6 Chapter 6

8:00pm

'You are right.' Kassy speaks standing from her bedroom door. Jen looks up from where she was watching tv. Kassy walks to her. Jen looks at her confused.

'Why are you not dressed?' Normally this is the time kassy would yell goodnight and leave.

'I am not going tonight. Was hoping we could plan out the idea you had earlier.' Jen was very glad Kassy took it serious. And so they spent the entire night planning, calculating every penny. As they thought of it the plan seemed really nice and felt like they could gain a lot of interest from it so Kassy decided to invest some amount of money on it.

After a few days they officially started business. Jen cooked all day and sold at night up to midnight. Slept only for five hours. Kassy proceeded with her normal routines. The interest gained was good. Jen sold many and saved many. In this way they were able to pay the three month house rent completely. This progress encouraged them to do better and so they did. They invested more on it and proceeded with the work. They gained many customers.

One Saturday night, Jen was selling foods she prepared rappes up and Kassy was there, but not for long as one regular took her out. Kassy waves good night goes. Jen continued selling. As she made sure she sold enough and time was late she gathered her things and walked home. She heard footsteps following her. It was late and the streets were silent. Jen walks faster but the footsteps walked faster as well. She reached the apartment. She walks in. The footsteps walks in with. She was to scared to turn to see. Most of the light bulbs donot work up the stairs. She tries to come herself down. Her hands are shaking. She takes her key by the hand and opens the door but the footstep was behind her it pushed her in and joined her inside. It turns on the light. She turns to see. It was a man she saw once or twice around the street she sells food. He smiles at her.

'Don't scream. I won't hurt you.' Jen stares at him scared. She didnot know how to react.

'Listen close. You will give me all the money you have or I will give you pain.' Jen enters her hand into her pocket and gave him the money she made that night. He was waiting for more.

'Where do you collect your daily cash?' He asks

'In the bank.' He smiles and slaps her. She screams. He takes out a knife and points it on her chest. She cries. The slap he gave her took out her Jaw. And the knief he had pointed felt like it will takeout her heart. Jen thought. She thought of how things will turn out if she does give him the money and also if she does not.

He cuts of one button from her jacket. She panics. He cuts two.

'Stop. I will give it to you.' Jen gets up and walks to the kitchen her whole body was shaking. She raises her hand on top of the cabnet and pulls out a cookie jar. She opens it and gives it to him. He took it. And smiles again. His smile was very disturbing to Jen. His teeth were grosse, felt like he never brushed. The white tishirt he was wearing turned brown and his green jacket were unpleasing to the eyes. He was wearing a trouser above a trouser. And his shoe smelled. He put the money in the trouser that was under the trouser.

'Well thank you for your cooperation.' He smiles walking towards Jen. She walks back.

'He comes close to her and takes her hand. She feels disgusted. He blew something on her face.

A few hours later…..

'Jen, Jen. She is opening her eyes. Can you please call the doctor.' Jen hears Kassys voice. She opens her eyes.

'Where am I?' Jen blinks constantly to get clear vision.

'Hey you are ok.' Kassy speaks.

'You are in the hospital. But you are fine now.' Jen tries to move but she couldnot. Something hurts under her stomach as she tried.

'You should get some rest.' The doctor walks out after checking on her.

'Kassy what happened to me?'

Kassys eyes filled with tears, Jen knew that was a bad sign.

'Jen do you remember anything about yesterday?' Jen kept silent for a while

'A man. He was there. He took everything Kassy am so sorry. He was going to kill me so I gave him everything. Am so sorry.' Jen cries. Kassy comes her down.

'It is ok. Don't worry about that.' She continues 'What else do you remember?' Jen gazed trying to remember but her memory was blank.

'Nothing' Jen answers.

'What happened to me?' Jen asks

'Well...' Kassy takes a deep breath.

Kassy took a deep breath. As she was about to speak the doctor walks in to check up on her. Kassy backs away leaving room for the doctor to proceed her procedure.

'How are you feeling?' She asks with a smile on her face. She is a young doctor. She looks at Jen and opened her eyes wider with her hand to check her vision with the help of flash light.

'Look up.' Jen does as she demands. She places her flash light in her pocket and takes off the blanket Jen was wearing. She places her hands on her stomach and pushs down. Jen frowns her face with pain. The doctor looks at her. She changes position and pushes down, she checks Jens face. Still frowned.

'It will take a few days to heal but you will be fine.' The doctors assures and walks out. Jens face turns to Kassy. Kassy approaches her. She holds her right hand. She takes a deep breath.

