Prologue

"Sir, are you really going through with this?" A short man looked down at the files in his hand as he said to the man opposite him.

"Yes, Calc, I've made up my mind." The man opposite Calc said as he looked out the window towards a city's skyline in the distance.

"People are not going to like this."

"Change is hard to accept at first, they'll get used to it."

The short man seemed at a loss on how to continue. A moment later he asked, "Why?"

The taller man turned at this, he looked down at the man and sighed, "There are no evil powers, only evil people. The superpower you have should not be a clear indication of your character. We should not judge people by their powers but rather by the choices they make with it."

Seeing that he couldn't change his boss's mind, Calc said, "If your plan fails, or it turns out different than you hoped…"

"I'll bear the responsibility." The taller man responded with a firm tone, and then went back to his sky gazing.

Calc nodded then asked once more, "What about the other one?"

"…Who?" The taller man replied, cocking his head without turning back. He sounded puzzled.

"The thief. The one that…"

"Oh him, just add him in too. What difference could it make? The decision has already been made." The boss waved his hand nonchalantly.

"Alright" Calc replied succinctly. He turned around and left through the door.

Once alone, the taller man deflated. He lost all the confidence and boldness he previously showed. He walked to his desk and slunk down, holding his head with his hands. Taking a few deep breaths, he eventually calmed down. He reached down with his hands and picked up a picture; It was a picture of a much younger him, a blond lady and a little girl smiling wildly at the camera.

…Lily… he muttered.
