1 I'm a What?!

Leo Green groaned in pain. It felt as if his head was about to explode. As the pain started to slowly fade away, he realized that he had no idea where he was at. Worse of all, he couldn't open his eyes, nor move his arms or legs.

Starting to panic, he tried to calm down and remember his last memory. When he did, he started to panic once more.

What he remembered, was him eating dinner at his favorite noodle shop. He was in a good mood because he just paid for the persons meal in front of himself when he was in line. They seemed short on money, so he helped out.

Throughout his eighteen years of life, he was raised to show kindness to others, as that kindness would be paid back tenfold at a later date.

Anyways, as he was eating he started to choke on a noodle. Leo couldn't get any oxygen and started to asphyxiate. He stood up from the table and brought his hands to his throat, showing the universal sign of 'help I'm choking'.

However, as he looked across the room, he realized that no one was coming to his aid. Everyone sat in their seats staring at himself choking. He even saw the person that he bought the meal for, pull out their phone and start recording the scene.

At that moment, he realized that he lived a fools life. He always lived a life of helping others, and when it was time for someone to help him, he was all alone.

When his body fell to the floor, and his vision was turning black, he only had one thought in his mind, 'If there is a next life, I'd rather be a worm or a leaf, than a selfish nasty human.'.

Coming back to the present, Leo understood that he had died. The feelings of anger and injustice at how he died were still there.

Knowing that it wasn't the best time to mope in self pity, Leo tried to figure out his current situation. Suddenly, he saw a stream of words appear in his mind.

[Endless Evolution System Activating...]

[Binding to Host...]

[Error, Host is non-flesh and blood organism]

[Un-binding from Host...]

[Un-binding unsuccessful...]

[Forced binding initiated...]

[10%... 35%...72%...99%...100%]

[Binding to Host is complete]

Leo looked at these words and was shocked. Wasn't this the app he was playing on his phone before he died? It was one of the obscure games he found, where you picked an animal, like a tiger or lion, and evolved them into a monstrous existence. There was no real meaning to the game, besides seeing the cool evolutions you could create.

However he was a bit confused, because the game system said that he was not a flesh and blood creature. He knew that in the game you could only choose animals.

Feeling a bit afraid of what he might find out, he thought the word 'Status' since he couldn't speak. He knew that in the game there was always a 'Status' area that listed the animals information.

In his mind, information appeared.

[Endless Evolution System]

[Status]

[Host: Leo Green]

[Species: Simple Leaf]

[Evolution Points: 0/1]

[Warning: Host is detached from tree. Life force is draining rapidly. Time reaming until death- 5:00 minutes]

[Evaluation: You are a Simple Leaf that is unable to move. Chances of survival are less than 0.01%.]

Leo could only silently curse for jinxing himself before his death. If only he could have said he'd rather be a dragon or Phoenix. Even the option as a worm would have been an easier start. At least a worm could move. He could only lay on the ground for the next five minutes before he was going to die again.

Leo kept his 'Status' open as he watched his life force tick away. He wished he could be like those protagonists in novels, where they become enraged at their situation, causing their hidden latent potential to burst forward, saving them from death. However, he knew that he was no protagonist, and his life wasn't a novel. A leaf didn't have a hidden bloodline any potential for that matter.

When his life force hit the two minute mark, Leo started become numb to his fate. He already died once, a second time can't be any worse. As his life showed one minute remaining his fear and panic returned. He didn't want to die again! Not when he was granted a system and given a new opportunity. There had to be a way to survive!

The Holy Buddha must have been listening to his thoughts, as he felt something land on him. He couldn't see, so he had no way of knowing what it was. Luckily, ten seconds later new text appeared in his mind.

[You have slain a common fly]

[Evolution Points +1]

[Evolution Points have reached the requirement to evolve. Would the Host like to evolve?]

[Yes/No]

If Leo could move, he would have jumped with joy and thank Lady Luck for her grand gift. Who would have expected a fly would randomly choose to die on his leaf?

He didn't know if evolving would save himself, but it was better than doing nothing instead. Leo chose 'Yes'.

He suddenly felt a warm current spread across his body. It felt like he was taking a warm bath. As he enjoyed this blissful experience, he started to feel an itching sensation. It started to grow stronger, eventually turning into a burning pain.

Leo had no way to vent, as he couldn't scream. All he could do was silently suffer through the pain. Finally after what seemed like ages, the pain stopped. Regaining a bit of sanity, Leo was able to see his new 'Status'.

[Endless Evolution System]

[Status]

[Host: Leo Green]

[Species: Simple Self-Sustaining Leaf]

[Evolution Points: 0/2]

[Skills]

[Pleasant Scent- By releasing a scent, you are able to attract small insects to your leaf]

[Siphon- You are able to absorb the energy and life force of those touching your leaf]

[Evaluation: You are a Simple Self-Sustaining Leaf. Through one evolution, you have gained the ability to survive without a tree. You have gained the skills to hunt small insects.]

Leo was happy with his evolution. He no longer had a clock counting down to his death. Plus he gained two skills that will help him gain more evolution points. Unfortunately, he still had no way of moving or seeing.

Since there was nothing else he could do, he decided that he would release his Pleasant Scent skill and hunt some insects.
