3 Presumptions (3)

Ten minutes later, we parked into the parking lot of Portland Grills and went inside. We ordered and slid into our favorite spot which was by the window. It was a cold November afternoon, the sky was grey as the sun was completely concealed by the clouds and cold moist wind blew outside.

Inside, the lady on the counter was scrolling through her phone and occasionally writing down the orders in her notepad. Cee tied her strawberry blonde hairs in a low pony tail, with some of the hair strands hanging on either side of her face.

"I hate Sophie Andrews, she killed my whole mood today." Cee took her name, out of nowhere. It's not like we always gossip about her, she's least of our worries but Cee was right, she had killed our happy vibes.

"Let's just not talk about her anymore, I hate to hear her name."

"By the way, did you see that new guy?" Cee mentioned.

"Which one are you talking about?" I asked taking a sip of my milkshake.

"The one with the dark black hairs!" Cee mentioned, "God...his eyes were glued on you!" Cee exclaimed and I instantly choked.

"What are you talking about?" I spoke as I coughed lightly and put a hand on my mouth.

"What was his name? Umm... Lucien, Luke, yeah Lucas...Lucas was staring at you Kat, like you were the only girl in the class."

"Don't spout nonsense, Cee." I knew everything but I decided to play dumb, so as not to give her the idea, I noticed it too. "People often look at other people, that's no big deal."

"What if he's interested in you Kat?"

"He doesn't even know me Cee, I think you're just overthinking."

"True, but haven't you heard about "love at first sight". Cee chuckled.

"You need to stop reading all those romance novels, you know. Your perception is completely tainted."

"Speak of the devil and he appears." I followed her gaze, outside Zach and Lucas parked their car and were walking towards the entrance of the grill. A couple of seconds later we heard the door open and we already knew who came in.

"They're sitting on the chairs in front of the counter and are talking to each other." Cee spoke while looking at them.

I couldn't see them cause my back was facing them and it wouldn't look good if I turn back to see them, so I let Cee do all the looking and reporting part.

"Hey, should we go there and talk to them?" Cee whispered, her gaze was fixed at them.

"I don't think that's a very good idea, if they would want to talk they would come here." I suggested and sipped my milkshake.

"Yeah, but it won't cost us anything if we strike the conversation first. And don't you think it's time you start dating someone."

"Cee, we don't even know them, and you're suggesting me to date one of them, are you going crazy?" I defended.

"That's what I'm saying, if you won't talk to someone, you would never know someone, and if you won't know someone then you would probably never date someone."

"But I don't want to date anyone."

"Come on don't you ever think, how mundane your life has always been because you never dated anyone." Cee emphasized the word 'dated'.

"I think my life is perfect the way it is and I don't need a classic boy drama in it, at least not now." I folded my hands and leaned back into my seat. I didn't wanted to include any other thing in my life before I figure out the incidents of last night that exactly who placed that note in my room and how did it caught fire out of nowhere.

"Oh shit, he saw me." Cee suddenly spoke and surprised me.

"What?" I tried to turn back but Cee stopped me midway.

"No, don't turn back. I don't want them to get the idea we were talking about them."

"Okay, he just saw you doesn't mean they're coming right over here." I suggested.

"No, they're coming right over here." Her gaze returned back to me, "Okay, talk to me, they shouldn't know we were talking about them." Cee panicked.

"You're an idiot." I smirked.

"What?" Cee asked dumbfounded.

"Hey, would you mind if we join you guys?" Zach tapped his fingers lightly on our table.

"Sure, why not?" Cee burst out and then chuckled.

Zach dragged a chair from an empty table and sat next to Cee, Lucas did the same and sat next to me.

"Hi, I'm Cee short for Cecelia and she's my best friend Kat." Cee spoke.

"Hello Kat." Zach said and extended his hand. I shook his hand lightly.

"I'm Zach and he's my brother Lucas." Zach introduced themselves again. "Can I get you ladies anything else?" Zach asked.

"No, we're almost done here." I replied.

"Do you guys live around here?" Cee asked.

"Hmm." Lucas agreed.

"So why did you guys transfer here in the middle of the semester?" Cee blurted without even giving it a second thought, she could have asked anything but she had to stick with that question, she was acting completely dumb.

"You're really not letting go off that question!" Zach chuckled.

"Well I had a heated argument with Sophie and then I almost received a warning from Coach, so I think I deserved to know now!" Cee spoke.

"Personal reasons." Lucas finally broke his silence.

All this time, he had been silent, last time I heard his voice was in class when he introduced himself. It seemed like Zach does all the talking and Lucas only spoke on occasions, when Zach couldn't find an appropriate reply.

" Do you play basketball?" Cee changed the topic.

"Yeah, sometimes." Zach answered and swept a hand through his hairs and some of his blond locks fell on his face.

"That's great, you can join the varsity team. I heard they were in search of some new players." Cee mentioned.

"Thank you, but we're focussing on the academics right now, because we're already lagging behind." Lucas replied.

"But we can definitely go for it later." Zach assured and I noticed Cee' face lit up.

It was getting quite obvious, Lucas was not enjoying our company, his replies were short and had a hint of hostility.

All this time while Zach and Cee chatted, I was noticing him. He was very tall, maybe the tallest guy I ever came across. He was leaned back in his chair with his arms folded and his legs were stretched under the table and it would be no surprise if they reached upto the other side of the table. I looked at him with the corner of my eye, so as not to raise his doubt that I was looking at him. A set of lean muscles were quite evident on his arms through his black sweatshirt. His hairs were swept back and were perfect contrast to his porcelain skin.

I noticed Zach had an outgoing, cheerful and a friendly personality. He can easily get along with anyone in just few minutes, like he did with Cee. But Lucas on the other side was quiet, discreet and mysterious like he had secrets he didn't want to reveal. I was intrigued by him in a strange way, like what must be going on in his head, what was he thinking right now. But the more I tried to figure out, the more clueless I became.

Though there were extreme differences between them, there was one huge similarity between Zach and Lucas. Both of them were divinely beautiful. They had a striking and awe inspiring beauty that can never fade in the background. Apparently, they were the most handsome guys I've ever seen.

"Kat... Kat!" Cee' voice drifted me out of my thoughts.

"Sorry...I just zoned out... What did you say?" I asked.

"Zach was suggesting that we should all hangout sometime?" Cee suggested.

"Sure." Although I didn't liked the idea, I still forced a smile on my face. I looked at my phone to check the time and pretended to be concerned.

"Sorry guys, we need to go, I have some work." I spoke as I raised from my seat.

Everyone knew I was lying but that was my only cue to get out of there. Cee gave me a disapproving look then finally got off her chair.

"See you guys at school." She spoke as we left.
