1 CHAPTER ONE: Avaline Abia Lancaster

I don't want magic, I hate taika

“Hey, Avaline Abia Lancaster, are you not going to help me here? What time are you and you’re still in your bed?”

I am in the middle of my dream when I felt that something or someone is shaking my body.

“Avabil!” I flinch and sit upon hearing my name.

Uh oh, this isn’t good, she’s already mad. I looked at my older sister and I saw on her face that she’s really mad. Without a word, I immediately stand up. There’re no words needed when she’s already mad.

I am Avaline Abia Lancaster, sixteen years old and not studying. My older sister is the one who thought me how to read and write, she’s my one and only teacher because I don’t want to go to school.

They will just train me how to control my taika and how my taika is supposed to use. They will use me until they can’t use me anymore, they will throw me away when I have no use anymore, and later on, they will kill me.

“Cut it out, Abia. Get the hell out there you’re taking too long.” I sighed when I heard my sister’s voice.

“Yes, big sis.”

That’s my sister, Acacia Adisson Lancaster, Acadil for short. Aren’t our nicknames being unique? Well, our mom gave it to us. That is one of the reasons why we cherish our nicknames the most because after all, there is only me and my older sister left in our family that will call each other by our nicknames. Our Mom and Dad also our Grandfather and Grandmother were already killed by them- by our heartless enemy.

I was born and raised here in Taikanious World the same as my older sister. In this world is where all the good mage, wizards, elementals, and other good taika users. This is the world where I admire the most. Opposite of our world is the one we fear the most, the one that rumored to have a cruel life- the Demonioum World.

That world- Demonioum World can be seen from here, Taikanious World. I walk out of my room and help my sister with our household chores, also because there is only me and my older sister there is no so much work in our house. Only a little dust and a little trash. I am the only one left here in our house especially when my sister is on her work. My sister got a nice job after she graduated from Taika’s Academy but still, something is wondering in my mind. She got her nice job without using her diploma.

I shook it off, my mind can’t think of something have sense again. After we clean our house with just a cloud of dust my older sister cooks food for the both of us while me waiting for her to finish. I used my cellphone to browse something. This is one of the most highly paid inventions in this world and luckily, my sister got one for me.

In this universe, we thought that there are only two worlds, which is the one that we know and we aware of- the Demonioum and the Taikanious. Not knowing for everything in our universe we finally have enough evidence to prove that there is another parallel universe that will lead us to the other world. The world that we never heard of, the Earth.

“Tss, nonsense. Can’t they think of something more important than this?” I murmured and turn my phone off.

Three worlds in one universe? You got to be kidding me, right? It’s impossible.

When my sister has finally done cooking our food, I arrange the table. This is always our setup when we’re eating. Two plates, two pairs of fork and spoon, two glasses with water, one bowl of rice, one bowl of our dish.

“Abavil?” I looked at my sister and put a spoon full of food which she cooked, “Do you really not going to study at the academy?” I stared at her because I thought that she’s only joking about her question but then it proved me wrong. She’s serious about her question so I put my spoon down.

“Big sis, we were already done talking about this issue, right?”

“Yes, but I am just worried. I only have a piece of limited knowledge and I can’t teach you anything.”

“It’s okay, big sis. As long as I know how to read and how to write, I guess there is no problem at all.” I answered and smiled at her. I know that she isn’t satisfied with my answer.

“It is not what I’m worried about you, Avabil. It is about your taika.” She said and then I sighed.

“I don’t need magic, big sis. I hate taika. It’s the only reason why they died. Why our mother, father, older brother, Gramps, and Mamits, died.” I bitterly said.

“Are you scared of death?”

“Of course! Who wouldn’t be?”

“Me. I am not afraid to die, Avabil. I am just afraid to left you alone in this world.” She immediately said causing me to raise my right eyebrow. “There’s no permanent things in this world or this universe, Avabil. Everyone will leave this world nor universe, everyone will die.”

“B-but- “

“Still, I don’t want to push you any further. So, you can still decide on what are you going to do with your own life. But I’ll be happy if you can go to the academy and make so many friends have a boyfriend- “

“Sis, I don’t need friends.” She stopped and looked at me. I felt a little bit guilty since her smile faded. “I don’t really need them. All I need is you.” And then I smiled when she smiled at me.

“You really are in love with me, aren’t you?”

“Whatever, big sis.” And I rolled my eyes.

In this world, I don’t need anyone else but my sister. She is the only family I have; she is the only one who can truly understand me and my feelings, she is the only one who can always be there for me no matter what happened. I don’t want anyone to be my friend since they will just leave me when there is no other choice. They will just betray me.

“Avabil,” she called me, and then I looked at her, “Don’t release too much energy when you trained your own taika, okay? It might give them an interest towards you, which is you don’t want to happen. Right?”

I bobbed my head, “I know that.”

“Good then. I’m going to leave later after we ate. I still have work, after all.” She said while smiling and I smiled at her and then nod.

“Sure.”

“Don’t pressure yourself on your training, okay? You must not break the barrier that our Grandparents built; it will be going to be a pain in the ass if it broke.”

“Yes, big sister.” I jokingly said and we laugh.

In this world, my family is well-known because of our powerful taika. When I said powerful, it is powerful without anyone doubting about it. My Mom and Dad are the head of the patrol guard of our family before while our Grandparents are one of the elders that they respect, my sister is part of a top knight. Though the people did not know about me. Well, how will they know if I myself did not let them know about me? They didn’t even saw me for once or for just a glimpse. I distanced myself from them so that they won’t be able to recognize me.

They knew that Acadil and my big brother had a younger sister but they never saw nor talked to me before. I never even showed myself to them and it seems like they did not bother about me. Well, they did me a favor for not bothering about Acadil’s younger sister. At least, they don’t have any interest in me.

After we eat, my sister left me alone at our house and I washed the plates, spoons, forks, bowls that we used when we eat. After I washed the dishes I watched my reflection on my mirror. I reached my left eye using my left hand, this is the reason why I don’t want them to meet me- to know about me. I have this cursed eye.

A different left eye from the others.

My family said that it isn’t a curse like what I assumed but instead it is a blessing for the whole family. But for me and the villagers- it’s a curse, indeed.

I shook it off and go to my room and do my actual training, meditate.

“Aren’t you going to use your taika?”

“How many times do I have to tell you that I won’t use it anymore?”

“Then what are you doing here?”

“Training.”

“For what? You don’t want to use it right?”

“Yeah,”

“Should I seal it away from you?”

“H-huh?”

“I must seal it because you don’t want to use it. And there is no point in using it anyway. Goodbye, Avabil.”

I opened my eyes, what is she thinking? I open my palm and release some energy to make my taika visible to the naked eye but… what the hell?

It isn’t working!

I repeat it again and again until I am out of breath but it’s still useless. What is going on? Did she really seal it away?

I flinch and immediately stand up when I heard our door exploded and I run downstairs to look at it.

When I saw who the person that made our door explode, I immediately paused.

A demon?

I closed my left eye while he’s still not seen me.

What the hell is he doing here?

“What do you want?” I asked without any emotion to be seen on my face. Even though I heard his creepy laugh I did not show any emotion. Is this demon crazy?
