20 Theory (20)

"So what are your thoughts about it?" I broke the silence as Cee drove back to Northwest.

"I have a theory."

"I would like to know it." I wanted to know Cee' approach on this because if I push my brain any further, I would go crazy. Moreover I hoped Cee' idea of sleuthing might help me find my own answers.

"I think Daphne knew the person who killed her. She was aware something is going to happen."

"What makes you think that?"

"Mrs. Woods observed that Daphne was so busy with something and totally isolated herself. Not to ignore the fact that, she was preparing for something as Mrs. Woods stated. So she knew what was coming to her."

"But it could be some work related thing. Maybe she got some extra work at her school."

"True but Daphne went missing on Saturday and her body was found on Monday morning. According to the police investigation, she died on Sunday around midnight which means she was alive on Saturday as well as on Sunday until midnight."

"So?"

"So she was hiding things. She knew what was happening and she made excuses to hide the fact that something was up. She leaves on Friday, stop responding to calls on Saturday and dies on Sunday night. Now the question is what was she exactly doing on friday, saturday and sunday."

Cee was right. From what we have gathered, Daphne knew what was happening and what she was doing all along.

"I think you're right. The killer was someone known to her." I agreed.

"Kat . . . I don't know why but Daphne growing all those herbs just strengthens my doubt of witches being involved in this." She confessed and glanced sideways.

I had the same thoughts. But my thoughts were much more convoluted on this one. They always darted back to me. All i could do for now is to convince myself to not think about such things. But I knew better that I wasn't ignoring it. . I was procastinating.

"That could be a coincidence Cee. Maybe she decided to grow some plants in her lawn." I tried to convince her.

"Hmm maybe . . .Do you have the info about the first victim?"

"Yes. The first victim was Paul Jones, age 33. He worked at a local thrift store." I replied consulting the information I had printed.

"Do they knew each other? Daphne and Paul?" Cee cross examined.

"No. Daphne was from south while Paul was from north."

"Are there any similarities?"

"Except the same person murdering them, there are no similarities. Also its not possible to conclude anything at the moment as we still don't have any info about Paul."

"Hmm. . . I don't know what to say, at least we got some stuff for the next week's e-zine. If necessary we can still interview Paul's family."

"Tell me, why are we digging into this so much? Is it our job to solve cases now?"

"I'm just being curious Kat, after all we do nothing other than attending school. By the way, we have a double date this weekend."

"Double date? Last time I checked it was just a casual hangout with Zach and Lucas."

"Yeah whatever. . . but are you not excited at all?"

"There's nothing to be excited about. Not to mention the fact that two dead bodies were found in the forest park, are you sure your mom will allow you to go hiking there?"

"Don't ruin my mood now." Cee whined. "I still have to seek permission from her."

"I think we should delay our plan since half of the forest park will be sealed off by the cops."

"No, it is already decided. We are going hiking in forest park this weekend and its final." Cee concluded as she parked the ford at Portland Grills. "Let's talk over food."

"Sure."

Twenty minutes later we received our order and began digging in. Not shortly after we began eating, Sophie Andrews, out of nowhere, stopped at our table.

"Oh hello losers , how are you this evening?" Sophie brushed her blonde hair back. "I hope you both are not filling up yourselves too much . . . don't forget obesity is a serious issue."

"I think you need that advice more than us Sophie, after all its you who are expanding from all sides." A grin played on Cee' lips as she mocked Sophie.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "By the way Cece, I read your article this week, it was full of bullshit just like your brain."

"Would you please move your dirty ass from here. . . we're eating." I retorted.

"Bitch." She muttered as she turned.

"Skank! " Cee shouted and everyone looked at us.

"I don't know why she even messes with us. She clearly asks for it."

"Leave her be. We have more things to worry about like for an example our double date."

"For God's sake Cee, it's no date, it's just a casual hangout kinda thing. Don't make it awkward than it already is."

"Wait. . . Did you just say awkward?"

" I did. . . Yes?"

"Why do you think it's awkward?"

"You know I am not on friendly terms with Lucas."

Cee sighed. "I'm literally so exhausted today. Please don't make me give you that boy and dating speech again."

I rolled my eyes and the rest of our dinner went in silence. When I reached home I straight up went to bed and fell asleep.
