhat, which will make that a bit easier as well, and starting at about three weeks old, they can hunt things like horned rabbits and wolves, though only one horned wolf at a time at first. As evidenced by her not letting me out of her sight, she's quite attached to me, and she will always be able to find me if we get separated.

After learning all of that, I looked up the spell to bind her with a summoning contract, and applied it to her, creating a silvery collar with a tag bearing my name (Ryuu, not Miryuu Maou) and my face, as well as her name on the other side. The collar will change size to fit her as she grows, and can be hidden at will. It doesn't have any effect on her obedience, it just lets me know where she is, her condition, and allows me to summon her with magic, as well as the fact that the collar lets people know she's a tamed wyvern. Speaking of letting people know that, someone who tries to kill or capture a tamed beast is treated the same as someone who tried to capture or kill a person.
