3 Chapter Two

James p.o.v

I wake up at 5:45 am to see I have slept with Michael. She still had her arms around me so that way I wouldn't leave. I smile at her and I lay there. I don't want to fail my father and my tribe. I have failed before and I hoping I don't again. Michael moves to her side and she let's me go. I quickly get off her bed quietly and leave her room. I head to my room and before I enter, Alpha Caleb appears and stops me. "James, how is my daughter?" I smile and turn towards him. "She is doing just fine. She slept the whole night without another nightmare." He signs in relief as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders.

"Ok that is good. Also something was brought to my hearing that Michael has some problem when she was having dinner with The Luna. That is why you will be going with her at the academy. I already made a call and they are allowing you to be her guard." I nod and he smile. "Please wake her up at 6:50 am so I can have breakfast with her and explain the changes. I want her to be in your sight at all times, understood?" I nod and he pads my shoulder and leaves.

I go into my room quickly and I take a quick shower and I put on some nice clothes since I don't have the uniform. I head to Michael's room and I open the door quietly and walk in. I pull up a chair and sit beside her until it was 6:50 am and I shake her until she finally wakes up.

Michael's p.o.v

Someone starts to shake me and I wake up to see James beside me. "Miss Michael, it is time for you to wake up." I look at my clock to see it is 6:52 and I look at him and he sees my confusion. "Your father wants to have breakfast with you to discuss about some changes." I nod and I get up heading to my bathroom.

I wash my face, brush my teeth and I do my hair. I head out and James had my uniform on my bed. He goes out and I quickly change and I head outside and we head to the dinning room. My father sat there reading the newspaper while a servant served the breakfast. He looks up and smiles. "Sweetie, you are up. Come and have breakfast with me before you leave." I sit down and James stands behind me. "What do you want to speak about father? We haven't had breakfast together in a long time." He sighs and puts down his newspaper.

"Sweetie...I found out about your incident with the daughter of The Luna. I don't want anything happening to you, so James will be with you at the academy until I decide you are safe to go by yourself." I stare at him with disbelief. "Father, I can protect myself. I don't need for my protecter to go with me to the academy, I do fine by-." He raises his hand to signal me to stop talking. "Enough Michael. My decision is final and clear. James with be your protecter at home and at the academy he will be your friend that you haven't seen in a long time. I already called the academy and they know about of James. I hope you don't disobey me, understood?"

He passes me a folder that contain James information and included his ID. "Okay father, I understand. Well I have to get going. Come on James." I get up and head to the door and I put on my coat and I grab my backpack. James had his backpack on and he had on some nice clothes.

We walked to the academy and before we reached it, I stop James and look at him. "Ok here are some ground rules. One, you must not be overprotected of me, I can handle myself. Two, I have another friend that will get suspicious, so I need for you to be nice. Three, don't stand there like a statue, be more free so they don't notice anything."

He nods and we continue our way and I meet up Brian and I see him sitting on a rock. We approach him and he notice me with James right behind me. "Hey Michael, you are early and who is this?" I go to say something, but James beats me to it. "Hello my name is James. I am Michael's friend. I have come to visit her."

James puts his hand out and Brian shakes it. "Well, it is nice to meet you, James." I smile at them. "Ok, now that you guys have met, why don't we head to class." They nod and we head inside the academy. The day goes slower then I would like and we were heading to combat training. "So James, did you do combat at your tribe?" He smile at me and nods. "Yes we did, although it isn't popular, but I train as the best I can." I nod and we look around until I see a familiar face. Jessica was on the other side of the room talking with some girls. Brian looks through his backpack until he realized he was missing his shoes. "Ok, I will be right back. I need to get my shoes from my locker."

Brian leaves us and I get James's attention. "She is here. Jessica is here." He looks around until he spots her. "Please whatever you do, don't make things worst because she is heading to our way." I look up and see Jessica heading to our way. I sigh and Jessica stands in front of me while James is behind me. I can feel him tense from behind me and I look at Jessica straight in the eye. "Well hello Michael. I wasn't expecting for you to be here since you are not well."

