From Adam's perspective:
"I swear I will never see him again in this life. He won't have anything to do with me, and I swear to God, my heart will never beat for him again.
How could he say those words? I was soooo hurt, how can he look at me and call me an insect, a parasitic creature that drains the life out of him. How could he tell me that I was nothing, as if everything I ever did for him never for once crossed his mind.
Why me? Why would he consider me that disgusting, why. I had been there so much, I was worried and trying my best to help …and he only saw me as a nuisance, an inconvenience.
Why? That seems so cold of him to say that. Was he ever able to look at me and see the real person? Or was I just a bother all along, something to throw away when it had served its purpose?
I feel my heart squeeze with every memory, but I can't make it beat for him anymore. Not after this. Not after what he said. I need to release them even if it is killing me inside. I need to forget, I have to find a way, because this agony will consume me if not.
Even so, I just can't shake the question — why? Why would he see me that way? What did he mean, saying stuff like that? Why did I make him see me as nothing but a vermin? And the truth is I have no fucking clue and maybe that's what makes it all so hard.
Today, for Adam that was a wound more profound than he had ever known. He felt that the pain he was suffering from did not belong to him either, it seemed unfair; a trick of destiny which mistakenly bundled its burden onto his frail shoulders. He could not comprehend why his world is crumbling around him, why the load on his back seemed to be crashing down.As this will happen in future he never ever thought so.
The next morning, Adam woke up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he prepared for another day of school. He dressed quickly, pulling on his uniform, and headed downstairs. But as he descended the stairs, he noticed something strange. The usual warmth and cheerfulness that filled the house were absent. The atmosphere felt heavy, almost suffocating, as if a dark cloud hung over everything.
When Adam reached the dining room, he saw his family already gathered at the table. The usual morning chatter was replaced by an uncomfortable silence. As he sat down, his sister, Lily, spoke up, breaking the tension.
"I have something to tell you all," she announced, her voice calm but tinged with a seriousness that Adam wasn't used to hearing. "I've decided to do my master's abroad. I'll be leaving in a week, once I've settled everything I need to take care of here."
Adam's heart skipped a beat. He loved Lily deeply, and the thought of her leaving, of her being so far away, filled him with a sense of loss he couldn't quite put into words. But as he looked around the table, he saw that not everyone shared his emotions.
Their father sat there, his face tense, his eyes dark with disapproval. He wasn't happy with Lily's decision, and it showed. There was a coldness in the air, a tension that seemed to seep into the walls of the room. Adam could feel it, like a storm brewing just beneath the surface, ready to break at any moment.
No one spoke for what felt like an eternity. The weight of Lily's announcement hung in the air, a heavy presence that none of them knew how to address.
When Lily wrapped up her announcement, her dad's expression turned gloomy, and the room fell quiet. At last, he broke the silence, his words sharp and laced with irritation. "Lily, I just want to get why you're heading overseas this time," he pressed. "Should we always give the green light to what you ask for? Is it that you don't enjoy being here? Don't you think we should have a say in what you decide too?"
Lily seemed surprised but regained her composure. "No, Dad, that's not it. I love it here, but I need a change of scenery. I've been mulling this over for some time." Adam observed the conversation feeling more and more uncomfortable. The once-friendly breakfast table now seemed like a war zone. His dad's rage and Lily's stubbornness led to a conflict that looked impossible to fix. He understood his sister's strong will—she never changed her mind once she decided something. And even though their father had authority, Adam felt that not even the oldest brother could change her choice.
Adam sensed the morning's stress as he gulped down his breakfast oblivious to its flavor. His thoughts dwelled on the fights and emotions that had flared up at home. He grabbed his backpack and exited the house eager to escape the brewing tension. As he walked to school, Adam spotted Sam, his best friend, at their regular meeting place. Sam perched on a low wall munching a sandwich, his face lighting up when he noticed Adam approaching. "Hey, Adam!" Sam called out waving his hand. "You're running late today. Everything okay?" Adam tried to grin aiming to push the turmoil from his mind. "Yeah just got off to a rough start. Let's get going to school."
