1 A new beginning
I inhaled a deep breath and slowly let it go as I got out of the aeroplane. People were hurdling out of the plane after me but nothing bothered me right now.
I felt a sigh of relief but at the same time my heart was fluttering at the thought of living in a new city, new life, basically new everything. The feeling was euphoric and I wasn't able to wipe off the smile from my face.
"Hopefully, this will be a good start.", I thought to myself and I walked towards the airport.
Soon enough, I had exited the airport. After an hour, the wait for a taxi was finally over and all I had to worry was to get in the apartment and get settled.
"So from here, I have to go to left", I said as I checked my phone for direction to my new start.
It feels like just yesterday I graduated from university and now I am here all by myself ready to start a brand new life ahead, independently and peacefully but deep inside this excitement is balance with nervousness. Since my mom had always been extremely concerned about me, she had never let me ever be my myself. Instead, she took care of me and my sister on her own.
I've already started to miss them now.
Promptly, I heard my phone ring in my pocket. I looked at my phone to find my room mate calling.
"Hello", I said.
"Hey , Iris?", My room mate Joe said.
"Yup. Just few minutes and I will be knocking at your door.", I said with a huge grin.
"That's great but actually I'm not at home so you might be confused. Okay?", Joe said.
"Oh...Okay. How am I supposed to-", I then shortly get interrupted.
"Don't get confused on the location I sent you. The keys are under the doormat. I'm really sorry Iris. My boss didn't let me take a day off. He really sucks.",he said with a hint of anger in his voice.
"It's fine.I get it.", I said but one thing I didn't understand was they keys were under the doormat... like a goddamn doormat where anyone can steal it.
"Byee and thanks for understanding my situation.",he said .
"Okay , I understand. Bye. I don't wanna keep you hanging more.",I said and hung up the call. Great so, I was talking about being independent and here we are.
After about fifteen minutes, I found a huge apartment with "Rio Homes" written in big bold letters. I again checked my phone for the hundredth time just to make sure that this was the Rio Homes which she was talking about.
"Rio Homes. Floor 20. Room no 96. Okay now I won't check my phone.", saying that I kept my phone in my pocket and headed towards the apartment.
Three bags, one person, twentieth floor and the elevator is NOT FUCKING WORKING. Yeah, that's my beautiful luck like always. Literally, I've never felt like jumping out of the window of first floor and dying like now.
Okay, let's calm down Iris. We can do this.
Huffing and puffing for hours , I finally got on twentieth floor with all the three bags all alone. I really have this gut feeling that I can be a bodybuilder in future seeing what I just did right now.I placed the bags down and looked around. I didn't find a single soul on my way, like is this place abandoned or something-
Just as I thought that I heard footsteps approaching my direction. I slowly lifted my head to see a guy with blue t-shirt and black pants coming towards my direction. Right now, I was just too tired to notice his facial features.
"You need some help?", He asked and his honey colored eyes met mine. Suddenly I was not tired anymore. I couldn't help but notice his symmetrical face and those honey colored eyes. For a while, I forgot what is language.
He slowly raised his eyebrows and said," Want a hand?"
"Oh..", I snapped out of it and gained my composure ,"No, thank you. I'm fine", I said giving a quick smile and got back to picking up my bags.
"You don't look like you can handle that by yourself though.", He said raising his left eyebrow and scanning my bags.
"Yeah it was difficult specially when the lift wasn't working but I can manage it.", I replied with a smile.
"Suit yourself then. By the way I'm Jacob.", he said with a smile, bringing his hand for a handshake. His smile is even more handsome.
Get back to your goddamn senses Iris.
"Iris Cassidy", I said shaking hands with him with a smile.
"Are you moving in this floor?", He said.
"Yeah.",I said.
"Then I guess I'll see you around.",he replied with a sweet smile ," I guess I gotta depart for now."
Wow okay that was umm formal?
Nevertheless, I smiled and nodded while he walked away.
I smiled to myself and picked up my bags and walked to my new home. I found the keys exactly under the doormat. Thank god there are other dumb people around here.
I entered the apartment and promptly a smile painted on my face. The rooms were really spacious unlike what I had imagined. I could see the busy street on one side of the living room which was attached with the kitchen. Then there were two more rooms one for me and another for Joe and finally a bathroom. And right now I just needed a good bath to calm down my worked up body.
I placed all my bags in my room. I noticed a small bed close to the huge window, as soon as I entered the room. The room was pretty empty except for the bed and my bags.
I sighed and plopped on the soft mattress of the bed. God I can't just stay like this... I got a lot of work to do. I stood up and headed straight to the bathroom.
Slowly, I got rid of all my clothes and let the cold beads of water hit my skin. My sore body steadily calmed down. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. So, now I gotta make the best of this new start and I know I can.
After taking an hour long shower, I turned off the showers. I wrapped a towel around my body and got out.
"Aahhhh!!!", I screamed and terror spread throughout my body when I saw someone entering the apartment.
Since it had started raining and the lights were off. The room was pretty dim to figure out anything but all I could see was a tall and built figure enter the apartment.
My body was close to paralyzing but I held myself up. I scanned seeing if there was anything I could use as a weapon. I found a sharp pencil lying on the small table on my right and let's just give it to my beautiful luck. I quickly grabbed it and got ready to attack.
As I was backing away to go in my room and shut the door, I pushed a small chair which made a little squeak.
His head turned towards me and he opened the lights.
Can my day go any worse?
I pointed the pencil towards him and glared at him,"Who the hell are you?!and What the fuck are you doing here?!!"
He looked at me with his brows lifted but then his eyes looked at me from the bottom to top. My cheeks eventually got flustered from embarrassment.
"My face is up here, you asshole!", I retorted, sending him the iciest glare I've ever had," Talk to my face!"
His lips shifted to a smirk as I said that,"But I don't wanna talk to your face."
Wha...
Did he just...?
"I asked what are you doing here?! ", I shouted, hoping somebody would notice out of the room.
"Oops! You found me, my bad. I was planning to rob all this place but after seeing you...", he paused and scanned me from top to down again,"..Wrapped in a towel , I think I've changed my mind.",he gave a flirty smile as he said that.
I can fry an egg on my cheeks at this point. There is a point to make someone mad and embarrassed at the same time.
"I swear I will kill you if you try anything.",I said pointing the pencil at him.
"Oh. Iris!!!", I heard a familiar voice. Tilting my head I saw Joe.
"Call the cops! Fast!", I shouted, still in my defense position.
"But why?",he said a little confused with what was going on.
"To catch this intruder standing in front of you!!", I said desperately.
Joe burst into laughter and was joined by the intruder soon. I just stood there dumbfounded.
"I'm sorry Iris but you gotta calm down Iris. And put the pencil down", he said calmly approaching me,"He's actually my friend."
I froze .Did I just make a complete fool out of myself in front of my room mate's friend? But he didn't tell me about him. Wait... What the hell is going on?... My head could now not process anything . Everything slowly and slowly got blurry .
"Huh?",That's the last thing I said before I passed out.
