6 The Moonlight

Wen Darren opened the book in the first page, he was startled to find they didn't match at all with what was there before. All the words have radically changed, this time presenting themselves in a silvery glow.

'Introduction to Magic and Practical Management of Mana.

Chapter 1: The Flow of Mana and Words of Power.

Something the reader most remember if they desire to follow the path of magic: Is that words hold power in them.

With the course of time, there have been little changes to our language. There are however, some words that stop being used, in the pursue of a more compact and efficient communication.

After many years of research and experimentation, i have arrived to the conclusion that this unused words are the ones that hold more power. It is possible that, in a time so old that no historic record survived to our days, there were mages like us who make use of this words. Is fair to assume that with the lost of their arts, this words of power fall into oblivion too.

Here i'm going to share with you some of this words, warn you of their meaning and reaction after being combined with the Mana inside you.

I warn you, you most proceed with caution. As soon as you spoke the words with the intention of making a spell, the Mana will be extracted of your body till the culmination of said spell. This process is dangerous if used recklessly, as if you don't hold enough Mana inside you to finish an already casted spell, you will fall victim of a dangerous and unpleasant effect that i, in my pursue of knowledge, have unravel too late to my misfortune.

I have chose to call this particular reaction "the compensation effect" and in resume, it means that wen casting a spell with no Mana to finish the spell, this will cause the spell to extract Mana from your own body which, as with all elementals, is made of the element you hold.

It was due to my recklessness and ignorance that i commit the imprudence of casting too many words of power in a short spawn of time, losing one of my arms as a result.

I cant emphasize enough my recommendation of finishing this book and specifically study several times the chapter 4 "Security measures and how to avoid the compensation effect" before initiating the practice of magic.'

"This, this is unbelievable. How can it be?"

"Is a simple enchantment. I sealed that way to make sure the reader knew some words of power and was cunning enough to actually try it. After all, this knowledge couldn't be granted lightly, it was needed some mount of dedication to reach it."

"You sealed it? wait, that means you are..."

"Huhuhuhu, I apologize. Forget to introduce myself. My name is Elias Moonlight, please to meet you sir..." Said the old man, caressing his long white beard hanging in his chest.

"D-d-d-d-Darren, Darren Lockwood. Wait, are you "that" Elias moonlight? discover of magic, creator of the art of enchantments, author of the best manuals and the wisest man of the kingdom"

"Calm down boy, that title was just a mater of courtesy after i shared mi knowledge with the royal family. I'm now retired"

"Calm down? you are a legend. Every academic knows about you, is impossible to read anything related to magic without your mention. Is an honor to be in front of you" Answer Darren full with amaze and excitement. He had never even dream about being in the same wagon than that Elias Moonlight. In his mind, this old man was a giant, a hero of legend.

"Those achievements are a thing of the past. After all, i found myself far too old to be chasing books looking for words and i no longer have the luxury of casting spells around. After all, i'm half the man i use to be, Huhuhuhu." Said Elias, laughing softly on his own joke. Elias was distant of what Darren have picture on his mind, but nonetheless, he couldn't help but look at him with admiration and respect.

He was after all, the reason why he had ventured in the pursue of knowledge long ago, dedicating his life to amount as much knowledge of as many subjects as he could in his life spawn.
