1 01- Calm Before The Storm

Deep in a lavish and seemingly enchanted forest, a pair of young children were running around the terrain. Their laughs and giggles caught the attention of nearby animals causing them to scatter and flee.

These children didn't appear to be human, you could mistake them for humans at first glance but upon further inspection their ears possessed a pointed edge at the top, beautiful and elegant looks that weren't normal for kids around their age.

Elves. One boy elf with black straight hair was running ahead of a smaller female elf with dark brown hair tied into a ponytail.

"You're too slow, Lia" the older elf boy playfully taunted his little sister.

"Slow down! You're supposed to go easy on cute girls." Lia pouted as she tried her best to catch up.

"Yes, that's true. So I don't see why I should go easy on you." He chuckled.

This statement seemed to have enraged Lia, so much so that she used her ability to manipulate air to launch herself towards her brother. "What did you say, Theo!?" she yelled while soaring and crashing into his torso.

The force caused Theoden to collapse onto the muddy ground. Laughing and teasing his adorable little sister.

"Call me cute or I'll end you." Lia tried her best to look intimidating but an adorable nine year old can only do so much.

"Huh? Hard to do that when you threatened my life." Theoden gently shoved her off of him.

They lied down on the dirty earth a looked up into the clear blue sky. The two of stayed like that in comfortable silence for a few minutes before Theoden felt a small finger poke his face. He glanced at her with a questioning look.

Lia looked at her older brother with a look of concern. "Are you sure you're feeling okay? No pain anywhere?"

"You ask me that after throwing your short body at my chest?" Theoden let out a nervous chuckle, an obvious attempt at deflecting the question.

To his surprise, Lia didn't take the bait and simply looked at him with a pleading look. Theoden sighed and slowly got up from the ground. "I'm okay, honestly. I didn't push my body to hard today, we just played a simple game of tag." Theo tried to calm Lia down.

Theo was born with a devastating illness that left him crippled for sixteen years of his life. The illness affected his entire body, leaving him in constant pain and bedridden for most of the day. It was a difficult life, nobody wanted to be around him. The other elves in his village saw him as a weak and useless kid, even his parent saw him as a burden.

He would have fallen into despair and depression if his little sister wasn't always there for him. Talking and playing simple games with him, keeping him company and even defending him from the cruelty of other kids.

In this world, your worth is determined by your abilities. The stronger you are, the more influence you have over others. Theo and Lia were part of the Aegros bloodline, a rich and influential family that's been in power for multiple generations, mainly because of the powerful abilities the family possesses.

Theo's father was the Lord of the prosperous village, most of the residents feared and respected him. So much so that they bow whenever he walks by. Theo's father, Baron, had the ability manipulate the blood of anyone within his view range. He mainly used this power to slowly torture those who opposed him and stood in his way.

He married a beautiful woman who had a kind aura that made people feel at ease around her but underneath that sweet facade was a dark and merciless woman. Vanessa had the power to manipulate and control the earth around her. She mostly used this power for petty reasons, she even launched a large boulder at a woman who didn't compliment the dress she was wearing at the time.

Lia was born with the power to control wind, since she unlocked this power at a young age, she was seen as a prodigy among her peers and her family but she never let that get to her head.

Theo was also born with a relatively strong ability but could never use it due to his deteriorating health, he had the power to summon dead spirits to do his bidding but using this power required so much energy that it would cause him to faint and fall into a deep sleep for weeks.

"Let's go back home, it's getting late." Theo suggested and reached out to grab Lia's hand.
