44 Xi Ana's Stifled Cries

The hospital room became quiet when Lu Nai He left. For a single day there were so many things that happened, but among the all the possibilities he didn't consider for it to end this way. If her accident was really because of him then he will not be able to forgive himself, the injury she suffered may not be serious but the mere fact that she was involved in an accident is serious enough for him.

Knowing that the CCTV footage files were safely saved on the laptop provided by Nai He, he didn't bother to rush in checking on it because for now the only thing that he wanted was to stay beside his wife, literally and figuratively.

While holding her hand tightly, he looked at the wedding band on her ring finger. Feeling the familiar coldness of the ring on the tip of his fingertips, a sudden thought came into his mind. If only this thing could bind her heart to him, then he wouldn't be in this constant worry that she might disappear on him one day. He kissed her hand and silently squeezed it, he can feel the warmth of her hands and he knew that he can't imagine himself without it anymore.

A surge of pain on her forehead waked Xi Ana, she opened her eyes and was greeted with the blinding light from the ceiling accompanied by an uncomfortable feeling of being surrounded with white as if she's being constantly watched. There is no other place that could make her feel this way other than the hospital.

She tried to move her left hand but it won't budge only then did she realize the man who's sleeping soundly on her side is holding tightly on her hand. Xi Ana studied her husband who's wearing a neat white shirt with his hair slightly disheveled hair as if he just woke up.

Using her right hand, she caressed the contours of his face and moved the strands of his hair that's blocking his eyes. This man has always been good to her, living with him for quite some time now made her realize that he's not how they describe him to be. He's gentle, patient, caring, and warm but today she witnessed a new side of him.

Up until today, they never had an argument nor did they get upset with each other, they've always had a harmonious relationship so what transpired today shocked the both of them.

Unknowingly, a tear fell from her eyes once again. As she felt the warmth of the liquid she immediately wiped it away, there are only few reason why she cries yet this heaviness is making her cry even if she didn't want to.

As she's busily wiping her tears, Lim Yi Sheng was awoken by her stifled cries which alarmed him. "Are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?" Xi Ana looked away rying to hide her face from him.

Seeing this, Lim Yi Sheng's heart constricted. This is the first time he'd seen her cry and the pain he felt from their fight doubled from watching her tears fall down from her black obsidian eyes.

He sat on the edge of the bed and squeezed her hand that he's been holding for quite some time now. "Ana, look at me." when Xi Ana didn't respond he squeezed one more time.

"Please.." his honey-sweet voice sounded as though he was about to cry. His plea tugged Xi Ana's heart and made her turn her head toward him.

Looking at her reddened face, his heart constricted once again he just can't bear to see her crying and in pain.

Cupping her cheeks, he used his thumbs to wipe away her tears. He asked once again, only now he used a gentle and calm voice, "Does it hurt anywhere?" Xi Ana shook her head.

"Then why are you crying?" he asked full of worry. "I don't know, it just won't stop."

Who would have thought that there would come a day that he would see the woman who's always been aloof and cold, even more than him cry with her cheeks flushed in red. If Lu Nai He would see this, he would probably cry in happiness.

While his hands were still cupping her cheeks, he lowered himself and kissed her forehead. "Promise you will never make me worry anymore. Do you know how worried I am when I received Nai He's call that you were in an accident?"

Looking at his appearance and his unkempt hair it is obvious that he came from home and went straight here without even changing. Thinking about this, Xi Ana felt guilty.

Due to her silence, his features softened asked her with full of worry about what happened, "What happened? Why were you in an accident?"

As if something clicked inside her mind and she remembered the little girl she almost hit so she asked frantically, "What happened to the child? Was she hurt?"

"Calm down, she was fine although I was not able to see her the nurses assured that she is, his father was the one who brought you here ."

Upon hearing that child was fine, a heavy load was lifted off her chest.

"Do you know who that man is?" Xi Ana tried to recall the face of the man but she wasn't able to recognize him and she knew this was their first time meeting.

"No, I don't know him but there is a high probability that he is also living in Imperial Residence, most of the customers from that convenience store were residents of Imperial." that was the nearest place to buy from their residence so she knew it very well.

"Were you speeding off?" he asked seriously, that road wasn't even congested and you have a clear view of the road unless one is speeding off it is impossible not to notice a little girl.

Xi Ana doesn't have any idea who those people are or what their intentions may be, it's like there is a reason for her to keep it a secret and after knowing that it's been quite some time since she was brought here Lim Yi Sheng would have already secured the CCTV footage.

"I was being followed. From the moment I left the company I already felt that something was not right, as if someone was watching me. When I tried speeding off, I confirmed that someone really is tailing me. I don't know for how long that happened. I was still driving at full speed when the girl suddenly ran which made me step on the break instantly and the rest was history."

Is my past really haunting me again? Will they use my wife against me? Is this how it's gonna be?
