1 The beginning...
(A/N Notes: After reading some mangas and LN about people getting reincarnated as monsters and building a society or being friends with humans in a fantasy setting. I ended up wanting to know how would be a story about a monster destroying society would be like, and that's how I ended up writing this

Places away from any source of light are always feared, one can never know what would happen to them in those places, or what could be lurking in there. The more distant a place like that is from progress, the more things it can hide inside...
Deeply inside a cave system, the air turned stale without any living sounds, and only the sounds of droplets of water hitting the ground remain, the ground is covered by a thin layer of a black and dense smog
The more one went deeper the more dead and silent that place would turn, if one continued to go forward they would reach into an enormous chamber, with natural rock pillars going all the way up to the ceiling of the chamber, with countless black crystals covering the wall, ceiling, floor, and the pillars, and some of them emitted a very weak and bleak black light, but many more were opaque and broken, with the black smog leaving from the broken ones
Corrupted magic, was the name of the low-lying smog, if even a tiny amount of that smog was breathed any living being would die from asphyxia in a matter of seconds, and if the corrupted magic smog entered in contact with any exposed living tissue, they would turn black together with an excruciating pain turning the affected parts useless, and the worse was that the blackened tissues contaminated the other tissues killing the person as all their organ turned useless one by one
And in that chamber there was a small puddle, it had a consistency of a very dense crude oil, with what appeared to be veins that reached the entire chambers, and all they had in common was that those veins all went towards the crystals that emitted that bleak black light, that place was completely isolated from everywhere else, would be the start of an unimaginable nightmare...

"Chief! I think I found something you might want to see!"
"Hmm? What is it?"
"I think I just found a cave"
"And what about it?"
"Huuuuh... And it's filled with a smog of corrupted magic... I think"
"What! Everyone! Stop what you're doing! We must leave this place immediately!"
With that, all the miners in there left the place at an orderly pace. Sometime later the chief of the magic crystal mine, together with what appeared to be a civil official came back into the chamber together with three other men
"So you are saying that apparently one of your workers found a cave that might lead to a chamber filled with corrupted magic crystals?"
"Yes, and I know that you know how valuable those things are for the war effort"
"Of course, that's why the Lord permitted the interruption on the mining of magic crystal for this investigation, so we better begin before the lord change his mind"
"Yes. Alright! Men! We have the permission to open a passage to that cave!"
"Yes, sir!"
Two workers then pressed two buttons and an explosion ensued, with its sound reverberating inside the chamber they were in and the cave, an entrance to that newly found cave was opened
"Ok, you two can leave this place. And you three time to your job"
"Alright, let's go boys"
The three men who had come inside together with the chief and the civil official entered the newly opened cave corridor...
Hours later
"Man! How long is this freaking corridor!?"
"What did you expected this to be small and in a straight line?"
"Of course not, I'm just saying that this shit is just so damn long"
Then the man who was their leader, made a signal for them to stop
"It appears you can stop complain now"
They had reached a chamber, and they went back on going forward
"*impressed whistle* I never saw this many corrupted magic crystals before"
"Me too... But there's something wrong"
"Like what?"
"Can you see that there are some crystals emitting a faint black light?"
"Yes, what about it?"
"That's the problem, from all these crystals only some of them have their characteristic black light, while most of them appear to have been exhausted already"
"I see, that's definitely strange"
"Hey, you two! Come here!"
"What is it, Cap?"
"Look at this"
"... A puddle of... Oil?... With veins?"
"That's what I thought too, but look at what it does"
The leader then touched the puddle with a metal rod, and then a small smoke began to form
" "WHA!?" "
"T, t, this thing is acid enough to melt mithril!?"
"Yes, we better take samples of this place and of this thing, then go back to report it to the client"
"Got it"
The leader who had turned to give his command to his two men didn't saw as a single purple dot appeared in the puddle, then two, three, four... Many dots appeared in the puddle, then when the leader turned back to the puddle
"What the-"
The puddle suddenly jumped at him sticking to his mask and clothes as it melted them, as he screamed in pain
" "LEADER!" "
The other two tried to help their leader as he fell to his back, but the black thing that was attacking him created tentacles and swung them around, they had enough force to easily break the thick pillars with a single hit
"GUAAAAAAHHH!!!"
One of the tentacles hit one of the remaining two, making him crash into a pillar and fall to the ground, breaking his mask
"AH! ACK! *Cough* Eeeerk *Cough with blood* C, call... For... H, help..."
That was the last thing he could say before his entire throat turned black and useless. The remaining man turned and ran towards the entrance of the chamber
The black thing after melting and absorbing the leader began to lift itself, as sounds of bones being broken and rearranged echoed through the chamber, and with heavy steps of what appeared to be legs, the black thing went to the second men who were already dead by now and fell on to of the deceased body, that also began to melt in contact with the black thing
After consuming the two bodies, the black thing now had an appearance that could support itself with great difficulty, and it followed the scent of the remaining man out of the chamber. The black thing fell as it moved forward with it's two back legs, and it began to walk on four like a lizard
