5 Detective George

Coming up on the NYC precinct's impound lot, the gateman was wearing a label 'nightwatch'.

"Shit! They must have switched early." James says to himself and smacks his hands on the steering wheel as he drives towards the gate.

Driving up to the gate, James rolls down the driver's side window and sees a chubby nightwatcher, who has an awful beard that asks, "Can I see your badge?"

"You know who I am. but here is my badge." James replies to the nightwatcher in a blunt tone and holds out his badge for proof.

"Don't be blunt with me." The nightwatcher replies with a short tone, "the parking bay is over there."

"I could arrest your ass for being verbally aggressive to a police officer." James tells the nightwatcher and pulls away to park up the Bright Calypso, Ford Mustang. Parking up the car, he shuts off the engine, puts the keys in the glove box and gets out to go into the precinct.

"You think you could arrest me?" the nightwatcher answers as she walks towards James who is pacing towards the back door to the precinct.

"Well if I remember, you're someone who is doing community service for drug dealing. Nice little deal, So unless you like the colour of orange? Go back to your post." James explains to the nightwatcher and pulls out a pair of cuffs to emphasize his point. The nightwatcher didn't reply; she just walked, quickly, back to her post.

As James walks into the precinct, he spots Connors talking to someone unfamiliar in his office. So to avoid being pulled into a conversation, James goes down the stairs into the reception square and walks up the staircase on the other side of the reception, to get to his desk, grab his keys, wedding ring and police standard Glock 22.

"James is that you?" Captain Connors questions from his open door and looks at the slim framed man standing in the dark.

"Sorry captain, I can't stay. I have bedtime story duty to attend to." James answers, looking back at Connors who's standing in the open doorway to his office.

Before Connors could say anything James had already left for the precinct car park.

"What bedtime story are you telling little George?" Connors asks, walking towards James in the precinct car park.

"I was thinking, the hostage situation of last summer or Jack and the Beanstalk? I'm kinda stuck between the two," James replies unlocking his gunmetal grey, 2012 Chevrolet Camaro.

"James he's 5, Jack in the Beanstalk is the better option." Connors explains giving James the understanding dad look, since he also has kids, older than George.

"Okay, Jack and the Beanstalk it is." James answers getting into his car and starting the supercharged V6 engine, which produces around 400 horsepower. "I'll see you in the morning Captain." James closes his door and pulls out of the car park to finally go home.

"Dad's home!" George shouts from inside the three floor terrace house as James drives up the driveway and in front of the barn door garage.

"I wonder what story he has for you tonight?" Scarlett, James's wife, questioning as she walks towards the front door to greet her husband.

"I hope it's a good one!" George says, still shouting excitedly about his Dad arriving home.

As James exits his Camaro and locks it with the key fob, Scarlett opens the door to smile and hug the dusty, oily smelling detective she calls her husband.

"Where have you been today?" Scarlett asks, looking James in the eye and not taking 'nowhere' for an answer.

"I'll tell you after I've put the monkey to bed." James says quietly. "Is Detective George ready for another case?" James asks with a smile and looks at George who's taking the last gulp of a hot chocolate.

"I'm ready dad!" George shouts and smiles at James before practically bouncing up the stairs.

"Great, go get into bed and I'll be up there in a tic." James replies and points up the stairs with a smile.

"Go tell the 'detective' his case and then tell me about your day. Okay?" Scarlett suggests and kisses James on the cheek before walking towards the kitchen to boil the kettle.

"Will do hunny, I'll be down for a cuppa in a bit." James answers and begins to walk up the stairs.

"I hope you're in bed George, I have a case to tell you." James asks as he approaches his son's bedroom door, to then knock on the door before entering. "Detective George, are you ready for the case?" James asks his son who is all ready in bed for the case to be told.

"Yes Dad. What have we got tonight?" George asks and hugs his teddy panda in excitement.

"Don't squeeze Panda that hard else he can't breathe. Tonight we have a case about an author, who got twisted and has done some awful things. He also owns a giant car collection, with cars ranging from the swinging 60s to the modern 21st century. You name it… he probably has it. But I can't find enough evidence to really dig into him… anyway George, you need to sleep. Every detective needs to be on point for the next day." James explains to his smiling child who's tucked up with a panda teddy bear.

"Dad, does he have that rare car which was stolen by murder? The one you always saw as a mechanical art piece?" George quizzes his dad and watches his dad's face light up.

"Good thinking George, there was only one Ferrari 250 GTO that was stolen by murder. Good detective work." James answers with a gleaming smile and walks to the bedroom door, "Goodnight Monkey."

"Goodnight Dad."