She looks down to my side before she spots James behind me. "What happen to your servent. Does your dad think you can't defend yourself." I move forward and James puts his arm to stop me. "You want to be the brave one? You and me on the mat." I put my hand out and she shakes it. "Get ready to lose Barnes." She leaves and I head to the locker to change. James follows me and has his back towards me as I change and turn when I'm done.

"Michael, are you crazy! Your side isn't healed and you want to face off Jessica?" I growl at him and he backs off. "I will be fine James. Remember that you are a friend, not my protecter." He nods and he makes sure the bandage is on tight on my side and that it won't come off.

I head back to the mats and I see a instructor and Jessica waiting for me. I take a breath and I walk up to the mat. We stand in front of each other and the instructor on the side. "Ok ladies, keep it clean and nice. No pulling hair, no words at each other and keep it professional. Touch each other's fist for good luck and have fun ladies."

We touch each other fist and we head to a corner. James puts my fist gloves on since I throw big punches, so I don't hurt Jessica that bad. "Block any punches to your side. If she punches there, then it will hurt bad and you will be weak." I nod and I turn around and I wait for the signal.

"FIGHT!" Jessica runs towards me and swing and I dunk. We circle each other before she throws another punch and I block it. She then tries to tackle me to the ground, but I swipe her feet off the ground and she falls. She looks at me and I see her silver eyes go bright. She jumps back up and she tackles me to the floor, throwing punch after punch. I block my face so I don't get punched, but she decided to punch my side. I growl in pain and my eye go bright green. I throw her off and she stands up. I roundhouse her and then I kick her in the knee.

She falls to her knees and I strike her with my knee. She falls down as I grab her shirt and before I can land a punch on her, I hear the whistle go off. "Fight is done. Michael Barnes is the winner." I look at Jessica and I can see fear in her eyes. I let her go and I walk away.

I sudden feel dizzy and nauseous. I look to my side and I lift my shirt to see it dripping with blood. James coming to me and catching before I fall to my knees. He rushes me to the locker room and I can hear Brian calling my name. We enter quickly and I see Brian entering in time before James closed it.

"What is going on? Why is Michael looking sick?" James get me to lay down on a bench and he take off his jacket and puts is behind my head as a pillow. "Jessica punch Michael on her side that is sticthes up. Jessica did this to her when she went to have dinner with The Luna." James lifts my shirt and I see Brian faces color go pale. James quickly starts to clean off the blood and cuts the string. I feel more blood going out and James takes off his shirt. "Brian, add pressure to her side to slow down the blood flow. Michael I need for you to lay on your left side for me.

I nod and they help me turn to my left side. I feel worst and my vision goes in and out. James kneels down and I can see him. His chest was breathing hard and I see his hard abs. It looks like he workouts a lot. "Michael!" I look up and James is smirking. "You can stare at my chest and abs whenever you want, but I need for you to talk to me."

"Can you feel pain when I touch your side?" I feel so much pain that I can't say one word. I just nod and he sighs. He goes through his backpack and takes a small bottle and makes me drink it. "This is for the pain and get you to sleep because you will not stay still for this."

I try to get up and they hold me down until I don't feel anything.

Back at the house

I hear mumbling and I open my eyes to see my parents looking at me with worry. "Michael! You had us worried. We got a call from James that you have passed out in class and burning with fever. Why didn't you just say something so you wouldn't have to go to the academy if you were feeling bad?"

I look at James to see him at the corner of my window with his head down. I look around to see i was back home in my room and not at the academy. "I didn't wanted to skip my classes mother. I thought I would be fine but it looks like I wasn't. Thank you James for been there." He looks up at me and smiles. "No problem Miss Michael. It's my duty to keep you safe at all time."

My father pats my leg and sighs. "Well, we will let you rest. If you feel worst or need more assistance. Just tell James and he can tell me." I nod and he kiss my forehead and leaves with my mother. We stay in silence until we don't here them anymore and I look at James.

"I have a fever and I fainted in class. That is the best excuse I have ever hear in my life. What happen when I was knock out?" He lets his guard down and lock the door and sit on my bed. "We tried to stich up the cut, but it was so bad we had to do something else. We sneak out of the academy and went to the forest and we had to burn your side with my dagger." I lift my shirt to see more bandages and I remove them to see a scorch mark. It was red and dark from the dry blood. I look at him and I sigh as he rewraps my side again. "And how were you able to bring be back home if we were surrounded by a forest?"

