Chapter one

Looking at the school I can tell I'm going to have fun here. My eyes scan the school grounds as I sit on my perch up in a tree. Being a Mea hoʻololi uila or power shifter means that I can turn into any type of animal (including mythical animals) Now I'm also a power shifter, meaning that I have powers to go along with my shifting. One of them being that I can turn one thing into another no matter the size. But with all good things comes the bad and with power comes great responsibility. That includes hiding it from the world. I have hidden from the world for 8 years. But that's all about to change. The shifter society has now sent out a rule that all shifters must go to school (unless you're too old for that). This explains why I'm stalking a school. This school is a bit Hanohano and I have to go to it. With the big windows in each classroom facing the ululaau (that's gotta be torture) to the pool and courts. (let's hope the food court is as big as these) I'm in my owl form with black feathers and white stars dotting them to blend in with the night sky. If I'm not blending in with the night sky I ruffle my feathers so the white stars don't show. My purple eyes shine in the dark as it is just before midnight. Preparing for a flight I jump off the branch, flapping my wings and flying back to my area. Landing at the clearing by a lake I land and shift back into my human form. My light brown waves are long and down to my butt. My white/green eyes search the area for the slight glimmer of my magic. Seeing it I walk forward and touch it making my house appear. Walking inside I stretch and walk up the stairs that are right by the door. Going to the right I walk into my room. Closing my door I move to sit on the stool seat in front of my bed. I start undressing and head to the shower. Grabbing my hairbrush off of my dresser on the way. Walking in I close the door and walk to the shower. Upon reaching the shower I turn it on and quickly get in. Loving the cold feeling as it washes over me, I grab the shampoo and squirt some into my hand. Stepping out of the water I begin washing my hair. After 10 minutes of taking a shower, I turn the water off and step out. Collecting all the water from my hair until it was only damp, I turn it into a ball and drop it back into the shower. Finding no need to dry my body yet I walk over to the cabinets and get out my hair dye. Giddy with excitement I almost drop the bottles onto the floor, but I stopped before that happened. Carefully walking over to the counter as to not trip, I place them standing up. This is going to be a hard choice. I want to do a galaxy look but I also want to do water, and the fire looks. Thinking it over I decided on a mix of reds, oranges, and yellows; This will be used for the firey do I want to go with. Getting right down to business I start the process of dying my hair.

"Finally!! I'm done with my hair" putting everything away I get rid of the access water and leave my room. Getting into pj's I decide to go to bed now and be rested for the long day tomorrow.

~Next Day~

My alarm goes off at 6:00 but I was already awake and moving about. Rushing up the stairs to turn off my alarm I trip and fall onto my side. I'd gotten distracted and tripped on the last step eager to stop that annoying alarm. Silently I get back up and walk to my room. Rolling my eyes I see that the reason it was on was that a squirrel had pushed some buttons. It looks up at me when I walk in and starts chattering about the noise and how it wasn't its fault. Shaking my head at the little one

" ʻūlū liʻiliʻil it was entirely you this time. See that button that your paw is on?" It nods "that made the alarm go off" Now it looks dumbstruck. Still shaking my head I look out towards the ululaau wishing that I did not have to go to school. I hold out my hand waiting for the squirrel to climb on. While it climbs up to my shoulder I start the journey back down the stairs and into the kitchen. Humming at the smell of mint cookies I go to the fridge and take out some milk.

*SNAP!*

Hearing this I freeze and turn towards the sound slowly. Looking outside I see a group of wolves through the woods. Them not having spotted me yet I quickly change my appearance. Into an older woman. Looking like a new grandma I continue taking out the cookies. Using my hearing more than my sight I move around the kitchen going on my daily business. I knew I was a bit suspicious because it was in the 6's but I knew that they would be idiots if they approached and knocked on my door. I hear them moving around having just noticed the house in the forest. I hear them shift back and groan.

*Knock, knock, knock*

I inwardly growl at them for being anywhere nearby. Putting on a confused expression I quickly call through the house that I was coming, for they were being persistent. Reaching the door I pull it open. There in front of me were 4 males and they were all Nā mea hoʻohuli Kini Canine. Gaping at them like the grandma I'm eating like.

"Why hello gentlemen, what are 4 young lads like yourself doing at my doorstep in the middle of the forest?" They look startled to see an elderly woman opening up the door.

" Uh-uh well, we got....lost in the forest." The one in the front ends shrugging. Clearly not comfortable with this truth or being confronted. Me being the old lady I'm acting like quickly invited them in.

"You boys must be hungry, why don't you follow me to the kitchen and I can serve you my famous Mint cookies. Please be quiet tho my family is still sleeping. They look even more unsure because they probably can't smell any more people in the house. Walking into the kitchen I take out 4 plates and dish out some mint cookies. Discreetly I close the door to the bathroom upstairs. I look at the boys and start the questions.

"How did you guys get lost? Why were you in the ululaau? ʻO wai ʻoe i ka honua? Makemake ʻoe e ʻaihue iaʻu? Pono wau e ʻōlelo me kou mau mākua? Ke wahaheʻe maoli nei paha ʻoukou a makemake wale ʻoe e hui pū me kahi luahine ʻilihune e like me aʻu iho? He ʻohana koʻu e kākoʻo no laila ʻoluʻolu mai ʻaihue iaʻu." I'm taking deep breaths from my ranting. They're looking at me a bit frightened with not having a clue on what I just said.

" Sorry, but I need answers before the rest of my family comes down. I don't want them to make fun of me for letting random people in."

"Uhhh well we were camping and someone here had to take a piss. A boy with red hair coughs indignantly. Smiling at his obvious discomfort.

"Why didn't you kids use your phones, it seems to me that yall are always on your phones." I shake my head but on the inside, I love making fun of the nowadays generation. I know there my generation, but I'm not like them. The one who has his brown hair in a wave and chocolate brown eyes smiles kindly at the old lady and says,

"Our parents took our phones so we could have family bonding time."

"Okayy, now why were three keiki kāne hūpō going out into the woods when only one of them needed to mimi.
