She dropped the fierceness and started to sob, but her eyes were pinched, and her hands balled to fists at her side. She kept shaking her head and muttering something I couldn't understand, but her hands came up to claw in her hair and her entire body trembled.

She really was on the edge, I realized.

Looking just as terrified as he had the moment we'd confronted her together, Erik put a hand to her shoulder, but she ignored him, hunched and shaking as she pushed words out through her teeth and tears to me.