'Jen you were raped by that man. But don't worry the police are now looking for him.' She looks at Jen waiting for her reaction. Jen bursts in tears. Kassy hugs her. Jen hugs her tight.

Thursday, April 7

'All set?' Jen asks.

'Yes. I called a taxi.' Jen spent three days in the hospital. She looks physically fine but mentally broken. Kassy pushed Jen out the hospital on a wheelchair and helped her get into the taxi. The nurse that was behind them, escorting them out takes the wheel chair as Jen steped out.

'Thank you.' Kassy smiled. As they started to go, Jen looks out the window. Felt like yesterday everything was going well and she was happy. But with a snap of a finger it is all gone. She smiles with faze.

'Welcome home.' Kassy opens the door of their apartment letting in Jen first. Jen walks in and paused. It was as if all memories were replayed before her eyes. She stared like she was watching what happened all over again. She hurts. Her tears droped down. Kassy gave her a moment. She closed the door behind her.

'You should rest. The police will be here any moment.' As kassy said those words the door knock. It was the police.

'Good day. We are here to speak with the victim.' They didnot waste a moment of their time as Kassy opened the door. She lets them in. Jen walks towards the sofa to sit.

'Could you please tell me exactly what happened?' One of the police that sat down infront of Jen asks. The other police choose to stand beside his friend. Jen takes a deep breath and told them everything.

'Have you seen him before that night?'

'No.' Jen answers.

'Can you give us the exact description of what the man looked like? This is my co-worker he will draw the description you give him so that we can easily Id him.' The police speaks pointing his finger towards the other police that was standing beside him. Jen was very impressed with what she heard. She was fascinated with how easily a suspect could be determined. She smiles with amuzement. Where she comes from if something happens to you it is better to take matters into your own hands because the police does you no good. Girls and women were raped and men were stolen from. Those people go to the police for justice but justice was nowhere to be found. This brought bloodshed among individuals leading to family grew to community. Division followed as one tribe hated the other and viseversa. If maybe justice was served. If maybe people changed for the better, maybe then things would have been different, Jen thinks of her families and life. She took a deep breath.

'He had brown beard. He smelled like fish.' The police that was standing who was also the one sketching the picture looked at her and smiled. She continues.

'He had black eyes with golden eyelid.' She closes her eyes to paint his face.

'O he had a scar on his chin. It was like a straight line.'

'What colour was his hair?' Jen thought hard but didnot seem to remember his hair as he was wearing a hat sort of thing.

'He was wearing a hat. I don't remember.' A moment of silence was filled. Jen and kassy looked at eachother. The police finally turned the paper and showed us to see to identify him. Jen was shocked to see that was the exact man that did all horrible things to her. She nodded continuously.

'Thats him.' Her tears drops. Kassy approaches her from where she was standing.

'Thank you.' The police men left.

'You want coffee?' Kassy asks. Jen picks up her head to look at her.

'What? I did learn a couple of things from you. Want to see.' She goes to the kitchen and pours her coffee.

'How long was the coffee in there?' Jen asks.

'Yesterday?!' Kassy answers looking at Jen.

'You were with me at the hospital the whole day and night.'

'I have powers.' Kassy smiles fighting not to lose the argument.

'It is that horrible coffee you made three days ago while I was sleeping. isn't it?' Kassy looks away.

'I don't know what you are talking about.' Jen smiles and walks towards her.

'What are you doing? The doctor said you need to rest.'

'I will. But first let me show you how to make good coffee.' Kassy smiles with excitement. Jen sits down on the kitchen counter.

'First thing you need is get the right amount of coffee beans.' Kassy turns and brings down the jar holding beans.

'How will I know the exact amount?'

'It will come through experience but for the two of us one hand full grab will be enough.' Kassy takes her hand and grab the beans by her palm. Jen slides the plate that was next to her. Kassy puts the beans on the plate.

'Now what?'

'Now you wash it. But when you do you have to mush up both your hand palms together to cause friction so the beans will shine.'

'Shine?' Kassy smiles with the words Jen used.

'Ya. It is advised to use lukewarm water. It will help clean the beans faster. But cold is also used.' Kassy tries to wash the coffee beans lime Jen said. Jen smiles admiring her effort.

'What is next?' Kassy asks draining the water off the beans.

'Roast it. Take that pan and roast the beans until they turn gold brown. Remember gold brown.' Jen gets up.

'Where are you going?'

'To the bathroom that is two walks away. Am fine don't worry. Roast the beans until I come back.' Jen to the bathroom.

As she was washing her hands she smelled the beans over roast. She walks out.
