3 Bad luck and Marie

Marie woke up to the irritating sound of her alarm. "AHHH," she groaned in frustration. Nothing bothered her more than having to wake up early in the morning. Then do the same routine all over again, just like every other day. Marie let her legs fall from the side of her bed as she lifted herself.

"Oh God," she exclaimed, feeling her entire body aching.

She was sure it had to do with the fact that she had not rested much the entire month. Her day consisted of 8 hours of school in the morning and a full-time job during the evening. Sometimes even over time. She could not remember the last time she had a whole six hours of sleep. She was lucky if she got four.

It was not normal for a young 17-year-old girl to work so hard and attend school, all at the same time, but Marie was never called normal. She felt like there was no other choice for her at the moment. About two ago, both of her parents lost their jobs due to an unexpected fire. The company they worked so hard for was consumed by the fire leaving only ashes in its place, hundreds of people had lost their jobs that day. Unfortunately, amongst those were Marie's parents.

The couple then struggled to find jobs causing bills to be left piling up, a struggle to find food, and much more. Soon they found themselves in deep trouble. So Marie did what any amazing daughter would do and found a waitress job at a local cafe.

That morning Marie headed to school feeling depressed. She didn't understand why. But she woke up with a feeling that today would not be a good day. Marie had been right. First, she walked out of her house only to get rained on halfway to the school. Due to the rain, she arrived late to class earning detention from her teacher, who cared less what had happened to her. Later, lunchtime arrives, and she gets bullied in front of her lifelong crush by anorexic cheerleaders in the cafeteria for being big.

Marie was always an easy target due to being a thick girl in a school full of annoying skinny rich girls. Although being bullied was an everyday thing, Marie couldn't help but feel like a part of her heart broke every time. Especially since most of the time, it was in front of Luke. Often Marie wished Luke didn't care about her appearance and liked her for her, but who was she kidding? He probably thought the same as those rich skinny snobs.

After a long day of torture in that hell hole, everyone called a school, Marie, had to attend the unfair punishment given to her for being late, detention. To her bad luck, that took over her only free time. That was the only hour she had to eat something before work. Sometimes she wondered how she was fat, to begin with, if she barely had time to eat. Not only that, but now she had to run to work before she was late for it as well.

As she arrived, she was greeted by a screaming fest. Her horrible manager was yelling at her for being late when he needed her the most. Apparently, many had called in sick and making them be the only ones there. It was difficult to work both the kitchens and tables with no help whatsoever.

Before her shift could conclude, her manager rudely told her to work for another two hours. He complained about no one being able to be there until then, and she had been a few minutes late anyway. "You're lucky I didn't fire you," he stated before leaving her on her own. Marie was exhausted, the lack of sleep was taking over her, and if she was being honest, she dreamt of the day she could tell the prick to shove it, but she knew her family could use the money.

Therefore she reluctantly agreed. Now she is faced with the grim task of serving her high school bullies. Wich didn't hesitate to make her night hell with dumb requests and insults. Finally, after two hours of never-ending torture, Marie was able to clock out and head home.

Marie walked out to find the only light in the sky was that reflected by the moon. She checked her watch for the time to see it was one hour till midnight. Marie decided to run home, once again, soaking all her clothes in the rain.

The streets were empty. No one dared to go out at this time. Everyone knew that it was never a bright idea to walk home in the dark in this part of the city. People believed it to be the most dangerous part of all of Canada.

Mari was aware of that. This ally had the most deaths of all Canada. That is why she decided to run. As the cold rain once again soaked her clothes, Marie hurried home scared.

Just as she was running home, Marie heard what she wished never to have heard in her life. She was horrified as gunshots were heard coming from a nearby hospital. Marie tried running faster than before, but not only was it extremely difficult to see, but the rain was clouding her vision. It also didn't help that her weight did not allow her to run very fast. Looking around to make sure she was alone, Marie failed to notice a man who was also running. Only it was in the opposite direction. "Ouch," Marie cried as she bumped into the man and hit the ground.
