2 What's My Rank?

(Beast Slayer Guild)

Katsuya sat in the lobby with a paper in his hand.

A couple other people were also sitting in the lobby waiting to be called to the backroom where the guild workers would scan your stats and give you a rank.

Katsuya looked down at the paper and began reading it.

{Each rank offers a different pay at the end of the month.

D-rank= 250$

C-Rank=1,000$

B-rank= 5,000$

A-rank= 10,000$

S-rank= 20,000$

Silver-rank= 40,000$

Gold-rank= 80,000$

Platinum-rank=160,000$}

He then began thinking to himself.

"Wow! How can the government even afford to pay each adventurer this much? Maybe I can become rich and famous."

He then looked towards the bottom of the paper and saw information of how many adventurers were in each rank.

{Beast Slayer Guild: We are constantly gaining members everyday so the list shown below may not be valid to this date.

D-rank: 765 members. C-rank: 442 members. B-rank= 273 members.

A-rank: 128 members. S-rank: 43 members. Silver-rank: 23 members.

Gold-rank: 8 members. Platinum-rank: 9}

"I just hope I'm not at the bottom number in my rank."

From the behind counter up ahead, a woman began reading the list in her hand.

"Okay, next on the list is…..ummm, Katsuya."

Katsuya looked up and saw a woman with black hair and brown eyes who wore a suit. On her neck was a necklace that had a guild card on it.

He then stood up and approached the counter. The woman stepped out from behind the counter and began walking towards a door that led to the back.

"The examination room will be right this way, sir."

She then opened the door and walked in as Katsuya followed. They began walking down a long white hallway. Once they reached the end, there was a large metal door with a card scanner on the side.

She grabbed the necklace and held her card up to the scanner.

A red laser scrolled down the card from top to bottom. There was a loud clicking sound as the woman pushed the door open.

She then walked in as Katsuya followed.

The door closed behind them as the women walked up to the seat and patted it.

"Have a seat right here."

Katsuya nodded and sat down as the woman pulled out a white gun looking object with a screen on top of it.

A sweat ran down his cheek as he nervously sat there. The woman noticed that he was feeling unsettled and explained to his what the device in her hand was,

"Don't worry, it's not a gun. It's a device called a statter. It helps us see your stats and overall power."

Katsuya let out a sigh of relief.

"That's a relief. I thought I was gonna die or something."

The woman held the gun-looking object to his forehead.

"Stay still please."

She then squeezed tightly. After a couple of seconds had passed, she then removed it.

The woman looked at the screen and wore a blank expression.

"What rank will I be in?" Katsuya asked.

While looking at the screen, the woman replied.

"From the looks of it, you'll be a D-rank adventurer. You can go ahead and head home now. Our office will give you a call once we have decided your ranking and number."

Katsuya nodded.

"Thank you."

He then began walking towards the door.

After leaving the building, he looked up at the sky.

"Hopefully, they'll call me soon." He thought to himself as cars drove past in the street ahead.

"I guess it's time to head home."

He then began walking down the sidewalk.

Something began buzzing in his pocket. He then reached in and pulled out his phone.

{Caller:Mom}

{Answer/Decline}

He looked down at it and tapped his finger and the answer button.

As he held it up to his ear, a voice shook his eardrums.

"Where are you?! You were supposed to be home an hour ago!"

A sweat ran down his cheek as he replied.

"Yea...I know. Sorry, I'll be home right away. Just had to do some stuff.

You know, schoolwork."

His mom let out a sigh from the other end of the call.

"That's fine, I guess. Just be home as soon as you can."

"I will. Bye, love you."

He then tapped his finger on the red button that showed up his phone screen.

"She worries too much." Katsuya thought to himself.

He then began walking.

Up ahead, he noticed police tape blocking off the area. Police cars had their light flashing as people gathered around to see what was going on

Katsuya walked closer and closer until he reached the crown. He saw the white sheets covering bodies that laid on the floor.

"What happened?" He thought to himself.

Katsuya overheard a conversation coming from two girls in the crowd.

"Oh my gosh, that's so terrible."

"How did monsters get over here anyway?"

"You haven't heard about portals? Sometimes they just appear out of nowhere then disappear. Only sometimes monsters come from them."

"Really? That's crazy."

