17 Chapter 15: The Song of a Lullaby

We are now near the lake where we need to get the Flute of Whispers. We are a bit exhausted so we came to a halt.

"Let's just rest for now. The sun is about to raise higher. Must be noon time." Traceler said and we stayed under a tree to eat and hydrate ourselves. This felt like a long journey even if it is just a bit far from the academy.

"Ughm... Can I be ahead of you guys? I just can't wash away this strange feeling that I need to go there really bad." Mye said, so we looked at each other and nodded in agreement.

"It's fine, as long as you don't get lost. And please be careful." I said and she nodded before taking her leave.

"She's weird~" Rose commented,  Guinevere agreed while Traceler and I have stayed quite. "Anyway, I am still wondering why we need to get these things, like... Why didn't they do it? Why us?" I know what she meant by that though. The professors are more experienced when it comes to this kind of things, so why ask us to get these?

"Well that questions will be answered once we return, so let us waste no more time and follow Mye. It's a bit dangerous for her to be alone in this forest." Traceler said and we nodded in agreement before readying ourselves up and taking our leave.

"I just hope that she's fine."

Oh? Hi there! My name is Melody Mye Shiratori and I am from Aithea Lake. If you don't know yet, we are a descendant of the Swan's. But we are not turning into one of them. Unless we die.

Anyway, I already went ahead of my team, because something is quite bothering me. I don't know why, but since we got closer and closer to the lake we were suppose to go. I felt strange, like... Something is calling me towards it. And because of my curiousity, I went ahead and followed my instinct.

As I approach the place where I think, is the right one. I couldn't help but feel a mixture of fear and excitement. And when I reached the place, I was more than surprised to see the whole place. It looked like a spring lake and everything around it is a bit dark than I thought. Although rays of sunlight emits from above, the place looked magical! The lake is so clear and beautiful, and the sorroundings... Full of plants, flowers and... I don't know how to describe it, I can't find the right words to say!

This is really unbelievable!

I heard someone sing, well more like whispering. But it has a tone or something like that. So I almost shouted in shock. Good thing I managed to cover my mouth.

"Leaving the dream~

Yours and mine~

Euphoria~"

"Who's there?" I called out. But I heard no one answering. That sent a shiver down my spine as I try to look around. "Guys is that you? Stop that! Ain't funny." I giggled nervously.

"Still, and silent~

Calm before the storm~

Gold, and diamond~

Jewels behind the throne~"

Now this really made me scared.

"Please show yourself! I-I'm not afraid of you! Don't be a coward and reveal yourself!" I said trying to sound brave, but the shaking of my voice tells the other way.

"Into the night~

Out of the dark~

Take to the sky~

Chasing the stars~"

With this lyrics, I felt calm and happy for some reason. But then my sorroundings started to move. The plants swayed silently and cool breeze of wind started to blow.

"What do I do? I need to figure out who or what's making this kind of sound." I thought to myself as I try to think of a way. "If only my friends are here~" I thought again and took a deep breath, then exhaled.

"All that we said~

Waiting to fly~

This is the start~"

After hearing the song again. Everything inside my mind went zoom! And then...

I remembered this now! This song! This melody! I've heard this before. My older sister used to sing this song for me when I was a kid! She always sings me this song as a lullaby!

"But why do I need to hear this song again? What does it mean?" Was the only thing I could ask inside my head.

Then, in a second, a sudden gush of wind blowed around me. It was so powerful that I need to compose myself and cover my face .

"Melody~ the answers to your questions are already within you.

No need to use any magics. It is you, who the answer is itself." That voice. I can't be mistaken.

"Sister?" I called out but the strong wind started to fade and everything went back to normal.

"What in the Aurora's Land-" I tried to call out for my sister again, but she was nowhere to be found.

"(sigh) Why would you even expect that, Mye. She died a long time ago remember?" I talked to myself and smiled while clenching my fists. But then I remembered what the voice told me earlier. "The answer is within me itself?" I recalled and came to a conclusion that... "Should I try to sing?" After what i've said, the wind made everything swayed like it was telling me the right thing to do. So I took a deep breath to ready myself up. And when I was sure to do it...

Grand and glorious~"

I sang the chorus part of the song, and after finishing it. My voice echoed and I saw how the lake started to glow. It somehow resembled a rainbow, but instead of being up, it was on the lake!

"Living the dream~

Euphoria~"

I continued the song and the glow became a powerful one and I also saw something levitating out of it. It's a long thing and when I finally got the glimpse, I...

"Is that the Flute of Whispers?" My eyes gleamed in joy as I saw it glowing along with the lake. So I walked towards the lake and looked intently at the flute.

It is so beautiful and all I know is that I am now reaching for it. "Please let me borrow this thing to save everyone~" I pleaded as I stretch my arms towards where the flute lies.

"Hide and seek~

It felt like a choir was singing the song, making me happy and smile.

"Living the dream~

Yours and mine~

Euphoria~"

I sang with the voice and the flute started to levitate towards me. And after a minute or two, it was in my hands. I was holding it. So I looked closely at it and I was surprised to see the carving at the end of the flute. A very familiar carving!

"Where have I seen this?" I thought and the lake was now back to its crystal clear color. But something caught my attention.

"The flute is yours now, Melody~

So use it to help the needed." It said and the face was none other than my sister. So I started to tear up for one reason.

"So that's why the lullaby was sung... It was you, sister." I said and let my tears fall. Almost all of them fell in the water. "The feeling I felt earlier was your presence trying to call me, am I wrong?" I smiled and kneeled while looking at the lake. "Thank you for helping me... For helping us." I said and embraced the flute. "I promise to help everyone, even if it costs me my own life!" I said and that was the only time when I heard my friends calling out to me.
