003

The next day, Lian woke up early to prepare for the day.

After all, she was going to serve the master who almost wiped out her clan.

She saw her master drinking coffee in the garden while looking at his laptop.

"More coffee?" she asked.

Jiahao looked up to see who offered. Delighted that it was his bride, he nodded. He had grown accustomed to the pain, in fact, he taught himself to endure it last night which made him sleepless.

He remained quiet as he had to finish reviewing the report. While Lian sat down beside him, quietly observing him.

After a few more minutes, Jiahao closed his laptop and stood up.

"Let's go," he casually said then left to prepare for work.

Moments later, they were on the car on the way to the company. She remained quiet beside Jiahao who was trying to conceal his chest pain.

"Do you want to go shopping?" he asked while looking at his phone.

Lian got a little confused and pointed to herself.

"Me?" she asked.

"Mhm," he nodded.

"I don't have that money to shop, master," she said.

"I thought I told you to call me by my name?" he turned to her.

"Yes, but I feel uncomfortable in calling my boss by his name," she replied.

"Oh well, whatever you want. You'll wait in my office. Don't worry about lunch, my secretary handles that," he said as he got off the car as soon as they parked outside the entrance of the company.

She followed quietly while he wondered why she was so quiet. He heard from the other housemaids that she was the talkative one. She only stopped talking too much when he arrived from his business trip.

His trustee secretary showed up when they entered the company.

"Master, the clients are here to see you. They're waiting for you in the conference room," she said.

"Alright. I'll attend to them right away. Take care of her for me," he said as he pointed to his personal maid.

"Yes, master," she said.

She led her to Jiahao's office.

"Please, wait for master here. He'll be back in about 2 hours. Tell me if you want to eat anything, use the internet if you like, take a nap," she said then left her by herself.

"Thank you," she said.

She saw Jiahao's nameplate on his table.

"Ahh, Chen Jiahao, CEO," she muttered to herself as she touched it.

"You got successful, while my clan suffered," she said.

But when she turned to the side of the office, a portrait of her was there, or more like, it was the first Chang Lian, her great great great grandmother who killed herself because of an immortal man that caused the death of almost her entire clan.

"What's your connection to her?" she muttered.

Two hours have passed and he finally finished the long meeting with his important clients. He quickly went to his office to check on his little bride.

But when he entered, she was looking at his first love's portrait. His eyes widened, realizing that it would confuse her.

"Why do you have my grandmother's portrait?" she asked without turning her gaze away from the portrait.

"That's not something for you to know," he said.

"My grandmother died because of an immortal man. She killed herself because of him. She's actually my aunt but her sister was a bastard so she wasn't acknowledged by the clan elders. Since she died young, her sister's daughter was recognized as one a Chang lady," she explained.

The pain in his chest relapsed, but it was even more painful than before which made him kneel and clutch his chest.

"I heard that my grandmother cursed him before she died. It said that she put a curse on his heart, that when he meets his supposed bride-to-be, that curse will clench on his heart making him suffer and he'll feel his beloved's hatred," she continued.

"Why? Why do you know all of that?" he asked while barely gasping for air.

"My ancestors made sure the story will be passed down. So we will never forget the monster that almost wiped our entire clan," she said.

He tried to stand up and struggled while still holding his chest.

"Now, you know who I am. What do you plan on doing?" he asked.

"I will let you feel what my clan felt," she said. "But ..." she paused.

"But my grandmother loved you then, she loved you with all her heart. Why did you do something that would make her despise you?" she asked.
