1 Prologue

The forest was strangely restless, the animals were agitated, it seemed as if they were predicting that something was going to happen, the trees seemed to be desperate with howling winds that looked like blades cutting through space, and the sky, it was such an intense gray that everything around them was covered in darkness. Morgan held the babies in her arms as she walked out to meet the horse that waited nervously outside the small hut in the middle of the forest, rain enveloped the dark and misty field, which made the place even more intense and dark.

She climbed on her horse with the children, desperately trying to pack them up as quickly as possible. With trembling hands she grabbed the reins of the horse and galloped through the forest, which she knew like the back of her hand, but the darkness and the heavy blows of the rain were very deceiving. He arrived at the whispering waterfall, with the children still in his arms he pulled two protective amulets from his pocket and carefully analyzed the enormous resemblance they had to their parents, while crossing the great wall of crystal clear water, to the small cave that was there.

Everything had already been carefully prepared for the two, she excited before performing the spell, the children would be alone in a completely different world, but they would be safe as far away from it as possible, as far away from him as possible, without thinking about it she took the children inside the circle made of matrix, a rare type of grain used for teleportation and concentrated while she felt her magic flowing intensely through her body, starting from the tip of her feet and extending throughout her body, when the circle was complete she uttered the words of the spell and thought about the place where the children would be taken.

There was movement at the edge of Morgan's vision outside the wall of water, the spell had already been completed but it needed time for the portal to be finished, time that she would have to buy for the children to survive, saying goodbye she took one last look at the girls, wishing in her heart that their parents were well, and went instantly out of the cave. She turned her head to look for the intruder, her hand instinctively dragging on the hilt of her sword, waiting intently for any signs of movement.

At the first moment she spotted a small black patch slipping between the trees and spreading across the ground, as dense as oil, slowly the creature took shape, first long arms as black as oil, then a head, a torso, hips and finally legs. Morgan had grown up hearing horrifying stories about the Deucassions, a demonic being more than two meters tall, who stole all of a person's essence and left them with nothing, not even their own DNA, but in person he seemed even more frightening.

He slowly crawled across the floor and what she thought would be his mouth sketched into a trace of a smile, Morgan knew she wouldn't stand a chance against a Deucassion, but she just needed time. The Deucassion then ran towards her, one second Morgan was trying to hit the Deucassion with her sword and the next she was flying through the air to the ground, begging for oxygen, the sword getting lost in the process. Lifting her eyes she stared at large pairs of night-black orbs staring intently at her. He leaned forward rubbing his cold damp skin against her face, his voice was an intimidating and frightening whisper that seemed to linger noisily in her mind. "Where are they?"

She felt a bitter taste of hatred in her mouth as she answered in a small whisper, "he will never find them." Deucassion tilted his head back giving Morgan a wider view of his face staring at her with a hard, dark look. "Tell me where they are, or you will wish you were dead instead of what I am planning to do to you." She denied with her head and with the same look said, "fuck you." Deucassion made a sound that sounded like a grunt and charged at Morgan, his hand wrapped around her neck and lifted her off the ground throwing her a few feet forward, pain spread through her body, everything seemed to be spinning, and a bitter taste of blood filled her mouth.

That's when a small cry spread through the cave behind the wall of water, getting louder and louder and more frightened. At the same instant Deucassion turned and quickly headed for the sound of the children, she couldn't let him get them before the portal was ready. Morgan still dizzy got up and concentrated her magic against Deucassion, everything seemed to be happening in slow motion a big discharge of energy gave impulse to his body, the discharge hit Deucassion who fell a few meters from where he was, in a second he was already standing in front of Morgan.

The Deucassion leaned over to Morgan with an amused "he always gets what he wants" look, then opened his mouth and she began to feel her body getting colder and colder, every cell in her body was dying and her lungs screamed for oxygen, her throat burned with a scream silenced by the pain that radiated from every limb of her body, she closed her eyes and felt a sadness that was worse than the pain she was feeling, she had failed, and there was nothing else to do, she had failed the children, she had failed her friends, and most of all she had failed her world.

Lying on her bust, with her face against the cold and wet earth, she felt her eyes filling with tears and her body getting lighter and lighter. then an intense light formed inside the cave that sent brightness around the big waterfall and extended to the huge columns of trees, Morgan opened her eyes and sighed relieved because she knew, the portal was ready. The Deucassion looked into her eyes and it was her turn to smile, with a last breath she wished that the children would have a good life on earth and never return to that place, so they and everyone else would be safe, she closed her eyes again and the pain faded away sinking deeper and deeper into darkness.
