1 The Creature

Somewhere in the middle of an ocean, in a small, wooden boat lay a small humanoid figure. The person or thing we saw stood up shakily as if it were only recently made. As it looked out above the top of the boat, all it saw was a perfectly still ocean, the only ripples coming from the boats' rocking, as it struggled for balance. The creature tried to call for help, but it received no answer; this was because no sound was made by the creature, it had no mouth or nose to speak of. The realization of this fact somehow left the creature unafraid, as if it already knew that even if it could call for help, none would come. The creature sat down once again and waited for the boat to make landfall, but it somehow knew this would also never happen. There was no wind or waves to push the creature along, and so, the creature looked out over the side of the boat. It was then that the creature saw the bubbles rising out of the abyss, it was only then that it began to truly feel the fear, dread, and hopelessness that should have overtaken it long before it tried to call for help. These bubbles only got larger and stronger, until the sea was a mess of frothing white. It was when it seemed that the bubbles could get no stronger, that the sea itself seemed to rise in a revolt against gravity itself, and like a massive spear, the head of a whale burst through the water. The whale was a magnificent sight, its entire body breaching the water and casting a great shadow over the creature and the boat. If only for a second, the whale seemed to stop in the air and wait for the creature to see it fully before its great shadow became a shadow no longer, and the whale was falling onto the creature and the wooden vessel. The massive weight should have crushed the creature immediately, but it did not, it felt no pain at all. All the creature knew was that it was falling into the endless abyss with the whale. Then there was darkness.