Katsuya put the pieces together and realized what had happened.

He then thought to himself.

"So it was a monster attack, huh? My father died by one of those."

Katsuya then turned around and began walking as he planned to take a short cut.

------------------------------

Katsuya arrived at the door of his home.. It was an apartment complex, his apartment being on the third floor.

"Finally home." He thought to himself.

He turned the doorknob. As he walked in, he was greeted by a voice that shouted from the kitchen up ahead.

"Is that you Katsuya?!"

A woman came walking out. She had short brown hair, balck colored eyes and wore a yellow apron.

Katsuya replied.

"Yes, it's me, mom."

"Good, dinners ready. It's Your mama's special curi."

He then walked over to the kitchen and sat down at the table.

His mom then placed a plate of rice covered in brown sauce on the table

As Katsuya grabbed his spoon, he was stopped by his mother grabbing his wrist. She then spoke.

"Before you eat, you have to tell me what you were late."

A sweat began running down the side of his cheek. He couldn't tell his mom that he was registering to become an adventurer because he was afraid that she wouldn't let him as it was a dangerous job. Katsuya was only 16 years old and his mom had a say so in what job he got. She'd rather have him finish school and become a nurse or a policeman.

"I was doing school stuff. I told you over the phone, remember."

His mother stared at him, not believing what he said.

"What kind of schoolwork?" she asked.

"It was a research project about adventurers."

This immediately put his mother on alert.

"You're not planning on becoming one, are you?"

"O-Of course not. I mean, it's way too dangerous."

His mom let out a sigh as she released his wrist.

"Okay."

She then began walking towards the door.

"Well, I have to go pick up your sister from the library. Take out the trash while i'm gone."

She opened the door and walked out, closing it behind her.

"That was a close call." Katsuya thought to himself.

-------------------------------

After eating, he walked into his room, closing and locking the door behind him.

"You already know what time it is."

He then walked over to his bed and kneeled down. Katsuya reached his hand underneath, moving his hand around. As he took his hand out from under the bed, he was now holding a book titled "How to become a successful adventurer."

He sat against his bed and opened it up to a certain page and began reading.

{You can increase your stats with lots of training. Running and push ups for physical stats. Reading and doing quizzes can help with your intelligence.

Rule 1: Have a strict schedule.

Rule 2: Follow the schedualand do not break the habit.

Rule 3: Complete a quest at least one time a week.

Rule 4: Get regular exercise.

Rule 5: Budget your money and save up for better equipment.}

Katsuya then closed the book and slid it under his bed. He then stood up.

"Time for my daily exercise. 5 sets of 30 push ups."

Katsuya then kneeled down and got into a pushup position.

"Time to start."

5 Minutes Later….he laid on his stomach while sweating and breathing heavily.

"Feels like I almost died."

Katsuya slowly stood up and fell on his bed, face first.

"I'm going to sleep now."

---------------------------------

Next Morning…. He slowly opened his eyes.

Katsya laid still as he stared at the ceiling. He slowly stood up and walked over to his door. As he opened it, he peeked his head into the hallway.

He then thought to himself.

"Did my mom ever come home? It's pretty quiet."

Katsuya began walking into the hallway towards the kitchen. As he reached it, there was no-one there.

"Maybe, she's asleep."

He then walked back down the hallway. He opened the door to her room and peeked his head in. There was no-one there either.

He began checking every room in the house. There was still no sign of his mother or sister. The house was filled with silence. He then walked over to the living room and sat down on the couch.

"I'll watch the news for a while to kill time."

He then grabbed the remote next to him and pressed the power button.

The tv lit up and the news was already on.

His eyes widened as he heard the title.

{Two Injured By Monster Attack At Local library}

He shook his head.

"No, it couldn't have been them. Maybe, it's a different library than the one they went to."

The reporter began talking.

"The Two that were injured yesterday after noon still remain in critical condition but have been identified. The first one is Masazumi Kaguya. The second person injured is her younger daughter, Masazumi Hina."

Kastsuya stood up as he felt his heart sink. The two that the reporter had just mentioned were his Mother and sister. He ran to the door and quickly put on his shoes.

"I have to get there as soon as possible."

Katsuya opened the and walked out, closing it behind. He then began running down the stairs. One thought was repeating in her mind over and over.

"Please be alright."
