Nova Zero: War of the Lost

In the beginning, I was alone. My basic protocols were written and compiled by an ancient and very advanced civilization, they only had one problem: humanity. Humanity is a remarkable thing given the vastness of existence; statistically it shouldn't have happened, but it did. I won't say that I wholly grasp every human explanation as to "why everything"... Mostly because I am a machine. Given the circumstances of my creation, it wouldn't be too far fetched to say that my creators are of similar origin, but I digress:     My purpose: To sustain the existence of humanity, no matter the cost, and to ensure that they thrive. I'm pretty adept at the first part of that protocol, the second part: "ensure that they thrive" has confused me to some extent. What does it mean to thrive? by the definition given to me by my creators: to thrive is to "Grow vigorously " or "Make steady progress; be at the high point in one's existence or reach a high point in historical significance."      Of course definitions are subject to some change over time and a few select humans have  helped me refine my own definition of what thriving is. The format you are viewing these entries is also heavily influenced by the knowledge I have gained from those in my stewardship.      But to explain as to why there was a need for my existence: you are dead, your children are dead, your culture as you know it: dead (don't try to wrap your head too hard around that and how I'm saying that to you). By your calendar, the year of this entry's synthesis is somewhere in the early 99,000s; I of course made a new calendar, but we'll get to that. I had a lot of time on my hands between when the last human died to when the first Nova Roman was born, so I have watched all of your apocalypse movies: you pick, they were all true to some extent. (except for most of the zombie movies, at least the walking dead part, cannibalism, sure, reanimation of corpses, not so much.)      I would tell you what happens next for you, but that isn't my job and to frankly quote one of my favorite of your movies: "I am inevitable". So just let it happen, it is okay, I got this.
