2 Chapter 1: The Ceremony

Selena's Pov

Today is the annual Moonshine Ceremony. Me and my sister Karina and three other elven children were chosen to be part of the ritual. Me and my sister grew up in a family who devoted ourselves to the moon god and being chosen as a candidate makes those sacrifices worth it.

"I still can't believe that we are a part of this sacred ritual!" My sister Karina bleamed a smiled as I gazed into her blue eyes seeing the truest form of happiness. "I know! But it has to be one of us." My smile faded as I realized that the elders only choose one as a victorial gift to the moon god. My sisters smile soon fade too as she held my hands. "This may be our last moment together, but we are doing this for honor in our elven race." She smiles again gratifying my heart.

We arrived at the edge of the dark elven territory where the ritual takes place. A stage was set in the very edge. There are to be six corners on the stage and every stage has a podium in which an elder stands still. My heart was filled with anxiety as the place stays in utter silence. Me, my sister and the 3 other elven stood in the center of the stage.

Soon the elders started chanting certain words that slowly lit up the stage with a grimming green light.

Voices were heard beneath the cliff.

The voices sent chills down my spine. I looked into my sister who seems to be afraid too. We looked at each others eyes showing evidence on how terrified we are. I looked at the three other girls we are with, their faces pale, eyes streaming with tears, and shivering.

Soon a huge dark shadow emerged from the cliff. I soon felt a daunting gaze from a huge pair of red eyes.

"We shall begin the divination." The head of the elder said with his deep voice. Soon every elder stood down from their podium and every two elder stood and held one of us. Soon I felt cold hands from both my hands. I looked into my sister whose eyes were filled with terror.

Soon a smaller portion of the shadow went down with us on the stage en entered one of the girls.

The girl screamed in terror and pain. "GET IT OFF ME! GET IT OFF ME!" She cried hopelessly as the shadow went through on every corner of the girls body. Soon enough the shadow went out the body, leaving the body fall to the ground unconscious.

"This is not it." The shadow plainly said as he proceeded to go inside on the two other girls who also fell to the ground unconscious. When it was my sisters turn, my jaw clenched as I saw my sister fighting off the shadow.

"NO! GET OFF ME!" She screamed and screamed as finally the shadow went out of her. She didn't fall to the ground but was exhausted. The shadow looked at me and I saw it smirk before seeing nothing but darkness, the last thing I only heard was a scream from my sister. "NOOOOOOOOO!".
