5 A New Start
By the time I had woke up, the news of the baron's death had spread. Apparently, his servants who were dismissed yesterday, had arrived early this morning and found the baron's dead body in the royal palace, in the passage I had previously ventured in. I got to know of this from Adam, who informed all the members of the hotel.
This news struck town like a natural calamity. Some speculated that the baron committed suicide and some thought that the baron was murdered. Either way, none of the people were informed about the prisoners the baron kept in the royal palace.
Since I had killed the baron, I decided to take the responsibility of all these people on my shoulders. Thus, I walked towards the royal palace with the intention of becoming royalty. * Ughm, not for myself of course, but for the people. Right. For the people.
However. on reaching the royal palace, the scenario was completely different from what I had anticipated. A crowd was standing in front of the royal palace while a nobleman, from the balcony of the palace held a knife in one hand and a slave in the other. He held the slave by her hair and put the knife on her throat. The girl was screaming, and yet the crowd did nothing but look concerned.
The young man started speaking, "Now that my father and my elder brother are dead, I shall reign over you filthy mongrels! If anyone, ANYONE, dares to offend me, she won't be the only one whose life would be threatened."
The man walked out of the balcony and entered the vicinity of the street below the palace, where the crowd stood. 20 knights followed him and spread a murderous aura across the royal palace. The knights were well equipped, with an iron armour covering their body. The people were shivering with fear. They knew their lives were no longer in their hands.
The young man put his hands in the air and continued, "Meet your new baron,-"
Before the young man could continue, I spoke, "the overlord Ius!"
I stepped out of the crowd and walked towards the young nobleman.
The young man was pissed. I could see it in his face, however, what he wasn't aware of, was the fact that I could annihilate his entire army in the blink of an eye.
The young man yelled, "Guards! Kill the idiotic old man. We don't have time for this."
"Indeed 'we' do not. I do not have time to spare, and you do not have time, to live."
A batch of 5 knights stepped forward to attack me with their swords. As they were rushing towards me, I created a ball of plasma and launched it at one of the knight's legs. His right leg blasted away from his body and he lean forward due to the imbalance.
Meanwhile, I grabbed his sword before he fell, and cut his head in midair. The other four knight's were just about to cut through my flesh, but I jumped back to dodge before they could do so. In the process, I had let go of the sword. Now, with the distance I had created, I used my time to chant a short spell and closed my eyes. The spell was to enhance and harden my body, similar to a hard metal.
All four swords landed on my body, however, none managed to pierce through, the spell was complete just in the nick of time. I opened my eyes and grabbed two of the knights by their necks. The knights were trying to free themselves from my hold while the other two continually swung their swords to no end.
I bashed the skulls of the two knights together and blood splattered across the floor. With the two corpses in my hands, I faced the other knights and threw the corpses onto them. As they fell, I used my mana and created a wind spell to jump high in the air.
I landed straight onto the skulls of the two knights. My legs were covered with the blood that oozed out of their broken heads.
Looking at this the young man decided to send more lambs to slaughter. He yelled, "Guards! Finish him! I do not want to see him alive!"
The guards hesitated for a bit, after looking at what I had done.
"What are you doing?! Go kill him!"
The young man looked angry, yet deep down I could tell he was frightened. The knights heard his command, and charged towards me. With 15 blades pointed to my body, I too, charged forward knowing none of them could harm me. As the blades touched my body, they were bent by the force. At this moment, I reduced the friction between my legs and the ground to move faster.
Before the knights could move or decide what to do next, I moved behind them and twisted the neck of one of the knights. The knight fell on the ground. Astonished, the other 14 knights looked back, and stepped away from me.
To prevent further unnecessary conflict, I spoke, "Knights! I do not mean to harm you. Stay out of my way, and live."
Before the knights arrived to a conscious decision, the nobleman spoke. "Don't listen to him! He's only saying this because he's out of energy. Kill him!"
I hadn't realised it as I was busy battling, but the nobleman had ran to the balcony of the royal palace during our fight.
What a coward, I thought to myself. Nonetheless, the knight's swung their swords.

At this point the fight was too boring to enjoy. The knights were just too weak.
I spoke, "Urghhh...let's end this....Allow me show you my true power."
I chanted the spell of destruction created by lord Asura in my mind. Within the same second, I had completed the spell. The sky turned pitch black even though it was morning. No sound could be heard other than death's bell, repeating after short intervals. No one could see, except for me, due to my demon eyes.
The Asura spell was one which took a heavy toll on one's mana. Thus, I could only use it for 3 minutes. But that much time was more than enough. I ran wild across the place and killed all the knights that stood before me. Then, I walked up to the balcony of the palace to kill the young nobleman. However, he wasn't present there. I searched around for the total amount of three minutes but I couldn't find him anywhere around.
As the darkness subsided, I looked back at the place below the palace where the crowd was standing. Somehow, the knight's I had killed had disappeared as well. I knew now that the man behind this was the necromancer from yesterday. Either way, I couldn't sense anyone's life force other than the crowds. To know I had a formidable enemy so early on was delightful but at the same time, I couldn't understand why he didn't approach me. Currently, I had less mana in my body then usual, and I was at a vulnerable state, attacking now would be ideal for anyone.
I shrugged my head away from that thought and while standing at the balcony I spoke, "Now that the evil is dead from our society, I shall assist you as your new baron!"
The crowd fell silent. With what they had seen, they thought of me to be just as evil as the previous baron. However, one dwarf in the crowd started clapping. I looked closely to see that it was Vagnolin, the dwarf whose door I had fixed (and previously broken). The other members of the crowd followed the dwarf and slowly started clapping as well.
With this incident, I had become the new baron.

Just as I was about to leave the palace, a girl approached me. I could tell by her silk woven attire that she was the servant of the previous baron.
"Wait your highness! Please refrain from going out in such an attire."
I understood what she meant. I had no form of clothing on my upper body. Though in such a case, I would have to go out to buy clothing either way. Unless of course, I sent her up to the task.
"As the new baron, I demand you to buy 10 good sets of clothing. The clothing should be soft, loose and still fitting. This is my order. Use any amount necessary to fulfil it."
While bowing down the girl responded, "Yes your highness."

After the girl had left, I looked at the interior of the palace from the entrance.
A spiral staircase was present at the centre, which divided the palace into two, the left side and the right. On my left, I observed a set of red couches hinted with gold across the corners. Further left, a long hallway was present. I could see the entrance of the hallway from the angle I was standing.
On the right, I saw a large wooden table with 20 magnificent-looking seats. Further right, I could see the entrance of another hall. I looked behind me and observed that the crowd had dispersed. I closed the ten feet tall metallic door and entered into the palace.
I looked up to notice a large chandelier hung on a glass wall with the help of metal wiring. The chandelier was made up of small magic stones which emitted a bright yellow light. I closed my eyes and looked down to evade the brightness. *
After regaining my vision, I decided to walk towards the left hall, to explore the palace. As soon as I took another step, I noticed the softness of the carpet that covered the flooring of the whole palace.
I then proceeded, by looking at my feet.
"What?! This entire time I hadn't worn shoes? Hahaha...I suppose I'll buy them after the girl returns."

The chandelier was made up of small magic stones which emitted a bright yellow light. : Magic stones are look similar to jewels. They can be used for a variety of purposes when injected with mana.
