The Refusal

Will shut the door behind him and leaned against the door. He looked up at the ceiling as he contemplated what to do next. His father had left him no choice. Not only had nothing changed, but the king had openly admitted that he hadn't even tried. He had only taken Will's words and tossed them aside. If he did nothing, he would be throwing away the authority that a god had given him. If he did that, he would be no better than the father he had to punish. He thought about how Maya would have reacted if she were there in that room with him. "If you were here, things might be different." She would have possibly drawn her sword on the king for how he addressed him.
