The Promised Land And Scholarly Gains

Mattheo stopped leaning onto the wall he had fallen on and stood up. The exhaustion which had once overwhelmed him also proceeded to fade as this type of magic scarce left a mark on the user.

The man who previously held all he wanted to know, was now noiselessly lying on the floor, motionless. His heart could be heard through Mattheo's beastly senses, though none of that meant anything as this person's soul was now gone.

Such is the lethality of this magic. In the human kingdoms it had only ever been used on enemies of war, and nations that had used it internally would most usually face revolts. Such a magic was just used by Mattheo. Morals aren't his game and who will complain? His werewolf followers? Certainly not!

Having finished, Mattheo began to sort the newly obtained memories. Although the spell was lethal, it was concise on what information it got. He knew everything this man had gone through in life. From the moment he was born to the day his soul left his body, everything was now for Mattheo's use.

Although he had the man's memories, Mattheo now had to focus on learning the language. He was familiar with the man's intent's and previous travels, though the comprehension of a language wouldn't come by in a day. Such powers are only given by the gods, all of which would obviously refuse should he dare ask.

10 minutes later...

Mattheo entered his crude home and began to studiy the language using the man's memories to support his learning. Entirely unlike his own language, weeks had passed before he could consider himself capable of speaking the most basic and elementary sentences. Each word spoken was like nails on a chalkboard due to its unfamiliarity. That, and well the fact that he hadn't spoken much lately. Mental commands were how he usually spoke to those he could interact with, and needless to say he was well out of practice.

Another 2 months passed before he could confidently understand the language. He had given it his all, producing phenomenal results in the brief time he studied. While learning, he would use the memories of the man named Dregor, whom of which he captured, to actively 'experience' the way people spoke it. Doing so also allowed him to gain insights into the everyday life of the man.

He had apparently been a warrior of the "Reaper Clan" and lived by himself. His life typically involved training within a well sized garrison, nested between the other buildings of a moderately sized town. The people of the town numbered in the thousands and consisted of various races. This included: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and a lizardlike people referred to as drake-kin. Although dragons existed in his old world, they were killed off long ago by the many people as a resource, and existed more in folktales than they did in reality. Such beings weren't to be looked down upon as most lived a long time. Dregor hadn't seen dragons, but in the Dark continent, ideas of them guarding the kings of the promised land were of popular speculation.

Arming yourself with knowledge is the best way to be prepared. And Mattheo knew this. Now that he knew this, he would actually be able to communicate with the entire dark continent. Why? Well the language in question is actually nameless, and simply referred to as speech due to a widespread acceptance of its usage.

Having "armed" himself, Mattheo once again pulled out the book. He traced his hand over the book's cover before opening it and taking in the written contents. The contents had slightly shocked him. Inside were orders for demon materials for a ship project. The Reaper clan was planning to build a ship sturdy enough to cross the ocean in search of a better tomorrow, using a lot of materials all varying in rarity. Doing so required strong materials as the sea was a dangerous place. Storms constantly agitated the waters rendering any and all of their previous attempts useless.

Mattheo, of course, had plans involving this project. He would make preparations to infiltrate the clan and reach the promised land! Though his infiltration would be brief. Before leaving, he would actually dominate the region he was in to achieve a proper force. Why would he waste all his dark god given talent?

If he were reincarnated as a human instead, he wouldn't even be able to reach the stage he was at now. Although his control was set from his understandings, his affinity would not be maintained so easily. Until he controls the very earth beneath his feet and the sky above his head, he cannot consider himself powerful. Strong, but not powerful.

What he needed first now was to alter his form. Being a werewolf wasn't really bad, but his potential was limited. A werewolf could only be a greater fiend at most so he needed new room. A Demon's potential is ranked by grades. A Grade-D demon, Mattheo's current form, only had the potential to dwell at the bottom, being the majority of demons. Grade-C demons were the true threats to the world, and made only up to 12.5% of the demon population. Their strength was not to be underestimated! And the last of the more typical type was Grade-B demons, these demons had the potential to become Lord class demons and generals of armies, they could usually be counted on one hand.

The final one was the Grade-A demon of which Mattheo wanted to become, they were also referred to as "Pure Demons" and could ascend when strong enough. They looked entirely human, but held a dominating strength from the moment they are created, and proceed to grow constantly. Usually when one is "born", they are unpredictable since not only is their apparence, but also their intelligence is on par with that of humans. Hated by humans for being natural calamities, and by dark gods for their unpredictability, Pure demons are an existence that were bound to shake the world they appeared in. If a dark god failed to perform well, these Pure demons usually filled the role as proxy dark gods.

Normally grade is a feature determined at creation, but he has his ways. With the time he practiced Abyssal magic in his previous life, that knowledge, accompanied by an powerful affinity for Abyssal energy, would produce monstrous results.

Now all he needed to do was practice transformation magic...

Dun dun dunnn! New chapter! How will Mattheo fare with his goals? See in the next chapter!
