1 The Beginnings

"We present you our highest-scoring first year… Dashaun Goldhart!" The principal announced, Dash walking up to the podium and bowing, following this was applause. Once the clapping died down a bit, he looked at the principal and cleared his throat, receiving a reassuring nod from the principal before deciding to actually speak. "Honestly I don't really have any reason to be here other than my clan wished for me to come so that I'll be in a position to pursue our greater goals. But it's whatever, I'll give a little bit of information about my background."

"I'm from the Goldhart clan. We need new adventurers as part of our clan so there are a few of us here. There's not really much to say about myself honestly, I just guessed on those multiple choice questions and got lucky." He stated, it was painfully obvious how truthful he was being and the principal looked alarmed, taking the microphone from him after those few sentences and kinda nudging Dash out of the way of the podium and beginning to speak himself. "Alright… that was our highest-scoring first year Dashaun Goldhart, as you can see, the new wave of students this year has a good sense of humor!" He tried convincing all the students and parents in the auditorium.

Principal Takeni was quite a tall man and looked rather muscular for his age. At the same time his appearance was rather stereotypical for an older gentleman, a shaved bald head and an almost entirely white amish style beard. Everyone in the crowd could see he was a little bit embarrassed of how Dash went up there and ad-libbed his way into not having to give a full speech. Dash was good at being lazy and escaping situations where he had to put in a lot of mental effort. Don't get me wrong, he was trained well by the Goldhart clan, but anything other than what they taught him he put minimal effort into.

Once the entrance ceremony was over, the principal and the teachers gave all of the students thirty minutes to speak and get to know each other. Not to mention that they have to find directions to their first period due to the fact that this school was exceptionally large. Two boys approached Dash, were his fellow clan members, Arcuate and Karma. "Wassup Dashy-poo!" Arcuate said, offering a wide eyed grin and a wave.

The highest-scoring first year looked disgruntled upon hearing that god awful nickname. "I've told you not to call me that." Arcuate just chuckled and kept up that grin. "Guess I'm deaf then." He said in response, getting ignored by Dash. The other boy was Karma. He offered a silent wave and a soft smile, he simply enjoyed hearing Arc and Dash's interaction. "So, did you guys grab your schedules?" Karma asked the two, tilting his head as he waited for a response.

Arcuate nodded and started digging through his backpack, he hadn't even gotten any assignments and it was already disorganized and a mess. He looked frustrated in a goofy way. Once he got his schedule out he lifted it up to show them. It showed that for his first period he had Mr. Donovan's class on shackles. "Huh, shackles..? I think I've heard of that somewhere. Do you guys know what they are?" Karma grinned, he looked slightly demonic. He looked like that whenever he wanted to show off or had ulterior motives. This was mainly because he was a Loki, a race that was the closest thing to Demons in this world.

"Yeah, shackles are sort of like super powers, or even magic with some of them. I'm not one hundred percent on the specifics but I'm sure we'll learn about it in his class, which I actually share with you, coincidentally." He said, pulling out his schedule and showing the two of them. Dash raised his eyebrow. "Hmm."

Dash reached into his pocket, pulling out his schedule. "Nah it's not a coincidence. School systems usually group people with the same last names who are the same age together so that they can keep track of those people more efficiently. And we happen to share the same last name so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with us." Dash explained to the two of them. "Huh, yeah that sounds valid." Karma replied, a hand on his chin. "Eh I don't get it but if you say so Mr. highest scoring first year." Arcuate said, a puzzled look on his face.

"Anyways… I wonder what other classes we'll be taking, I never had any of these classes in elementary school." Arcuate said before looking down at the schedule to see his other classes. "Yeah.. second period is a language class, third period is dungeons, 4th period is Fitness class, 5th period is lunch, and 6th period I have creatures class." Arc listed off, looking at the room numbers accompanying all of his classes. "You have some fun sounding classes.. I don't have creatures or language class." Karma said in reply to Arc listing his classes off. "Hm. I have the same period sparring class but I don't have language or creatures class at the same time." Dash said, comparing the two schedules in his head.

"So uh. We have a few minutes to kill until our classes start.." Silence resonated within the group. There wasn't really anything else to talk about for those few seconds. And then Arcuate perked up, inhaling to speak. "Hey do you guys wanna see something I learned from my grandpa?" He asked the two of them, raising an eyebrow and grinning mischievously. The other two looked concerned about the sight of his facial expression. "Y-yeah sure, show us.." Karma, the more daring of the two spoke up.

Arcuate's eyes lit up once he heard this and he unsheathed his katanas. He began spinning them both in opposite directions, but before he could perform the action the warning bell rang, meaning they'd be late if they didn't get moving soon. "Eh, guess I'll have to show you guys some other time." He said with a cheeky grin. He motioned for the two to follow him to their class on shackles. The three didn't want to be late on their first day after all.
