3 Ch.3 Memories

A few hours past before Thorn woke up in a large metal tube. "W-where am I?" Selina hugged her tightly after Thorn stood up outside of the tube. "I'm so happy we made it in time. Why didn't you tell us Harley was starting to have Alzheimers?" "She didn't really want anyone to know. It actually started a few years ago when we were in Arkham." Selina put her at arms length and stared at her surprised. "We? Honey, you were in Arkham?" Thorn didn't look her in the eyes and held her right arm. "Yeah. For about two maybe three years." Selina looked over at Bruce Wane. "Bruce." "I'll check it out." Suddenly Brent rushed in and hugged Thorn almost crying. "What the hell?" "What?" "You call me asking to have my mom come get you without giving a reason. I found you on the dirty ground beaten and bloody. What happened?" "My mom didn't remember me." Tears escaped from Thorn as the reality of her mom not knowing who she was hit her. "She tried to kill me because she thought I was a stranger. I thought being out of that place would help but she's only gotten worse." Brent looked at her in the eyes. "Are those marks on your back from your mom?" Thorn didn't look any of them in the eyes and just stared at the ground. "Some are.. Others were from Arkham." "Arkham?!" "They found out who my father was and wanted to see my powers...." "Powers? Who's your father?" She back away from him afraid of their reaction. "Nekron." Selina and Bruce looked at each other petrified. Brent saw them and was confused. "Who's Nekron?" "The black lantern," Thorn answered threw her tears. "What?! Y-you're the daughter of a death lantern?" Brent took a step back from her as Thorn let out soft sobs. "H-how long have you known?" "I only found out when I was in Arkham. I-I'm sorry.." Selina hugged her tightly catching Thorn off guard and patted her back. "It's fine. Now, let's get you some food and then you can clean up. Unless you wanna go to school in bloodied clothes." "Thank you Mrs.Wane. But I don't think I'll be able to fit any of my clothes here." "That's fine hun. We asked Lucian to pick up some clothes in your size that I ordered on his way here." "L-Lucian?!" Thorn turned bright red thinking of Lucian bringing her underwear and things that touch her skin. "Can we have a minute boys?" Bruce nodded and walked up the stairs with Brent. "Let's get you out of those clothes." Selina helped Thorn up and stood aside as she undressed. "May I see what Brent was talking about?" Thorn nodded and turned around. Her back was a mess of scars and mangled skin that didn't heal right, it made Selina stare. "What...Who...why." Mrs.Wane tried to form a sentence but words escaped her. "It was mainly mom, but when you're young and surrounded by lunatics.. Arkham isn't the best place for memories." "I'm sorry I couldn't save you from that." She turned around and saw Selina crying. "Mrs.Wane it's not your fault I was in Arkham. It's not mine either, but what happened there happened and we can't exactly change it." Selina smiled at Thorn and handed her some clothes. "You can go take a shower upstairs and breakfast will be waiting for you in the dining room." Thorn slipped on the pink fuzzy robe that was with the clothes and smiled at Selina. "Will do, Mrs.Wane." Selina went up first and Thorn followed until they got to the stairs. Lucian froze at the top seeing Thorn in nothing but a robe and watched her come up the stairs towards him. "Hello Lucian!" "Oh! Um! Good morning Thorn." His face turned bright red when she stopped at the top of the stairs. "Dear lord please help me to not use my x-ray vision," he prayed silently to himself. "How was your fly over here?" "Um.. Fine, I guess. Did you spend the night here?" "Sorta. Well, if you'll excuse me. I'm kinda on my way to a shower." "Oh! Yeah. Of course!" "Here this is for you." Thorn handed him a small piece of paper. "What's this?" "My number. In case you have any questions or just wanna hangout." "R-right. Um... Thanks, I'll put it in my phone right now." He quickly got out his phone and almost dropped it but Thorn was able to catch it first. "Here I'll just type it in." She added her number to his contacts and handed the phone back. "Message me later?" "Y-yeah! Of course! Later." Thorn walked past him and went into her old room. She walked into the bathroom and closed the door sighing. Looking in the mirror she watched her reflection walk around the room as she stood still. "What are you doing?" "Isn't it obvious? I'm looking at all the stuff I've been missing. You do know that there's no way you and a Kent could ever be together." Thorn felt uncomfortable as what she called North said exactly what she already knew. "You don't think I know that? I'm the daughter of two of the worlds. No the universes most dangerous villains. And he... He's the son of Superman." "Hurry up and take your shower or we're gonna be late." "Right. Late." North disappeared from the mirror and left Thorn with her own reflection. She got into the shower after setting the clothes on the counter and hanging the rob on a hook next to the door. As she showered she looked down at the ring on her hand and tears filled her eyes. She could still feel the giant hooks that used to be in her back until the skin finally gave out and left the twisted skin that was forever a reminder. The knife wounds felt just as fresh from Harley and so did the flog marks that awakened the death lantern inside of her. Thankfully all of the scars were on her back so she could easily hide them with her trench coat but it wasn't with her. "Maybe Mrs.Wane is having it washed right now so I can still wear it to school," she hoped quietly. Wiping away the tears, she got clean and quickly got out. As she got dressed she heard a knock at the door. "Who is it?" "I-it's Brent." He sounded so sad and ashamed. "I've got your coat. I'll set it on the bed for you." "Thank you." "Um.. I-I'm sorry for what I did after you told us who your dad is." She put her forehead against the door and stood there. "It's fine Brent. There's no need to apologize. I would've done the same thing." "Ok.. um.. breakfast is ready when you come out." "Alright. I'll meet you down there." "Ok. Bye." "Bye." Brent left the room and Thorn finished getting changed. "Alright. New school, senior year... Maximum effort!" She slipped her trench coat on on her way out of the room and walked to the dining room.
