1 Chapter One

I sighed with relief as the clock hit 5 pm. Finally, work was over and I could begin to enjoy the weekend. Nothing crazy was planned, but I was excited to spend the weekend exploring the city I had moved to.

Walking toward my red 2018 Jetta, I couldn't help the excitement that overcame me.

New job.

New car.

New city.

New life.

I was a new person, ready to take on the world and see what life threw at me. After leaving my dead end town, pursuing a degree, and landing a great job. I was high on life.

The weekend plans are as follows:

Friday: Evening with Grace

Saturday: Shopping, for clothes, groceries, make up, etc.

Sunday: Revel in my new apartment.

Walking up to my apartment door, I found Grace already waiting for me. She was dressed and ready for the club. I'm not one to typically go clubbing, but she insisted it was the best way to meet new people. I gave in to her constant whining and agreed to go.

"Oh I'm so excited," she squealed while doing a little dance.

I smiled at her, "yeah I'm sure you are."

"Aw don't be such a party pooper," she pouted at me.

I rolled my eyes and turned to unlock my door.

"Wow I knew you said it was nice, but holy shit this is real nice." She beamed at me.

I smiled at her, "I know it's wonderful."

"Go get dressed already," she ushered me toward the bedroom.

"It's barely 5:30," I began to argue.

"Nope, I don't care. It's gonna take you like two hours to get ready, plus the club we're going to is gonna be packed. We should get there sooner so we don't have to wait in that crowd. Dress super hot, maybe we'll get in faster."

There was no point in arguing with Grace, once she began talking in her bossy tone with her hand on her hip any form of arguing would just turn into a nightmare.

I took a quick shower, and went to my closet to decide what to wear.

"Something hot," I mused aloud.

Grace was dressed in a purple mini dress, with heels so high she was much taller than normal. Her short blonde hair was cut just above her shoulders so she did little to it.

I browsed my closet again looking for something similar.

Finally giving up, I just threw on a black dress. I went back to the bathroom to blow-dry and style my long hair, deciding on wearing it in loose beach waves. To top off the look, I put on red lipstick and some black heels, nothing too tall.

I walked out of the bathroom to find Grace lounging on the couch eating some chips she found in the pantry.

She turned to look at me and her face went from excitement to a mad look.

She let out a loud 'ugh' and said, "you're so boring, all you wear is black. You look good, but blah."

"I'm not as bold as you," I replied, used to Grace being over the top. "Plus, you're looking to get laid, I'm not. I just wanna meet some people."

Finally arriving at the club and my jaw drops. Grace wasn't kidding about this place being packed. There were paparazzi, tons of people, and no parking. Thank goodness we took an Uber.

"You guys must be lucky," the driver said dropping us off.

"Why is that?" I asked, completely confused by his statement.

"You need invitations to get in tonight," he replied.

"We do?" I turned my attention toward Grace who was holding up two invitations with a big cheesy grin.

"I won them!" She exclaimed excitedly, "so surprise!"

I got out of the Uber after thanking the driver and looked at Grace completely dumbfounded.

"If you had told me this was going to be a huge event, I would've dressed way nicer."

"Ah relax, you look fine." She smiled as she locked arms with me and we made our way to the line.

I was in complete shock. Within 5 minutes I had already spotted several celebrities, and I felt way out of my comfort zone.

I didn't even want to come to a club in the first place, but now being surrounded by paparazzi trying to get the best shot of the celebrities in front of us had me on a rollercoaster.

"How did you win these tickets?" I finally asked, once the shock started to fade slightly.

"A radio show. The goal was to answer ten questions correctly, and I got them all."

"Wow," was all I could muster. "That's so insane."

"I know, I thought it was for 1000 dollars, but it ended up being these. I thought about selling them since they're worth probably a bit of money, but I figured we should enjoy them. I mean, money is great but an opportunity like this. I didn't wanna pass it up. We're only young once."

She was right. This definitely wasn't what I had in mind for a night of clubbing, but something like this—a party full of the rich and famous, wasn't something a normal person like us should miss out on. In fact, this was so much better. We'd get to experience something some people would die for. Plus, it made Grace really happy. I wasn't one to follow celebrities like she does, but she brought me for her support. And I felt a sense of comfort knowing she enjoyed my company as much as I enjoyed hers.

We finally made it to the bouncer who scanned our invitations throughly. He then asked for our IDs and let us through.

We immediately walked to the bar and sat down, which I was surprised even had empty seats.

"I haven't met you before," a man beside me said.

I turned to see one of the Lake twins. They were infamous, not only for their life altering fashion designs, but also the amount of women they've been with. I wasn't their biggest fan, and had no intention of pretending to like them now just because one was sitting next to me.

I looked around for help to see Grace had already hit the dance floor with some guy.

'Thanks for letting me know,' I thought glaring at her.

"Um," I began focusing my attention back on the Lake twin. "My friend won a invitation off a radio show, she surprised me with it tonight."

"Hmm," he smirked at me. "Interesting. So what's your name?"

"Uh, Scarlett."

I felt uncomfortable, he was staring at me like I was prey, and I didn't like it.

"I have to pee," I blurted aloud. Getting up instantly and rushing to the bathroom.

That was the most awkward, uncomfortable conversation in my life.

I waited about 5 minutes before heading back out, and when I did. I bumped right into someone, causing me to knock their drink of their hand and it spilling all over my dress.

"Fuck," I muttered. "I'm not even drunk. I am so sorry," I instantly began to apologize.

"Hey no worries miss, are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, a litt—" I looked up and saw a Lake twin staring at me, worry filling his brown eyes. "A little wet is all."

This was definitely a different Lake twin than the one at the bar.

"Are you sure?" He asked again. "I can get you a change of clothes if you want, it'll take me only a few minutes."

"No no, that's okay."

"No," he argued. "I'd be a rude host if I let you walk around with wet clothes. I'll find you a new dress and then I'll buy you a drink to make up for it."

"No—" he put his finger up cutting me off as he began to call someone, asking for a dress in my correct size.

"Alright it'll be here in a few." He smiles warmly, "in the meantime, tell me about yourself."

New job.

New car.

New city.

New nightmare.