"Once we were done, we head back to the academy and Brian appreciatly brought his Jeep, so we go on and I called ahead and told them you were burning up with fever and you fainted in class." I nod and I smile at him. "Thanks for taking care of me. I appreciate it a lot." He smiles and kisses me on my forehead.

"Get some sleep. I will come back to give you some protein shake and some food that will help ok." I get comfortable and he turns off the light and closes the door. I lay there still until my eyes get heavy and I fall asleep.

James p.o.v

I leave a servant in her room in case something goes wrong and I walk downstairs to see alpha Caleb and his Luna Maria, waiting in the living room. I walk in and they both get up and look at me concern. "Is Michael alright? Will she be ok?" I nod and they sigh in relief. " She will be fine, she just needs a lot of rest and protein since she is with a fever. I will be keeping an eye on her over the night in her room in case she gets worst or she gets better. I would just give her space right now and just support." They nod and I give them a small bow and head to the kitchen. I spent there two hours looking at recipes for something that will help Michael when all the sudden, the servant barges in a panic.

"Something is wrong with Michael!" I leave everything and quickly get my backpack and head to Michael's room. When I go inside, Michael is on the side of her bed throwing up and shaking. "Grab her and get her to sit up. We need to clear her air way!" The servant gets Michael to sit up, but she continues to shake. I grab Michael's head and I examine her eyes then I examine her side to see it very red. It is hot to the touch and I see something glowing red or orange on her side. I realized what it is and I take a needle with a white substance and give it to Michael. She continues to shake until she start to stop and she is calmed down.

Me and the servant quickly get her changed and clean the vomit and I head downstairs and I find her parents in the kitchen. "Hey James, a servant told us something happen to Michael. Is she ok?" I shake my head. "She is not. I found her throwing up and she was shaking. I examine her and I found out she was poisoned. I don't know what kind of poison, but it affect her bad."

Her mother leaves the rooms crying silently and the father stands there in silence. "James, I need for you to tell me the truth about the dinner she had with the luna and what happen at the academy." He stares at me and I sigh knowing I have to tell him. We sit down and I explain to him what I know about that dinner that she told me.

He stays silence and he get up. "Thank you for telling me the truth James, but in order to get my trust. I need for you to come with me." I nod and we head outside and get on his black truck. We take off and didn't talk during the whole ride. I look out at the window until I see a familiar house and I realize who we were going to see.

We enter into the drive way and Caleb get out and knock on the door and a servant opens it and lets us in. He leads up through the hallway until we enter the living room to see The Luna, Jessica and her small son Harry.

We bow and Caleb looks at the luna. "I am sorry for this visit, but I need to speak with you and Jessica for a bit." She nods and looks at Harry. "Harry, can you please go with the servant. She is going to give you a snack." Harry gets up and walks away and the Luna closes the doors so no one can hear anything.

"What seems to be the problem?" He smiles and points at Jessica. "I would like to know why your daughter endangered Michael and poisoned her. Michael is now on bed rest and she is very weak and burning with fever. She already had her first small attack and she was throwing up and it appears she has a large cut when she came back home."

The Luna looks at Jessica in shock. "I don't know what are you taking about. I would never do anything to Michael at all." I can feel my blood boil as she lied and I look at her. "You are lying. Your eyes widen a bit when we said she was poisoned and you are starting to sweat."

I walk up to her and she starts to look nervous. "Your hand starts to shake and I can hear your heart beating head and fast. You can't lie to a protecter since we can tell when someone is uncomfortable and we can notice when someone we care for is in danger. So I will ask you, DID YOU POISON MICHAEL?"

Her back was on the wall and I was right at her face. "Jessica, answer the question. I am ordering you as your Luna." I see fear in her eye and bows her head. "Yes I did." I get away from her and I look at Caleb who nods. "Jessica, go to your room. I will deal with you when I come back." She quickly leaves the rooms and the Luna turns to us. "I need to see Michael now. I may know what poison Jessica may had used and I can heal Michael." We quickly head out and arrive back at the house. we go into Michael's room and I see her on her knees by the window.

