Seeing James Heathcliff standing not too far away from where she was, she found it hard to tear her gaze away from him. She was back in the village, and he was here. She softly gulped when James' eyes moved to look at the King along with whom she had come. The last time they had met, she had lied only to protect him, hoping he would step out of the castle in one piece instead of two. 

When James turned his eyes to look at the maid's body who had been beheaded a few seconds ago, Madeline's own eyes moved back to look at the scaffold. The surface of it looked nothing less than a blood splatter where the maid's dead body continued to stay there. The cruel punishment had turned Madeline's stomach sick and made her head heavy.
