Milkshake day

"So where are we heading?" Nora asked.

"I'll tell you, but are you going to take that book with you?" He said.

"Yes. It's coming with me." She nodded.

"Come on, go and keep it in your room. I'll wait." He came to a halt.

"I don't want to." She said in a small voice.

Luke smiled, "Give it to me I'll keep it in my car, remember to take it back." He snatched the book from her hand and headed to the parking lot.

They met up at the entrance, "Are we going to walk there?" Nora questioned. "Yes, we're headed to Slurpies, it's down the block." He said. "Come let's go." They started walking down the road, when Nora stumbled, she regained her balance.

"Well, I heard you threw down Rachel?" Luke said looking beside him.

"Oh yes, I did. She asked for it though." Nora shrugged. She stumbled yet again and almost fell but Luke grabbed her by the arm. "Aren't you a handful?" He glared at her.

"Sorry." She mumbled. He looked down at her feet, "The laces, tie them up." He said. Nora looked down and nodded, she bent down and tucked them in her shoes. "Why aren't you tying them up?" Luke asked.

"I'll do it later, let's go." She replied.

"I don't want you to land on your face, tie them up." He said his voice stern.

"I'll tie them later." She was adamant.

"Why not now?" He was reluctant.

"Because I don't know how to tie them. Okay." She said frustrated.

"You don't know how to tie shoelaces? What are you, a toddler?" Luke said smugly. She didn't reply.

He pulled her aside by her arm and bent down and untucked the laces. "You don't have to!" Nora said pulling away her foot. "Stay put," Luke ordered. When done, he stood up and gave her a smirk.

"Thanks," Nora mumbled.

They didn't speak anything the rest of the way.

"So what would you like to have?" Nora spoke when they entered Slurpies. Slurpies was the biggest milkshake chain and it served over eighty-six different types of milkshakes, a heaven for a milkshake lover.

"Well, I would have one cappuccino milkshake. What about you?"

"Chocolate malt milkshake." She said with a grin.

She fetched out her wallet from her pocket, "Pay me later. I'll get them, go choose a place to sit." He said making his way to the counter.

She chose her favorite seat which overlooked their see-through kitchen, getting to see their milkshakes being made always fascinated her. She watched their milkshakes being prepared and when done she waited for Luke to return. He stood out in the crowd and was easy to spot. He also made a few heads turn while looking for the table, he finally reached it, with two tall glasses in his hands. "There you go." He said placing them on the table.

"You did that, so Rachel couldn't do anything stupid again, right," Nora said taking a sip from her milkshake.

"You got me. I kind of have my doubts, it's better this way, for you guys too." He said. "I have no idea what's wrong with her."

"I know, you guys have known each other for years, George told me."

"Yes." His phone beeped. "You can go back to your room now." He said looking down at it. "Nick's gone." Nora looked at him with utter amazement, "You knew? And still, you were acting so oblivious." She said slamming her hands on the table.

"It was fun, your face is too expressive, you see." He said smiling. "Anyway, so you walked onto them while they were making out." He suppressed a laugh.

"Not making out, kissing." She corrected. "Had I waited for another minute, I would have witnessed the whole thing." She said almost horrified. "But, how did you know?"

"Long story, ask Tina, she'll tell it better." He said with a smirk.

Luke waved his hand to someone, Nora turned around, it was George. He walked up to them and took a seat. "Hey, guys." He sat beside Luke. "What's up Nora?" He asked.

"Nothing new, everything's just the same," she said, taking a bite of ice-cream. "What about you?"

"I'm good." He replied.

"I'll be right back," Luke said getting up.

"So Nora, everything's fine between you and Rachel?" George asked.

"Yes. She apologized."

"Your competition, how's the preparation going?"

"It's good."

"How's your foot?"

"It recovered, now it's good as new." She said smiling. "And thanks for last time."

"No worries."

Awkward silence.

"Wow, that was good," Nora exclaimed, taking the last sip of her milkshake.

"You like it?" George asked.

"Yeah, it's my favorite." She replied. "Anyway, I got to go. Lots of pending work." She got up and took out the money from her wallet, "Can you give this to Luke, he paid for mine too."

"Why not wait for him, give it yourself." He said.

"Wish I could, but I got to go." She said. "Please can you do it."

"Sure." George took it from her.

"Goodbye, it was nice seeing you," Nora said and turned to leave. George sat there, fidgeting with the bill Nora gave him.

"She's gone?" Luke appeared again.

"You took awfully long, didn't you?" George said with a smirk.

"You are the one who asked me to do that." Luke slapped him on his back.

"I know, but man why is it so hard to talk to her? I tried everything, but she shut me out with one-liners." He sighed.

"Whoa, you're scaring me. The last time I saw you that anxious about a girl was high school." Luke said sitting down across the table. "You pestered me to get her out and also it wasn't easy to get her here, and you let her go that easily."

George didn't answer.

Fine, have this cappuccino milkshake, it will cool you down." He pushed the glass in front of George. "I came all the way here, spent my money on this damned milkshake, that I don't even like and still no result, but still you can have it." He smiled.

George sighed and took off his glasses, "Almost forgot, here." He handed the money to Luke. "Nora gave it, for the milkshake."

"Of course she did," Luke smirked and took it. "I'll leave now, you coming?"

"Yes, no reason to stay here." George got up from the seat.

"Don't lose hope man." Luke cheered him up.

"What about the milkshake, it's untouched." George pointed out.

"Yeah, cannot waste that, let's get it packed and you know to give it to someone who needs it." Luke shrugged.

"Oh my, Luke's heart of gold." George let out a laugh. Luke glared at him, picked up the glass and left before George could say anything.