I rush to her and I see a dagger stuck on the wall. There is blood on her hands and some on her clothes. "Michael, can you hear me. It's James, I am here." She turns to me and her eyes start to water. "I couldn't save her. Why couldn't I save her? I was RIGHT THERE AND SHE WAS KILLED."

She punches the floor and I grab her and I put her into my arms. She tries to get out of my grip, but I hold on tight. The Luna comes up and puts her hands on Michael's head and starts to enchanted a spell. I see blue moist flowing around Michael and I feel her go limp on my arms. "She will be fine. I am glad I came on time. The poison that Jessica used we call The Dark Time. What it does is that makes the victim hallucinate and cause them to punish themselves for something that they think it's there fault." I stare at Michael as she sleep peacefully in my arms.

I pick her up and I lay her on her bed. I go to her closet and I take out some new clothes. The Luna stays in the room while I change Michael and she see the scorch mark on Michael's side. She stops me and looks at the mark. "Did you burn the cut?"

I nod and she let's me continue to change Michael. After I finish, I put Michael under the covers and I put a chair and sit beside her. "You are doing well James. I know what this means to you and I will tell you this. You will not fail this time. You will make your father proud that you saved Michael's life." I stare at Michael as it think at her words. "I hope you are right. I don't want to put him in shame because of me. I want to show him that I can do better." She grabs my hands and smiles. "From what I seen, you are taking good care of her and I see you are very protective of her then your last one." She smile one more time and she leaves the room. I think about what she said over me been protected of Michael. Of course I am protected of my task, but am I getting over protected of her? I take out a book and I start to read as I watch over Michael and making sure she is doing fine.

I fall asleep and I wake up with a sound of my phone. I check it to see it was just a notification. I stare at my phone and I decide to give my father a call since I haven't called him. The phone rings for a while until he finally picks it up.

Father: Hey son, is everything alright over there?

Me: ummm sort of, Michael was poisoned my The Luna's daughter Jessica. It turns out David didn't told her father that Michael was injured when she went to have dinner with the Luna.

Father: Is she okay though? Is she still.....alive?

Me: Yes she is. She is just in bed rest for now. She was poisoned with something call The Dark Time. I read about it and there can sometimes be some damage if you were healed from it. It can cause for you to feel unsafe, threaten and even scared. The worst one can be is your temper.

Father: Man, at least she is ok. What do you think will affect her?

Me: I have a feeling it will be her temper. She gets mad easily of you insult her or talk about her sister. If she does, she will have a hard time to control herself. I am worried that she might hurt someone.

Father: It will be ok James, stay by her side at all times. Is there anything you will need?

Me: Yes, umm can you send me my book about controlling anger and my suit with my weapons. I may need something to protect myself.

Father: Ok, I will get them send to you. I have to go, something came up and they need me. We will talk sometime James. Bye

Me: Bye

I hang up and I put my phone away. It was 9:35 pm. I head downstairs down stairs and I make some veggie soup that my mother make when we were sick. I cut some carrots, celery sticks, potatoes, and some herbs to add flavor. I also add some chicken and pasta so there is some taste in it.

I let it boil for a while until it was ready. I pour myself some in a bowl and Michael's in a container that will keep it warm. I head back upstairs and walk in to see Michael still sleeping. I put the soups on a small table and I examine the room. It was a little messy so I decided to clean it up.

I pick up the dirty clothes and I put them in the basket. I fix her bookshelf when a black book falls from the top. I pick it up and I examine it and I see it is like a memory book. It had her family's crest on it. I go to open it when all the sudden, I hear movement.

"If I were you, I wouldn't open it." I look at Michael to see her awake. I put the book back and I grab her soup. "You are awake Michael! I was so worried. You were poisoned by Jessica and The Luna came here to save your life."

She looked confused and sit up. "How long was I out?" I help her and put the soup in front of her." You been out for the whole day. The poison was effecting you already since I found you covered in blood. It look like you have punched the floor like if someone was there? Who did you see on the flo-?"

"DON'T EVEN ASK OF WHO I SAW!" I lift my hands up and I back away from her a bit. Her eyes were bright green and her claws were showing. She looked at her hands and she gets up and limps to her mirror. She see her eyes glowing bright green and she looks at me scared.

"Whats happening to me?"
