1 Meeting God [Rewrite]

When I regained consciousness I found myself surrounded by was endless darkness. No matter where I looked all I could see was a pitch-black abyss.

"...Where I am," I struggled to say

I'm certain I died, yet for some reason, I find myself in the dark abyss.

"What a minute!" I said with shock in my tone, "How can I be talking right now?! I lost that ability months ago!!!"

"Calm down before you give yourself a panic attack"

"Who's there?!" I called out unconsciously

"I'm the overseer of your world, but if I was to be specific you can call me God" God replied to me in a somewhat laid back tone

"What the…" I blurted out, "Wait if your God what do you want with me?"

"Simple," God said. "I'm here to offer you the chance at a second life,"

"You mean reincarnation?" I asked before another question popped up in my head, "... Does that mean I could return to my family back home?"

"I could do that," God replied, "but if I were to send you back to your original body you would die instantly. No, what I'm offering you is the chance to be reincarnated into a new world."

"Why are you doing this?" I asked tilting my head, "Or more importantly why me? I don't think I've done anything worthwhile enough to get the attention of a God."

"Your right," God replied, "but you are also wrong. While there are some specifics as to why I'm watching over you but you don't need to know those reasons. No, the only thing that's interested me about you is your story. It's intrigued me."

"My story?"

"Yes according to my knowledge on the laws of fate you originally should have lived a long happy life but, due to some resentment from the Heavens, your life has been cut short. However, even while the world around you continued to give you a hard time you continued to stay positive. Not only that but you prioritize the happiness of others rather than seeking your own happiness. This in itself is enough to provide you enough positive karma to become a saint but yet none of it reached you."

Hearing God's word I started to remember my previous life.

--------

Originally I was the son of an orphan manager and a baker, along with them I also lived with my grandparents who helped out around the orphanage so my parents wouldn't overwork themself. For years my family would run the orphanage and during that time I would see many kids come and go. Eventually, after reaching eight years old I also began working with my parents and not long afterward I became something of a big brother figure to the kids in the orphanage.

For years life was very peaceful and I got to spend my days leisurely with my family. However, one day while I was walking home from school my body didn't feel right and I lost consciousness on the road. When I woke up I found that I was in the hospital but my mind wasn't all there. When I finally knew what was going on the doctors told me that there was some abnormality in my bones. They couldn't tell exactly what it was but apparently, my central nervous system was losing its connection with the rest of my body, and if it continued my internal organs could stop functioning as well.

In short within a few months, I would lose the ability to move my body and even die. Hearing this I didn't know what to do but after a while, I accepted my fate. According to the doctor what I had was similar to other known diseases in the world but for some reason, mine was moving at a faster speed than the rest. Naturally, with how fast my body was losing its motor functions they probably wouldn't be able to create a cure in time so the chances of me recovering was close to zero.

My family was heartbroken by this but I, who had already accepted it was calm. Instead of worrying I just asked how long I would be able to control my body's motor functions. The doctor estimated seven months, and to that, I thought it was short but was still content with that.

Not long after receiving the news, I was sent home with my family after telling them that I didn't want to live the next seven months in a hospital bed and instead wanted to go home with everyone else. Seeing my stubbornness, a trait I rarely showed, my family agreed to my request reluctantly

From then on for the next seven months, I continued to live my normal life as best I could not minding the fact that as each day passed it would be harder for my body to move.

For the first month my body was heavy but it wasn't much of a problem, for the second month I lost the feeling in my left leg, next was my right leg on the third month, I lost the ability to sit up straight on the fourth month, at the beginning of the fifth month I lost the ability to use my right arm, and my left was gone at the end of the month, and on the sixth month, I could no longer speak any words before my bodies organs began to slow down as well.

Then finally on the seventh month staying awake became harder and harder with each passing day. Coincidentally while I couldn't move or do anything I wasn't feeling sad or anything instead I just felt tired like I wanted to take a nice long rest. Probably feeling my emotions my family, friends, and a lot of previous orphans could be seen greeting me every day. This brought warmth to my heart knowing all of them came to see me. With this feeling in my heart, I looked at them once more before closing my eyes for the last time.

----------

Or so I thought, now instead of getting the sleep I originally wanted, I now found myself wide awake in this endless void.

"You seem to be done remembering the past."

"Ya you could say so," I said, "...Hey, can I ask you a question?"

"Shoot I am all ears."

"What happened to my family after I was gone?"

"Your family was heartbroken as expected, but after a few years, they continued on with their lives. Your mother opened up a bakery, while your father continued to run the orphanage, as for your grandparents they continued to help your parents until they passed away ten years later in their sleep. Not long after their death, your father gave up ownership to a former orphan resident while he went with your mother. They lived peaceful lives till the very end when they followed your grandparents and passed in their sleep as well."

"That's good to hear," I said, "...So even if I chose to be placed back into my world there isn't a chance I'll see my family again?"

"Correct."

"Haa~" I sighed

"So will you be accepting my offer or denying it," God asked me

In all honesty, the offer wasn't something that showed up often. The fact that my meeting with God right now probably only has a one in a billion probability of happening.

"Is there anything I need to do for you if I choose to reincarnate?" I asked wondering if there was a catch to what I was getting myself into.

"Just do what you want," God replied nonchalantly, "I find you amusing and want to see what you'd do when given a new chance at life."

"...Okay," I said after thinking it over for a while, "I chose to reincarnate."

"Excellent," God said, "But don't expect me to let you go empty-handed. Is there anything you want to help you in the new world? Depending on the price needed to create said wish determines how much you can wish for."

"Quick question," I asked, "Will I be able to retain my memories from my previous life?"

"Yes."

"Next," I continued, "Will I have a guide or something like that?"

"Most people in the past would ask for a system type assistance or so I heard from some colleagues of mine. You can wish for that but that will be all I give you. Another option you have is rather than a system I could give you something akin to an information broker. This assistance will provide you with information in exchange for compensation equal to the value of the information. If you choose this you can still use your wish to ask for something else."

"Okay let me think."

If I choose the info broker I would get myself a decent assistance tool but that would just be for support and not contribute to my overall ability; From what I can assume the world I'll be transported to will not be earth. Most likely there is a high possibility it is going to be similar to a fantasy world.

Reincarnation means to start from birth so even if I wish for something powerful the wish will become pointless if I can't control it.

"Can I pick where I reincarnate?"

"No."

"Is it possible to wish for fictional characters from my previous world?"

"...You could but they will come with you in the form of an infant like you. They also won't have any prior knowledge of any of their skills or techniques they had in the shows since they will be reset as a blank slate."

That's out of the question if I choose that option I'll just have a baby with no life experience at all. Rather than help me it might hinder me. Babies can't survive on their own once they are born... but what about animals. Animals have natural instincts and grow up faster than humans!

"Okay, I got it!" I said making up my mind, "I wish for some beast companions that can assist me in life. I will leave the amount to you but I want them to have high potential. Also if possible I want to have a basic ability to survive in the new world. I don't know what's in store for me so I'll leave it up to you. Unless you want to give me a hint on the situation of the world?"

"I will leave that as a surprise."

"Tsk damn," I complained, "But does my wish cover all of what I asked?"

"...Just barely"

"That's good," I said releasing a small sigh of relief

"Now then this will be the last time we speak to each other in this form but I will wish you luck. As a goodbye gift, I will bestow upon you the name Tiān Qì. Live long and prosperous young man."

"I'll try my best," I said as I began to lose consciousness
